Oracle character is one kind of the earliest hieroglyphics, which can be dated back to Shang Dynasty in China. Oracle character recognition is important for modern archaeology, ancient text understanding, and historical chronology, etc. To overcome the limitation and class imbalance of training data in oracle character recognition, we propose a classification method based on deep metric learning. We use a convolutional neural network (CNN) to map the character images to an Euclidean space where the distance between different samples can measure their similarities such that classification can be performed by the Nearest Neighbor (NN) rule. Because new categories are still being discovered in reality, our model enables the rejection of unseen categories and the configuration of new categories. To accelerate NN classification, we also propose a prototype pruning method with little loss of accuracy. The proposed method exceeds the state of the art on the public dataset Oracle-20K and outperforms CNN with softmax layer on a new dataset Oracle-AYNU. © 2019 IEEE.

Driver's physical and mental states are very important factors affecting the driving states. Traffic accidents are occurred by accompanying abnormal physiological parameters. So how to monitor automatically driver's physiological parameters is an important problem. A real-time driver's physiological parameters monitoring method based on microarray camera is proposed in this paper. Firstly, we use a microarray camera to acquire videos in real time without contact. Secondly, the videos are registered and fused into a high quality video. Thirdly, deep learning framework is used to capture driver's facial data quickly. Then based on the principle of imaging photoplethysmography (IPPG) algorithm, physiological parameters such as heart rate (HR) and oxygen saturation (SpO 2 ) are monitored in real time. Results of expression analysis can further support the physiological parameters monitoring results. The experimental results show that the method proposed in this paper can monitor the physiological parameters of drivers in real time and accurately, and it is hopeful to play an active role in improving traffic safety.

In this paper, a novel method of fingerprint minutiae extraction on grey-scale images is proposed based on the Gabor phase field. The novelty of our approach is that the proposed algorithm is performed on the transform domain, i.e. the Gabor phase field of the fingerprint image. This is different from most existing minutiae extraction methods, in which the minutiae are usually extracted from the binarized and thinned fingerprint image. Experimental results on benchmark data sets demonstrate that the proposed algorithm has promising performances.

PILAE: A non-gradient descent learning scheme for deep feedforward neural networks

In this work, a non-gradient descent learning (NGDL) scheme was proposed for deep feedforward neural networks (DNN). It is known that an autoencoder can be used as the building blocks of the multi-layer perceptron (MLP) DNN, the MLP is taken as an example to illustrate the proposed scheme of pseudoinverse learning algorithm for autoencoder (PILAE) in this paper. The PILAE with low rank approximation is a NGDL algorithm, and the encoder weight matrix is set to be the low rank approximation of the pseudoinverse of the input matrix, while the decoder weight matrix is calculated by the pseudoinverse learning algorithm. It is worth to note that only very few network structure hyper-parameters need to be tuned compared with classical gradient descent learning algorithm. Hence, the proposed algorithm could be regarded as a quasi-automated training algorithm which could be utilized in automated machine learning field. The experimental results show that the proposed learning scheme for DNN could achieve better performance on considering the tradeoff between training efficiency and classification accuracy. In Epilepsy EEG signal classification, the main time-frequency features can be extracted by using sparse representation with marching pursuit (MP) algorithm. However, the computational burden is so heavy that it is almost impossible to apply MP to real time signal processing. To reduce complexity of sparse representation, we propose to adopt harmony search method in searching the best atoms. Because harmony search method can find the best atoms in continuous time-frequency dictionary, the performance of epilepsy EEG signal classification is enhanced. The validity of this method is proved by experimental results.

A classifier-based method to select and fuse grey level co-occurrence matrix (GLCM), Gaussian Markov random field (GMRF) and discrete wavelet transform (DWT) features to improve texture discrimination is presented. Feature selection via wrapper approaches is applied to find the optimal combination of texture features. The fused features have obtained higher discrimination accuracy compared with individual features. The curse of dimensionality is shown to affect discrimination accuracy, and feature selection and reduction helps obtain higher accuracy. Overall our proposed classifier-based method obtains the highest discrimination accuracy compared to other feature reduction methods such as principal component analysis (PCA) and linear discriminant analysis (LDA). Meanwhile GLCM features are found to produce higher discrimination accuracy than GMRF and DWT, and LDA is demonstrated to obtain higher discrimination accuracy than PCA.

Video object (VO) is an important concept in MPEG-4. For objects can be easily manipulated without visible distortion, the copyright protection of video objects becomes an important issue. This paper presents a watermarking scheme for video objects. Different from other methods, the proposed scheme employed inertia ellipse to achieve fast synchronization recovery in case the object was manipulated. Shape adaptive DCT and visual mask were combined to embed the watermark into the arbitrarily shaped object, which was designed to achieve the trade-off between the invisibility and the robustness. Experiments show that our algorithm is robust to object manipulations such as rotations, translations, scaling and lossy compression. Our scheme can be easily incorporated into the object-based coding framework of MPEG-4.

When applying formal majority voter in TMR (triple modular redundancy) fault tolerance system with two error injections, there is a problem that formal majority voter has a low rate of output. To solve this problem, we propose a modified majority voting model with special rules. In the situation of error injection, test result shows that compared with formal majority voter, modified majority voter has a higher rate of correct decision and a lower ratio of benign signals.

Due to the similarity in mushroom features and the difficulty in distinguishing between poisonous and nonpoisonous varieties, mushrooms pose a threat to human health. To address the challenge of mushroom classification and identification, this paper proposes a mushroom classification method based on residual networks. Firstly, a network architecture with multiple residual blocks is designed, and it is trained using an image dataset. Then, a transfer learning strategy is employed to initialize the network parameters from a pre-trained model, followed by fine-tuning to adapt to the mushroom classification task. Finally, multiple testing experiments are conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed method. The experimental results demonstrate excellent performance of the proposed method in mushroom classification tasks. Compared to traditional feature extraction methods, it can better capture the details and texture features of mushrooms, thereby improving classification accuracy. In conclusion, the mushroom classification method based on residual networks exhibits high accuracy and generalization capability. This method has potential applications in the field of mushroom classification, aiding in the better identification and differentiation of poisonous mushrooms, thereby protecting human health.

Gait planning of quadruped robots plays an important role in achieving less walking, including dynamic and static gait. In this article, a static and dynamic gait control method based on center of gravity stability margin is proposed. Firstly, the robot model and kinematics modeling are introduced. Secondly, the robot’s foot static and dynamic gait were planned and the foot trajectory was designed. Finally, two types of gait of the robot were simulated using Vrep simulation software, and the differences in stability and speed between the coordinated gait with speed and stability in the static and dynamic gait of a 12 degree of freedom robot were analyzed, verifying the effectiveness of the gait control method proposed in this paper.
