A new calibration algorithm for multi-camera systems using the 1D calibration objects is proposed. The algorithm integrates the rank-4 factorization with Zhangpsilas method. The intrinsic parameters as well as the extrinsic parameters are recovered only by capturing with cameras the 1D objectpsilas rotations around a fixed point. The algorithm is based on factorization of the scaled measurement matrix, the projective depths of which is estimated in an analytic equation instead of a recursive form. For the conditions that there are more than 3 points on the 1D object, our algorithm may solve them by extending the scaled measurement matrix. The obtained parameters are finally refined through the maximum likelihood inference. The validity of the proposed technique was verified through simulation and experiments with real images.

In this paper, a set of shape features which was based on the special characteristics of Chinese signatures was proposed for off-line Chinese signature verification. Another set of high-pressure features was also developed to extract timing and dynamic information indirectly from the signature image. A database of 100 genuine signatures and 50 simple forgeries was used to investigate the effectiveness of these two sets. Though shape features and high-pressure features had an error rate of 6.5% and 20.0% respectively, the collective use of these two sets reduced the error rate of simple forgery verification to 2.5%. It was concluded that combined use of static and dynamic information is an effective way for off-line Chinese signature verification.

In this paper, we investigate how camera pose can be estimated from 2D to 3D corner correspondence when vertex of the corner is occluded. We show that the image coordinate of the occluded vertex can be easily estimated from the image edge lines by an analytical method. Then the camera pose parameters can be recovered from 2D to 3D correspondences of the corner and a nonsingular point on it over a single view. A ground truth comparison is made by experiments using controlled scenes, which shows that the method is promising.

Gait is thought to be the most effective feature for human recognition in the distance. For optimal performance, the feature should include as many different types of information as possible, so in this paper, we present an integrated feature, which integrates motion feature and shape feature based on the Bayesian theory. For motion feature, we use shape variation-based frieze pattern (SVB frieze pattern) as the basis, since it can solve the ball or backpack problems very well, then we match the SVB frieze pattern feature by dynamic time warping (DTW). For shape feature, we use gait energy image (GEI) as the basis, since it is less sensitive to the silhouette noise, then we extract further information by histograms of oriented gradients (HOG) and do the dimensionality reduction by coupled subspaces analysis (CSA) and discriminant analysis with tensor representation (DATER). The proposed approach is tested on the CMU MoBo gait database. The result shows that the proposed approach is an efficient way in increasing the accuracy.

Due to ear's complex structure, particular position, and preferable stability, ear biometrics has attracted increasingly attention recently. In this paper, we present a new multi-view based ear feature extraction strategy. We utilize not only front view ear image but backside view ear image to extract 2D ear shape four kinds of rich features for ear recognition. In addition, we utilize multi-view ear images to reconstruct 3D ear shape, and a neural network 3D ear registration method is introduced also. Experimental results and comparison analysis show our multi-view based strategy will be a promising approach for ear biometrics.

This paper proposes a new image quality evaluation approach based on decision fusion method of canonical correlation analysis (CCA). By exploring several diverse visual models, we constructed a comprehensive quality metric which can deal with complicated image distortion problem with increasing accuracy and robustness. Validation by comparing the proposed metric against other image quality metrics (IQMs) demonstrates that its fidelity prediction performs better across wide distortion range and types.

In this paper, we present a new algorithm for camera calibration using concentric circles, which is a linear approach. Different from previous methods, we take the projective equations of three-dimensional circles, which include the intrinsic parameter matrix of the camera, as the basis of our calibration approach. According to the special structure of the projective equations in algebra, we can get a linear equation system about the intrinsic parameters. After enough equations constructed, the calibration can be easily finished. Our method needs three images of the two concentric circles at least, and all the five intrinsic parameters can be recovered. Experiments using computer simulated data demonstrate the robustness and accuracy of our method.

In this paper, a pixel-level image fusion algorithm based on Nonsubsampled Contourlet Transform (NSCT) has been proposed. Compared with Contourlet Transform, NSCT is redundant, shift-invariant and more suitable for image fusion. Each image from different sensors could be decomposed into a low frequency image and a series of high frequency images of different directions by multi-sacle NSCT. For low and high frequency images, they are fused based on local-contrast enhancement and definition respectively. Finally, fused image is reconstructed from low and high frequency fused images. Experiment demonstrates that NSCT could preserve edge significantly and the fusion rule based on region segmentation performances well in local-contrast enhancement.
