Comparison of pulse rate variability from post-auricula and heart rate variability during different body states for healthy subjects

Heart rate variability (HRV) extracted from the electrocardiogram (ECG) is an essential indicator for assessing the autonomic nervous system in clinical. Some scholars have studied the feasibility of pulse rate variability (PRV) instead of HRV. However, there is little qualitative research in different body states. In this paper, the photoplethysmography (PPG) of postauricular and finger and the ECG of fifteen subjects were synchronously collected for comparative analysis. The eleven experiments were designed according to the daily living state, including the stationary state, limb movement state, and facial movement state. The substitutability of nine variables was investigated in the time, frequency, and nonlinearity domain by Passing Bablok regression and Bland Altman analysis. The results showed that the PPG of the finger was destroyed in the limb movement state. There were six variables of postauricular PRV, which showed a positive linear relationship and good agreement (p > 0.05, ratio (Formula presented.) 0.2) with HRV in all experiments. Our study suggests that the postauricular PPG could retain the necessary information of the pulse signal under the limb movement state and facial movement state. Therefore, postauricular PPG could be a better substitute for HRV, daily PPG detection, and mobile health than finger PPG. © 2023 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group.

Periodical time-delay scenario is often encountered in industrial manufacturing processes. However, the presence of time delays and periodical coefficients brings challenges to controller design and system analysis, which thereby hinders the performance improvement of such systems. In this work, the dynamics of milling systems are transformed into a time-invariant finite-dimensional uncertain model described by Fourier series and Padé approximation. An adaptive active control law is accordingly designed to stabilize such complex dynamics. With the assistance of LaSalle–Yoshizawa theorem, conditions are derived to guarantee sufficiently large stability regions of the corresponding closed-loop system. A numerical case study is conducted on a standard two degrees of freedom milling perturbation system to substantiate the superiority of the proposed adaptive active control technique in terms of enlarged stable operational regions. © 2005-2012 IEEE.

This study addresses linear attacks on remote state estimation within the context of a constrained alarm rate. Smart sensors, which are equipped with local Kalman filters, transmit innovations instead of raw measurements through a wireless communication network. This transmission is vulnerable to malicious data interception and manipulation by attackers. The aim of this research is to identify the optimal attack strategy that degrades the system performance while adhering to stealthiness constraints. A notable innovation of this paper is the direct association of the attack's stealthiness with the alarm rate, diverging from traditional approaches that rely on the covariance of the innovation or the Kullback-Leibler divergence, which are conventional metrics that have been extensively explored in previous studies. Our findings reveal that the optimal attack strategy exhibits some structural characteristics in systems of low dimensions. The performance of the proposed attack strategy is demonstrated through numerical examples. © 2024 IEEE.

Internet of Things (IoT) reliability evaluation contributes to the sustainable computing and enhanced stability of the network. Previous algorithms usually evaluate the reliability of IoT by enumenating the states of nodes and networks, which are difficult to handle IoT with hundreds of nodes because the computational cost. In this paper, a novel algorithm, TMCRA, is proposed to evaluate the reliability of IoT in complex network environment, which consider both coverage and connectivity. For coverage, TMCRA employs the Confident Information Coverage (CIC) model to divide the target area into independent grids and calculates the coverage rate. In terms of connectivity, TMCRA forming the Virtual Backbone Network (VBN) based on two proposed methods: TMA and MGIN, and evaluate connectivity by analyzing the VBN rather than the whole network. The TMA and MGIN are two algorithms for constructing Minimum Connected Dominant Sets (MCDS), which are suitable for different scale networks. Finally, based on the data of coverage and connectivity, TMCRA utilizes tensors for the unified modeling and representation of network structure, and calculates IoT reliability based on the tensors. Simulations are carried out for various sizes of IoT to show the advantages and effectiveness of the proposed approach in reliability evaluation. © 2016 IEEE.

Resilient Cooperative control of Multiple DC Microgrids With Interconnection Networks Against Cyber Attacks

The two control objectives of voltage regulation and precise current sharing are conflicting in multi-bus DC microgrids. In this paper, a distributed control strategy is proposed, and it can achieve accurate current sharing and regulate the voltage of a critical node to the rated value. However, such a distributed control system is susceptible to potential cyber attacks that could deteriorate microgrids performances by corrupting communication links or actuators. To overcome these difficulties, we design the interconnected communication networks to establish a resilient cooperative system of multiple microgrids against unknown bounded injection attacks. The proposed resilient control strategy can achieve the control objectives of maintaining voltage regulation and current sharing within each microgrids under different operating conditions, and the interconnected system consisting of multiple microgrids cooperates to mitigate the adverse effect of cyber attacks. The dynamics and stability of the overall close-loop system of the DC microgrids are analyzed, in the present or absent of cyber attacks. Simulation results validate the effectiveness of the proposed approach in two 4-bus DC microgrids. © 2023 IEEE.

A permanent magnet spherical motor (PMSpM) is a compact apparatus that can motion in three degrees of freedom. This paper proposes a parameter tuning method for genetic algorithm (GA) using full factorial experiments (FFE). The algorithm is implemented in the PMSpM driving current calculation. Firstly, the torque map of the PMSpM is created based on toroidal function, and the GA algorithm can calculate the optimal driving current for the PMSpM. Then, the FFE based parameter tuning method is proposed to reduce the correlation effect among different GA algorithm major elements after traditional parameter tuning. Finally, the simulations are conducted in Minitab and MATLAB, and the results indicate that the GA algorithm can get a better convergence rate rapidly after the FFE based parameter tuning. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.
