Welding is both as art and science and its common use is the jointing of points. Some of the welding procedures used for jointing metal pipes are Tungsten Inert Gas and Gas Metal Arc welding and in common practice plastic pipes are bonded with the use of butt-fusion welding procedure. Since 1970’s conjoint analysis was used as a way of finding out what the preference of consumers. The objective of this study is to determine the combination welding attributes that were most preferred using a conjoint analysis approach. With conjoint analysis, together with, the orthogonal design the preference for welding materials and procedures were analyzed. It showed that pipe material with 29.24% was the most preferred attribute and Non-destructive test as the least preferred with $\mathbf{2. 6 6 \%}$. The result of this study may be utilized in future related reviews and could be applicable in other related Mechanical systems requiring welding works.

This paper presents the context of the Ubiquitous Computing course carried out in an industrial engineering undergraduate program throughout 2020 and the first semester of 2021. This course took advantage of the Institutional Modernization program led by the Control and Automation engineering Undergraduate program, which consists in the modernization of undergraduate engineering programs at the Pontifical Catholic University of Paraná. The course aimed to help develop competencies, i.e., a set of knowledge, skills, and attributes aligned with Student Outcomes suggested by ABET. Also, the course proposal brought the productive sector very close to the academic environment, proposing real engineering problems as challenges. However, what are the methods and assessment tools for practical learning in a course with modern elements? This paper proposed the flipped learning and the Challenge-Based Learning Framework with the support of the CDIO Framework as learning methodologies to answer such question. Additionally, quizzes, tests, presentations, rubrics, and peer evaluation were applied as assessment tools to measure the student's progress. Finally, students were listened to about their perceptions during the course. The results suggested that the learning methodologies and assessment tools are suitable for the course context, although some improvements are expected for the following course offers. Moreover, students approved the initiative to bring in real challenges proposed by companies, the mentoring hours, and the feedback about the projects.

This study aimed to examine the factors influencing the acceptance of eLearning platforms in medical education during the COVID-19 pandemic in the Philippines, using the latent variables from the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology 2 (UTAUT2) and two additional variables derived from relevant literature. A total of $\mathbf{3 6 0}$ medical students participated by completing an online survey comprising 40 questions. The analysis, conducted using stepwise multiple linear regression, revealed that Performance Expectancy (PE), Habit (HB), and Instructor Characteristics (IC) were significant predictors of Actual Use (AU) with an accuracy of 54.22%. Higher levels of PE, HB, and IC were found to positively influence the acceptance and utilization of medical eLearning platforms. The findings from this study can provide valuable insights for the Commission on Higher Education in the Philippines, aiding in the enhancement of eLearning platforms for medical education. Although this research primarily focused on UTAUT2 and two additional variables-Learning Value and Instructor Characteristicsthe results offer substantial implications for the broader development f eLearning platforms in the medical field.

The 2011 flood in Thailand exposed significant vulnerabilities in industrial areas, highlighting the necessity for enhanced disaster risk management through Area-Business Continuity Management (Area-BCM). This preliminary study focuses on identifying how stakeholders rely on information from each other to improve disaster preparedness and response. The research involves systematically identifying Area-BCM stakeholders and designing interview questions, which are evaluated by experts using the Index of Item-Objective Congruence (IOC) to ensure relevance and clarity. All interview questions surpassed the IOC threshold of 0.5, confirming their effectiveness in capturing information interdependencies. Expert feedback led to refinements in the questions, underscoring the importance of tailored data collection. This initial plan provides a critical foundation for understanding information interdependence and highlights the importance of well-designed data collection methods. The findings have significant implications for developing more resilient disaster management strategies in industrial areas, emphasizing the need for precise and relevant stakeholder communication to enhance Area-BCM effectiveness.

Fleet operations have been one of the main concerns of a wide range of industries, particularly those industries in which transportation plays a pivotal role for operational continuity, such as logistics service providers and public transportation. In addition, accentuated by the social and economic globalization, new scenarios and higher requirements were introduced to the transportation sector and, therefore, the need for advanced techniques, such as optimization, traffic modeling, and machine learning, to improve fleet operations, is growing. As for machine learning, although an increasing number of data-driven methods are observed in manufacturing and mobility solutions, there is still a gap in terms of literature reviews related to machine learning applications in fleet operations. Based on this gap, a systematic literature review was conducted, and several applications related to machine learning in fleet operations were identified, most of them encompassing aspects related to predictive maintenance of mechanical systems and components. It was also identified that most of the studies were based on a single data source and did not approach aspects related to the deployment of the machine learning models and data analysis workflows. Therefore, based on the findings from this literature review, the present paper aims to present an overview of the main machine learning applications in fleet operations and propose a data analysis workflow for the connectivity monitoring of heavy vehicles based on multiple data sources.

The braking system of any road vehicle is subject to extensive legislative standards and requirements in many regions around the world. In buses, which belong to M3 category, one of the most critical demands is occupancy rate of passengers that leads to affect Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW). More and more, customers are pushing the manufactures to increase the GVW of buses to allow more passengers inside and consequently increase profitability of the operation. By increasing GVW braking system has to present better performance to fulfill requirements. ECE R13 regulation establishes 2.5m/s2 as minimum Mean Fully Developed Deceleration (MFDD) and 64,4meters as maximum Stopping Distance (SD) acceptable to secondary brake performance. In a 4x2 vehicle with GVW of 19.5 tons fitted with disc brakes these requirements are actually fulfilled, but by adding 600 kg it became out of requirements. Based on the parameters which might affect braking performance, three different approaches were studied, tested and disposed in a decision matrix to choose most feasible in terms of performance, costs, manufacturing and time to implementation: a new protecting valve setup, increasing residual pressure at port 21 and 22;a new pneumatic scheme using a Double Check Valve (DCV) to share residual pressure from non- failed circuit to failed circuit;and finally an exchange of 24" service brake chambers by a 27" in both axles, being those solutions preselected as feasible solutions in terms of less impacts to brake system. Tests were performed considering failure at front (FA) and rear (RA) axles. By taking baseline results with MFDD 5.49% and 1.63%, and SD 3.09% and 4.72% out of requirements for FA and RA failures respectively, test results for proposed solutions showed in a ranking: DCV solution as the best performance, which had improved MFDD by 50.56% and 51.92%, and SD had decreased by 67.51% and 59.44%;27" service chambers as second best solution, which had improved MFDD by 17.80% and 16.23

Agriculture stands as one of the major economic pillars worldwide, with food production contributing significantly to income growth. However, agricultural activities also entail risks associated with uncontrollable factors along the supply chain. To address these challenges, mathematical models have been developed for forecasting crucial variables in managing agribusiness activities. In this context, this article employs a combination of systematic bibliometric analysis and the Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) method, a semi-automated approach. The main objective of this study was to automate the identification of relevant topics and construct a bibliographic portfolio (BP) covering the period 2015–2022, focusing on methodologies used in articles and other bibliometric analyses. The 30 articles included in the BP address issues related to methodologies applied in the temporal analysis of agricultural commodities. These articles were categorized based on the nature of the prediction models used, classified as (i) machine learning (ML), (ii) machine learning and artificial neural networks (ML-NN), (iii) machine learning and ensemble (ML-Ensemble), (iv) machine learning and hybrid (ML-hybrid), and (v) statistical. Regarding the results, the topic that stood out the most was termed “Forecasting Methods Applied to Agribusiness Time Series.” The most utilized classes were ML-hybrid (41.95 %) and statistical (29.31 %), followed by ML-NN (14.94 %), ML (9.20 %), and ML-Ensemble (4.60 %) types. The theoretical contribution of this study lies in identifying literary gaps concerning forecasting methods applied to agribusiness, while its practical implication is to identify forecasting methodologies to support decision-making. © 2024 The Authors

PPM-HC: A method for helping project portfolio management based on topic hierarchy learnings

The projects categorisation is a crucial step in the project portfolio management (PPM). Categorising projects allows the organisation to identify categories with a lack or excess of projects, according to its strategic objectives. In this work, we present a new method for project portfolio management based on hierarchical clustering (PPM-HC) to organise the projects at several levels of abstraction. In the PPM-HC, similar projects are allocated to the same clusters and subclusters. PPM-HC automatically learns an understandable topic hierarchy from the project portfolio dataset, thereby facilitating the (human) task of exploring, analysing and prioritising the projects of the organisation. We also proposed a card sorting-based technique which allows the evaluation of the projects categorisation using an intuitive visual map. We carried out an experimental evaluation based on a benchmark dataset and we also presented a real-world case study. The results show that the proposed PPM-HC method is promising. © 2021 Inderscience Enterprises Ltd.

This research evaluates the effectiveness of Mean-Variance (MV) and Safety-First (SF) portfolio selection strategies for high-volume/high-value traded stocks on the Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE). Analyzing data from 288 stocks over 7,670 trading days (30 years), we estimated stock returns, assigned probability weights, and conducted optimization models. The results show that the Mean-Variance (MV0.5) strategy achieved the best balance between risk and return, boasting the highest mean and cumulative returns with moderate volatility. The Safety-First (SF) strategy, however, yielded negative cumulative returns, indicating potential issues. The Market strategy had the lowest mean return but also the least risk, appealing to risk-averse investors. The Portfolio Mean-Variance (PMV) strategy provided a reasonable balance of returns and risk. Statistical analysis revealed that only the MV0.5 strategy outperformed market returns. These findings offer crucial insights into risk assessment and portfolio management for investors evaluating these strategies against market performance.
