Cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) has become a mainstream technology for solving spatial structures of biomacromolecules, while the processing of cryo-EM images is a very challenging task. One of the great challenges is the high noise in the images. A common method is to cluster the images with close projecting angles to get mean images, which are used for 3D reconstruction. However, due to the extremely low signal-to-noise-ratio, common clustering methods often fail to obtain high-quality mean images, leading to poorly reconstructed structures. In this study, we present a new unsupervised learning framework, called NiuEM, to discriminate images captured from different angles and yield cluster-mean images. NiuEM first generates pseudo-labels and then exploits both contrastive loss and cross-entropy loss for training convolutional layers to learn feature representations. Moreover, the pseudo-labels are updated iteratively to enhance the reliability of labels. We assess the performance of NiuEM on four data sets via both visualized and quantitative experiments. Especially, two kinds of metrics are adopted to measure the performance, regarding the clustering quality and the resolution of reconstructed 3D models, respectively. The experimental results show that NiuEM achieves very competitive clustering accuracy in the comparison with the state-of-the-art image clustering methods. Moreover, the cluster mean images yielded by NiuEM lead to better initial 3D models compared with the mainstream reconstruction tools.

Gait planning of quadruped robots plays an important role in achieving less walking, including dynamic and static gait. In this article, a static and dynamic gait control method based on center of gravity stability margin is proposed. Firstly, the robot model and kinematics modeling are introduced. Secondly, the robot’s foot static and dynamic gait were planned and the foot trajectory was designed. Finally, two types of gait of the robot were simulated using Vrep simulation software, and the differences in stability and speed between the coordinated gait with speed and stability in the static and dynamic gait of a 12 degree of freedom robot were analyzed, verifying the effectiveness of the gait control method proposed in this paper.

Target detection and location in infrared clutter background is very important to infrared search and track system. Especially for small target detection in infrared image in background of sea and sky, there are no geometric and structure character to use. When targets such as ship and naval vessel sailing at long distance, they always appear around the sea-level line, and it is mixed with cloud and sea-wave clutter. It is difficult to segment and locate precisely. Background suppression based-on wavelet transformation is proposed in the paper. Wavelet decomposition makes it possible to analyze a signal both in time and frequency domains. In the paper infrared sea and key background images are processed. For their SNR is low and background is complex, using wavelet transformation decomposes an original image and extract approximate feature to reconstruct an image, which mainly includes background information. A new image would be obtained using background image subtracted from original image. There are mainly target and noise points left in the new image. By setting proper threshold, the target can be detected perfectly. At last, experiment results are given and show the method is practical.

Combining the mutual information theory and the sequential hypothesis testing(SHT)method,a selfadapting radio frequency(RF)stealth signal design method is proposed. The channel information is gained through the radar echo and feeds back to the radar system,and then the radar system adaptively designs the transmission waveform. So the close-loop system is formed. The correlations between these transmission waveforms are decreased because of the adaptive change of these transmission waveforms,and the number of illuminations is reduced for adopting the SHT,which lowers the transmission power of the radar system. The radar system using the new method possesses the RF stealth performance. Aiming at the application of radar automatic target recognition(RATR),experimental simulations show the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed method.

Matching confidence is an important element for evaluating image matching quality. A method is presented which uses the technique of tests of hypotheses to determine image matching confidence under a certain testing level. The authors use similarity measurement values to be the statistics. Experimental results with large real images prove the effectiveness of the method to determine image matching confidence.

Learn What You Need in Personalized Federated Learning

Personalized federated learning aims to address data heterogeneity across local clients in federated learning. However, current methods blindly incorporate either full model parameters or predefined partial parameters in personalized federated learning. They fail to customize the collaboration manner according to each local client's data characteristics, causing unpleasant aggregation results. To address this essential issue, we propose Learn2pFed, a novel algorithm-unrolling-based personalized federated learning framework, enabling each client to adaptively select which part of its local model parameters should participate in collaborative training. The key novelty of the proposed Learn2pFed is to optimize each local model parameter's degree of participant in collaboration as learnable parameters via algorithm unrolling methods. This approach brings two benefits: 1) mathmatically determining the participation degree of local model parameters in the federated collaboration, and 2) obtaining more stable and improved solutions. Extensive experiments on various tasks, including regression, forecasting, and image classification, demonstrate that Learn2pFed significantly outperforms previous personalized federated learning methods. In radiation therapy, obtaining accurate boundary of the clinical target volume (CTV) is the vital step to decrease the risk of treatment failures. However, it is a time-consuming and laborious task to obtain the delineation by hand. Therefore, an automatic algorithm is urgently needed to realize accurate segmentation. In this paper, we propose an enhanced coarse-to-fine frameworkto automatically fuse the information of CT, T1 and T2 images to get the target region. This framework includes a coarse-segmentation stage to identify the region of interest (ROI) of targets and a fine-segmentation stage to iteratively refine the segmentation. In the coarse-segmentation stage, the F-loss is proposed to keep the high recall rate of the ROI. In the fine segmentation, the ROI of target will be first cropped according to the ROI obtained by coarse-segmentation and be fed into a 3D-Unet to get the initial results. Then, the prediction and medium features will be set as additional information for the next one network to refine the results. When evaluated on the validation dataset of challenge of Anatomical Brain Barriers to Cancer Spread (ABCs), our method won the 3th place in the public leaderboard. © 2021, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

In this paper,the Locality-constrained Linear Coding(LLC) algorithm is incorporated into the object tracking ***,we extract local patches within a candidate and then utilize the LLC algorithm to encode these *** on these codes,we exploit pyramid max pooling strategy to generate a richer feature *** feature histogram which integrates holistic and part-based features can be more discriminative and ***,an occlusion handling strategy is utilized to make our tracker more ***,an efficient graph-based manifold ranking algorithm is exploited to capture the relevance between target templates and *** tracking,target templates are taken as labeled nodes while target candidates are taken as unlabeled nodes,and the goal of tracking is to search for the candidate that is the most relevant to existing labeled nodes by manifold ranking *** on challenging video sequences have demonstrated the superior accuracy and robustness of the proposed method in comparison to other state-of-the-art baselines.

Stroke and heart attack, which could be led by a kind of cerebrovascular and cardiovascular disease named asatherosclerosis, would seriously cause human morbidity and mortality. And the carotid artery of intima-media thickness (IMT) is a key indicator to the disease. With the development of computer assisted diagnosis (CAD) technology, Ultrasound imaging, being real-time, economic, reliable, safe, and now seems to become a standard in vascular assessment methodology especially for the measurement of IMT. This review is an attempt to discuss the clinical relevance of measurements in clinical practice at first, and then followed by the challenges that one has to face when approaching the segmentation of ultrasound images. Secondly, the paper is presentation of common used methods for the IMT segmentation and measurement. An overview of summary and future perspectives is given in conclusion finally.

In clinical practice, digital subtraction angiography (DSA) is a powerful technique for the visualization of blood vessels in X-ray image sequences. Different with traditional DSA image registration processes, in our proposed image registration method, the control points are selected from the vessel centerlines using multiscale Gabor filters, and mutual information (MI) is then taken as the similarity criterion to find the correspondences. Experimental results demonstrate our algorithm efficiently yields satisfying registration result for DSA images.
