In RFID application systems with multiple packaging layers, labeling packaging relationship of objects in different packaging layers by encoding methods is a important technology field. Prefix-based labeling scheme is a method by which the packaging relationship of objects amounts to testing whether one object is an prefix of the other, whereas the region numbering scheme is a method by which an ancestor query amount to an interval containment test on the labels. This paper first presents a mixed-encoding scheme based on Huffman algorithm, then propose a variant of this encoding scheme in which new "virtual nodes" are involved in order to improve the stability of encoding. Our experiments prove that the mixed-based encoding scheme is effective due to the enhancement of update performance and query efficiency.

Learning to transfer graph embeddings for inductive graph based recommendation

With the increasing availability of videos, how to edit them and present the most interesting parts to users, i.e., video highlight, has become an urgent need with many broad applications. As users’ visual preferences are subjective and vary from person to person, previous generalized video highlight extraction models fail to tailor to users’ unique preferences. In this paper, we study the problem of personalized video highlight recommendation with rich visual content. By dividing each video into non-overlapping segments, we formulate the problem as a personalized segment recommendation task with many new segments in the test stage. The key challenges of this problem lie in: the cold-start users with limited video highlight records in the training data and new segments without any user ratings at the test stage. To tackle these challenges, an intuitive idea is to formulate a user-item interaction graph and perform inductive graph neural network based models for better user and item embedding learning. However, the graph embedding models fail to generalize to unseen items as these models rely on the item content feature and item link information for item embedding calculation. To this end, we propose an inductive Graph based Transfer learning framework for personalized video highlight Recommendation (TransGRec). TransGRec is composed of two parts: a graph neural network followed by an item embedding transfer network. Specifically, the graph neural network part exploits the higher-order proximity between users and segments to alleviate the user cold-start problem. The transfer network is designed to approximate the learned item embeddings from graph neural networks by taking each item’s visual content as input, in order to tackle the new segment problem in the test phase. Bilingual lexicon induction (BLI) can transfer knowledgefrom well- to under- resourced language, and has been widelyapplied to various NLP tasks. Recent work on BLI is projection-based that learns a mapping to connect source and target embedding spaces, with the isomorphism assumption. Unfortunately, the isomorphism assumption doesn't hold gener-ally, especially in typologically distant language pairs. Moreover, without supervised signals guiding, the training will further com-plicates BLI, making the performance of unsupervised methods unsatisfactory. To broke the restrict of isomorphism, we propose a semi-supervised method for distant BLI tasks, named A Semi-supervised Bilingual Lexicon Induction method in Latent Space based on Bidirectional Adversarial Model. First, two latent spaces are learned by two autoencoders for source and target domain independently to weaken the constraint of isomorphism in the embedding spaces. Then we add a few pairs of dictionary to learn the initial mapping to connect the Latent Space. Last, based on initial mapping, Cycle-Consistency is combined with Distance constraint constraint to maintain the geometry structure of both embedding spaces stable in the learning of bi-direction mapping based on adversarial model. By conducting extensive experiments, our method gets state-of-the-art results on most language pairs, especially with significant improvements on distant language pairs.

Quaternion factorization machines: A lightweight solution to intricate feature interaction modelling

Due to the sparsity of available features in web-scale predictive analytics, combinatorial features become a crucial means for deriving accurate predictions. As a well-established approach, factorization machine (FM) is capable of automatically learning high-order interactions among features to make predictions without the need for manual feature engineering. With the prominent development of deep neural networks (DNNs), there is a recent and ongoing trend of enhancing the expressiveness of FM-based models with DNNs. However, though better results are obtained with DNN-based FM variants, such performance gain is paid off by an enormous amount (usually millions) of excessive model parameters on top of the plain FM. Consequently, the heavy parameterization impedes the real-life practicality of those deep models, especially efficient deployment on resource-constrained IoT and edge devices. In this paper, we move beyond the traditional real space where most deep FM-based models are defined, and seek solutions from quaternion representations within the hypercomplex space. Specifically, we propose the quaternion factorization machine (QFM) and quaternion neural factorization machine (QNFM), which are two novel lightweight and memory-efficient quaternion-valued models for sparse predictive analytics. By introducing a brand new take on FM-based models with the notion of quaternion algebra, our models not only enable expressive inter-component feature interactions, but also significantly reduce the parameter size due to lower degrees of freedom in the hypercomplex Hamilton product compared with real-valued matrix multiplication. Extensive experimental results on three large-scale datasets demonstrate that QFM achieves 4.36% performance improvement over the plain FM without introducing any extra parameters, while QNFM outperforms all baselines with up to two magnitudes' parameter size reduction in comparison to state-of-the-art peer methods. The graph with complex annotations is the most potent data type, whose constantly evolving motivates further exploration of the unsupervised dynamic graph representation. One of the representative paradigms is graph contrastive learning. It constructs self-supervised signals by maximizing the mutual information between the statistic graph's augmentation views. However, the semantics and labels may change within the augmentation process, causing a significant performance drop in downstream tasks. This drawback becomes greatly magnified on dynamic graphs. To address this problem, we designed a simple yet effective framework named CLDG. Firstly, we elaborate that dynamic graphs have temporal translation invariance at different levels. Then, we proposed a sampling layer to extract the temporally-persistent signals. It will encourage the node to maintain consistent local and global representations, i.e., temporal translation invariance under the timespan views. The extensive experiments demonstrate the effectiveness and efficiency of the method on seven datasets by outperforming eight unsupervised state-of-the-art baselines and showing competitiveness against four semi-supervised methods. Compared with the existing dynamic graph method, the number of model parameters and training time is reduced by an average of 2,001.86 times and 130.31 times on seven datasets, respectively. Large-scale pre-trained models such as GPT and BERT have demonstrated remarkable performance in information extraction tasks. However, their black-box nature poses challenges for reliability and interpretability. In contrast, rule- based extraction methods have better interpretability, but typically require domain experts to manually establish rules, limiting their generalization ability. In industry, there is often a demand for reliable knowledge extraction to reduce the time spent on manual verification of each piece of knowledge. In this paper, we explore the idea of combining GPT and symbolic-based methods to automatically discover reliable extraction patterns in text with a particular writing style. This method leverages the characteristics of high information density and similar writing patterns in text with a specific writing style to generate verifiable and reliable patterns. We conduct experiments on two datasets with a specific writing style to demonstrate its effectiveness, validating the idea of combining large models for reliable information extraction pattern discovery in the tested datasets.

Group based personalized search by integrating search behaviour and friend network

The key to personalized search is to build the user profile based on historical behaviour. To deal with the users who lack historical data, group based personalized models were proposed to incorporate the profiles of similar users when re-ranking the results. However, similar users are mostly found based on simple lexical or topical similarity in search behaviours. In this paper, we propose a neural network enhanced method to highlight similar users in semantic space. Furthermore, we argue that the behaviour-based similar users are still insufficient to understand a new query when user's historical activities are limited. To tackle this issue, we introduce the friend network into personalized search to determine the closeness between users in another way. Since the friendship is often formed based on similar background or interest, there are plenty of personalized signals hidden in the friend network naturally. Specifically, we propose a friend network enhanced personalized search model, which groups the user into multiple friend circles based on search behaviours and friend relations respectively. These two types of friend circles are complementary to construct a more comprehensive group profile for refining the personalization. Stream processing prevails and SQL query on streams has become one of the most popular application scenarios. For example, in 2021, the global number of active IoT endpoints reaches 12.3 billion. Unfortunately, the increasing scale of data and strict user requests place much pressure on existing stream processing systems, requiring high processing throughput with low latency. To further improve the performance of current stream processing systems, we propose a compression-based stream processing engine, called CompressStreamDB, which enables adaptive fine-grained stream processing directly on compressed streams, without decompression. Particularly, CompressStreamDB involves eight compression methods targeting various data types in streams, and it also provides a cost model for dynamically selecting the appropriate compression methods. By exploring data redundancy among streams, CompressStreamDB not only saves space in data transmission between client and server, but also achieves high throughput with low latency in SQL query on stream processing. Our experimental results show that compared to the state-of-the-art stream processing system on uncompressed streams, CompressStreamDB achieves 3.24× throughput improvement and 66.0% lower latency on average. Besides, CompressStreamDB saves 66.8% space.

Visual Question Answering (VQA) is to reason out correct answers based on input questions and images. Significant progresses have been made by learning rich embedding features from images and questions by bilinear models. Attention mechanisms are widely used to focus on specific visual and textual information in VQA reasoning process. However, most state-of-the-art methods concentrate on fusing the global multi-modal features, while neglect local features. Besides, the dimension is reduced excessively (from K×2048 to 2048) in general visual attention, which causes a mass of visual information loss. In this paper, we propose a novel multi-channel co-attention network (MC-CAN), which integrates multi-modal features from global level to local level. We design different multi-channel attention mechanisms separately for visual (from K×2048 to M×2048) and textual features at different level of integrations. Additionally, we further improve our proposed approach by combining it with the complementary modules such as the MLB and the Count modules. Experiments on benchmark datasets show that our approach achieves better VQA performance than other state-of-the-art methods.
