In statistical machine translation (SMT) research, phrase-based methods have been receiving more interest in recent years. In this paper, we first give a brief survey of phrase-based SMT framework, and then make detailed comparisons of two typical implementations: alignment template approach and standard phrase-based approach. At last, we propose an improved model to integrate alignment template into standard phrase-based SMT as a new feature in a log-linear model. Experimental results show that our method outperforms the baseline method.

In this paper, we present the electro-optical characteristics of EL devices made by SVA. A Sawyer-Tower circuit has been set up to evaluate the luminous efficiency based on the measurements of luminance and transferred charge of the EL device. A program is developed to plot the luminance and efficiency as a function of voltage from the input of measurement data. These plots are useful for evaluating the performance of the EL devices and providing feedback for the optimization of thin film structure and processing parameters. When the modulation voltage is 30 V, it is shown that the luminance and efficiency of the yellow (ZnS: Mn) EL device is L30 =250 cd/m2 and η30 = 1.3 lm/W, respectively. Furthermore , the color spectra and the CIE color coordinates of various EL samples (green and blue) developed by SVA are evaluated and discussed.

In the Electroluminescent display panels, the largest portion of power consumption of data driver circuits comes from charging and discharging quite large capacitive loads, data lines. The proposed multi-steps data driving method can reduce the panel AC power consumption into only a few percent of that of conventional ones if the number of steps is large enough. In the proposed driving method, external capacitors supply charge to loads in multi-steps manner, and the charge returns to the capacitors instead of being discharged to ground. This charge recycling is the basis of reduction of the panel AC power. In this paper, the author gives a hardware implementation of 4-steps voltage generator with a minimum complexity.

We formulate single-image multi-label segmentation into regions coherent in texture and color as a MAX-SUM problem for which efficient linear programming based solvers have recently appeared. By handling more than two labels, we go beyond widespread binary segmentation methods, e.g., MIN-CUT or normalized cut based approaches. We show that the MAX-SUM solver is a very powerful tool for obtaining the MAP estimate of a Markov random field (MRF). We build the MRF on superpixels to speed up the segmentation while preserving color and texture. We propose new quality functions for setting the MRF, exploiting priors from small representative image seeds, provided either manually or automatically. We show that the proposed automatic segmentation method outperforms previous techniques in terms of the global consistency error evaluated on the Berkeley segmentation database.

This paper presents a flexible and effective example- based approach for labeling title pages which can be used for automated extraction of bibliographic data. The labels of interest are "title", "author", "abstract" and "affiliation". The method takes a set of labeled document layouts and a single unlabeled document layout as input and finds the best matching layout in the set. The labels of this layout are used to label the new layout. The similarity measure for layouts combines structural layout similarity and textural similarity on the block-level. Experimental results yield accuracy rates from 94.8% to 99.6% obtained on the publicly available MARG dataset. This shows that our lightweight method has equivalent and partially better performance when compared to other more complex labeling methods known from the literature.

The tongue is a unique organ in that it can be stuck out of mouth for inspection, in this act offering a proof of life, and yet it is otherwise well protected in the mouth and is difficult to forge. The tongue also presents both geometric shape information and physiological texture information which are potentially useful in identity verification applications. Furthermore, the act of physically reaching or thrusting out is a convincing proof for the liveness. Despite these obvious advantages, little work has hitherto been done on tongue features. A primary factor for preventing such research is the lack of an available 3D tongue image database. In this paper, we present a newly developed 3D tongue image database, which includes both tongue geometric shape and surface textures of 134 subjects. This is the first attempt at making a 3D tongue image database available for the research community, with the ultimate goal of fostering the research on tongue biometrics. The new database can be a valuable resource for algorithm assessment, comparison and evaluation.

This paper continues the authors' attempt to address the need for objective comparative evaluation of layout analysis methods in realistic circumstances. It describes the Page Segmentation Competition (modus operandi, dataset and evaluation criteria) held in the context of ICDAR2007 and presents the results of the evaluation of three candidate methods. The main objective of the competition was to compare the performance of such methods using scanned documents from commonly-occurring publications. The results indicate that although methods continue to mature, there is still a considerable need to develop robust methods that deal with everyday documents.
