Two years after the first edition, a new Fingerprint Verification Competition (FVC2002) was organized by the authors, with the aim of determining the state-of-the-art in this challenging patternrecognition application. The experience and the feedback received from FVC2000 allowed the authors to improve the organization of FVC2002 and to capture the attention of a significantly higher number of academic and commercial organizations (33 algorithms were submitted). This paper discusses the FVC2002 database, the test protocol and the main differences between FVC2000 and FVC2002. The algorithm performance evaluation will be presented at the 16/sup th/ ICPR.

Endobronchial intervention is increasingly used as a minimally invasive means for the treatment of pulmonary diseases. In order to reduce the difficulty of manipulation in complex airway networks, robust lumen detection is essential for intraoperative guidance. However, these methods are sensitive to visual artifacts which are inevitable during the surgery. In this work, a cross domain feature interaction (CDFI) network is proposed to extract the structural features of lumens, as well as to provide artifact cues to characterize the visual features. To effectively extract the structural and artifact features, the Quadruple Feature Constraints (QFC) module is designed to constrain the intrinsic connections of samples with various imaging-quality. Furthermore, we design a Guided Feature Fusion (GFF) module to supervise the model for adaptive feature fusion based on different types of artifacts. Results show that the features extracted by the proposed method can preserve the structural information of lumen in the presence of large visual variations, bringing much-improved lumen detection accuracy.

When applying formal majority voter in TMR (triple modular redundancy) fault tolerance system with two error injections, there is a problem that formal majority voter has a low rate of output. To solve this problem, we propose a modified majority voting model with special rules. In the situation of error injection, test result shows that compared with formal majority voter, modified majority voter has a higher rate of correct decision and a lower ratio of benign signals.

A quick 3D needle segmentation algorithm for 3D US data is described in this paper. The algorithm includes the 3D quick randomized Hough transform (3DGHT), which is based on the 3D randomized Hough transform and coarse-fine searching strategy. We tested it with water phantom. The results show that our algorithm works well in 3D US images with angular deviation less than 1 degree and position deviation less than 1 mm, and the computational time of segmentation with 35 MB data is within 1s.

In order to solve the problem of image degradation caused by dust environments, an image degradation model considering multiple scattering factors caused by dust was first established using the first-order multiple scattering method. Then, a dark channel prior principle was applied to present an image restoration algorithm based on the image degradation model. Finally, a particle swarm optimization algorithm was applied to optimize the atmospheric light and the exposure parameters. This optimization algorithm was established according to the criterion of the image evaluation based on kirsch operator with dual threshold. By using the method an optimistic result of image restoration was obtained. The experimental results have shown that the method not only enhanced luminance and contrast, but also discovered more detail edges information. The method provided a foundation for target recognition in the dust environments.

The technologies of intra prediction and MBAFF were introduced, and a new intra prediction mode based on the characteristics of spatial distribution in interlaced video was proposed. The spatial correlation of five luma intra prediction modes in AVS-P2 and the new mode were analyzed. From the analysis result, it can be concluded that the new mode can exploit the spatial correlation better and predict the samples more precisely than the existed ones. The experimental results showed that the average gain in peak signal to noise ratio was above 0.12dB and the average reduction in bit-rate was above 1.77%, so the proposed mode is an effective prediction mode for improvement of coding performance.
