A novel approach of pose estimation is proposed for the object with surface of revolution(SOR). The silhouette of the object is the only information necessary for this method and no cross section circle (latitude circle) is needed. In this article, we explain the property of tangent circle and use it to establish constraint between two images of object with different poses. Such constraint can help to solve the pose of object in both images. We test our method with a simulation experiment and use it to estimate the pose for both rigid body and articulated object.

In this paper, we present a novel age estimation method that is able to deal with varying face expressions. We construct two efficient descriptors for face appearance which are robust to expression variations. One is termed as Proportion Descriptor constructed by proportion indices based on facial geometric features, the other is termed as Local Descriptor based on local facial texture features extracted by Modular Principle Component Analysis (MPCA). We set up experiments for evaluating the performance of the two facial descriptors in the presence of facial expressions.

A novel evolutionary route planner for aircraft is proposed in this paper. In the new planner, individual candidates are evaluated with respect to the workspace, thus the computation of the configuration space is not required. By using problem-specific chromosome structure and genetic operators, the routes are generated in real time, with different mission constraints such as minimum route leg length and flying altitude, maximum turning angle, maximum climbing/diving angle and route distance constraint taken into account.

This work presents a face detection method based on kernel Fisher discriminant analysis (KFD). Kernel based methods have been extensively investigated both in theories and applications, such as SVM and kernel PCA. Using the kernel trick, linear Fisher discriminant can be extended to non-linear case. Since the distribution of face patterns is very complex and highly nonlinear, using non-linear classification tools can hopefully tackle the problem of face detection. We explore the application of KFD in the task of frontal face detection. The experimental results prove the effectiveness of KFD in the face detection problem.

We address the issue of markless human motion capture by voxel labeling. We explore the problem of pose estimation from voxel cloud based on a predefined human model. First, voxels are labeled into different individual parts of the body. Then, the joints are extracted from labeled voxels. Finally, the joint angles are estimated from the joints. Tested on the voxel data in our experiments, our algorithm is insensitive to noise and achieve fine accuracy in pose estimation.

By introducing the velocity difference between the preceding car and the car before the preceding one into the optimal velocity model (OVM), we present an extended dynamical model which takes into account the next-nearest-neighbor interaction. The stability condition of this model is derived by considering a small perturbation around the uniform flow solution with finding that traffic congestion is suppressed efficiently by incorporating the effect of new consideration. Then we investigate the property of the model using numerical methods. The results indicate that the next-nearest-neighbor interaction has important impacts on the coexisting flow, the relation between flow and density, and the propagation speed of small disturbance (PSSD). In addition, we have a try to further enhance the stability of traffic flow by introducing the relative velocity of an arbitrary number of cars in front, but the analysis of linear stability shows it is poor for our purpose

The scheme presented here finds the boundary of moving front scene by subtracting the image by the background saving in *** the boundary at hand,a new kind of motion compensation algorithm called region matching algorithm is used to improve motion compensation *** based on the boundary information,an interframe interpolation method for reconstruction image omitted by subsampling in time domain is developed. Computer simulation showed that no conspicuous noise is observed at the bit rate about 64Kbit/s.
