Digital transformation in manufacturing has become a trend with the continuous development of cloud computing and edge computing. The production process of firearms components is highly challenging and quality problems in the production process may directly affect the safety of people's lives and property. Thus, this paper proposes a production-quality early warning method for firearms components based on cloud-edge collaboration. Real-time early warning and rapid processing for abnormal conditions in the production process are realized based on cloud data analysis and edge intelligent prediction, thereby improving production efficiency and quality. The cloud edge collaboration framework is developed for cloud training of the long short-term memory models and real-time sample edge acquisition, enhancing the adaptability of quality early warning algorithms under specific conditions and the real-time quality of early warning for firearms components.

With the aim of resolving the issue of cluster analysis more precisely and validly, a new approach was proposed based on biogeography-based optimization (abbreviated as BBO) algorithm. (Method) First, we reformulated the problem with an optimization model based on the variance ratio criterion (VARAC). Then, BBO was presented to search the optimal solution of the VARAC. There are 400 data of four groups in the experimental dataset, which have the degrees of overlapping of three distinct scales. The first one is nonoverlapping, the second one is partial overlapping, and the last is severely overlapping. BBO algorithm was compared with three different state-of-the-art approaches. We ran every algorithm 20 times. In this experiment, our results demonstrate the maximum VARAC values that can be found by BBO. The conclusion is that BBO is predominant which is extremely quick for the issue of clustering analysis. © Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2017.

Visual Feature Combination Approach for Zero-Shot Learning

Zero-Shot learning is an important research in the field of machine learning and image recognition. Zero-Shot learning methods normally use the semantic information among unseen classes and seen classes to transfer the knowledge which is learned from examples of seen classes to unseen classes, so as to recognize and classify the examples of unseen classes. In this study, a zero-shot learning approach based on construction of visual feature combination is proposed. The approach generates many examples of unseen class on visual feature level by the way of feature combination, which is first proposed, and thus transforms zero-shot learning problem to be a traditional classification problem solved by supervised learning. The approach mimics human cognition process of associative memory, and includes four steps: feature-attribute relation extraction, example construction, example screening, and domain adaption. On training examples of seen classes, the relationship between class attributes and dimensions of feature is extracted;on visual feature level, examples of unseen classes are generated by visual feature combination;dissimilarity representation is introduced to filter the generated examples of unseen classes;semi-supervised and unsupervised feature domain adaption are proposed to linearly transform the generated examples of unseen classes to be more effective. The proposed approach shows superior performance on three benchmark datasets (AwA, AwA2, and SUN), especially on dataset AwA, it obtains 82.6% top-1 accuracy which is the best result as far as we know. To the best of our knowledge, this paper is the first to apply IoT technologies to transform the popular Mahjong game into a Digital Mahjong System (DMS) for digitally performing cognitive assessments. People have started exploring digital cognitive assessment tools for better objectivity and simplification. However, most of these tools are not friendly for older adults. This paper aims to address this issue by integrating IoT technologies with Mahjong to make cognitive assessment simpler and more engaging for older adults. DMS has the following features: 1) integrating motion tracking devices into Mahjong tiles and transferring them into Digital Mahjong Tiles (DMTs), which can precisely capture their moving trajectory during the assessment, 2) using a Near Field Communication reader to configure DMT’s primary data, 3) supporting Over-The-Air Device Firmware Update that can be done remotely via Bluetooth, and 4) developing a charging base that can charge 16 DMTs simultaneously using Qi wireless charging standard. With further testing, the DMS has the potential to become a digital platform to implement and test various cognitive assessment tools integrating Mahjong elements. © 2022, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Temporal Gated Face Alignment Network for Camera-Based Physiological Sensing

The remote photoplethysmography (rPPG) technique enables the estimation of vital signs such as heart rate by analyzing pulse-induced subtle skin color variation from facial videos. Robustly deriving cardiac pulse information with head motion (\eg, rotation and swings) interference, remains a critical challenge, as it inevitably introduces complex noise disturbances such as facial geometric deformation and head motions. Most existing approaches primarily focus on how to extract the weak pulse signals, overlooking the detrimental effects induced by such noises. In response to this, we propose a Temporal Gated Face Alignment Network (TGFAN) to adaptively counteract motion noise in long-term video sequences. As key modules in TGFAN, the bidirectional temporal face alignment block first captures inter-frame motion discrepancies and achieves temporal alignment, and then extracts motion-robust pulse features by spatiotemporal convolution. Furthermore, we also propose a temporal gating mechanism, which can dynamically guide motion-disturbed segments for face alignment to alleviate local temporal interference. Experimental evaluations on four public datasets demonstrate the superior performance of our proposed model under both intra-dataset and cross-dataset tests. Image segmentation problem is a fundamental task and process in computer vision and image processing applications. It is well known that the performance of image segmentation is mainly influenced by two factors: the segmentation approaches and the feature presentation. As for image segmentation methods, clustering algorithm is one of the most popular approaches. However, most current clustering-based segmentation methods exist some problems, such as the number of regions of image have to be given prior, the different initial cluster centers will produce different segmentation results and so on. In this paper, we present a novel image segmentation approach based on DP clustering algorithm. Compared with the current methods, our method has several improved advantages as follows: 1) This algorithm could directly give the cluster number of the image based on the decision graph; 2) The cluster centers could be identified correctly; 3) We could simply achieve the hierarchical segmentation according to the applications requirement. A lot of experiments demonstrate the validity of this novel segmentation algorithm.

A deep belief network-based method to identify proteomic risk markers for Alzheimer’s disease

While a large body of research has formally identified apolipoprotein E (APOE) as a major genetic risk marker for Alzheimer’s disease, accumulating evidence supports the notion that other risk markers may exist. The traditional Alzheimer’s-specific signature analysis methods, however, have not been able to make full use of rich protein expression data, especially the interaction between attributes. This paper develops a novel feature selection method to identify pathogenic factors of Alzheimer’s disease using the proteomic and clinical data. This approach has taken the weights of network nodes as the importance order of signaling protein expression values. After generating and evaluating the candidate subset, the method helps to select an optimal subset of proteins that achieved an accuracy greater than 90%, which is superior to traditional machine learning methods for clinical Alzheimer’s disease diagnosis. Besides identifying a proteomic risk marker and further reinforce the link between metabolic risk factors and Alzheimer’s disease, this paper also suggests that apidonectin-linked pathways are a possible therapeutic drug target. A Low-Rank Matching Attention Based Cross-Modal Feature Fusion Method for Conversational Emotion Recognition

Conversational emotion recognition (CER) is an important research topic in human-computer interactions. Although recent advancements in transformer-based cross-modal fusion methods have shown promise in CER tasks, they tend to overlook the crucial intra-modal and inter-modal emotional interaction or suffer from high computational complexity. To address this, we introduce a novel and lightweight cross-modal feature fusion method called Low-Rank Matching Attention Method (LMAM). LMAM effectively captures contextual emotional semantic information in conversations while mitigating the quadratic complexity issue caused by the self-attention mechanism. Specifically, by setting a matching weight and calculating inter-modal features attention scores row by row, LMAM requires only one-third of the parameters of self-attention methods. We also employ the low-rank decomposition method on the weights to further reduce the number of parameters in LMAM. As a result, LMAM offers a lightweight model while avoiding overfitting problems caused by a large number of parameters. Moreover, LMAM is able to fully exploit the intra-modal emotional contextual information within each modality and integrates complementary emotional semantic information across modalities by computing and fusing similarities of intra-modal and inter-modal features simultaneously. Experimental results verify the superiority of LMAM compared with other popular cross-modal fusion methods on the premise of being more lightweight. Also, LMAM can be embedded into any existing state-of-the-art CER methods in a plug-and-play manner, and can be applied to other multi-modal recognition tasks, e.g., session recommendation and humour detection, demonstrating its remarkable generalization ability. © 2024 IEEE.

Token-Event-Role Structure-based Multi-Channel Document-Level Event Extraction

Document-level event extraction is a long-standing challenging information retrieval problem involving a sequence of sub-tasks: entity extraction, event type judgment, and event type-specific multi-event extraction. However, addressing the problem as multiple learning tasks leads to increased model complexity. Also, existing methods insufficiently utilize the correlation of entities crossing different events, resulting in limited event extraction performance. This paper introduces a novel framework for document-level event extraction, incorporating a new data structure called token-event-role and a multi-channel argument role prediction module. The proposed data structure enables our model to uncover the primary role of tokens in multiple events, facilitating a more comprehensive understanding of event relationships. By leveraging the multichannel prediction module, we transform entity and multi-event extraction into a single task of predicting token-event pairs, thereby reducing the overall parameter size and enhancing model efficiency. The results demonstrate that our approach outperforms the state-of-the-art method by 9.5 percentage points in terms of the F1 score, highlighting its superior performance in event extraction. Furthermore, an ablation study confirms the significant value of the proposed data structure in improving event extraction tasks, further validating its importance in enhancing the overall performance of the framework.
