Evolutionary games are widely studied in the fields of biology, sociology, economics and informatics. People's interests focus on how cooperation emerged in a system that individuals are selfish. We studied the iterated Prisoner's Dilemma Game evolved on BA network with genetic algorithm. Nodes in network could remember the game historical strategies and coded into gene. We show that memory length has gentle effect on cooperation level, and that some characteristic genes and frequently used genes emerge after some generations. We also find that cooperate strategy distributed on different degree-nodes equably. These findings give new perspectives to the illustration of cooperation behavior in biological group and society.

Eye tracking is widely useful in several fields especially in medical field to help human diagnosis and treatment. The proposed of this study is to develop eye tracking system using intensity measurement algorithm and apply into Ophthalmic Operating Microscope. This paper presents heart sound signal processing that is a part of an automatic tele-auscultation system. Segmentation of the heart sound is performed using ECG signal as reference. Feature vector is constructed for each cardiac cycle by analyzing the systole and diastole of each cycle by applying discrete wavelet transform. Features are classified using pattern recognition neural network. The study incorporates four types of valve-related cardiac disorder that are normally diagnosed by auscultation: aortic regurgitation, aortic stenosis, mitral regurgitation and mitral stenosis. The result shows that for limited set of heart sounds, correct classification can be achieved. © 2009 SICE.

For the past decade, the pace of electrical distribution development has been unprecedented. This paper presents a high performance development in the remote terminal unit (RTU) of the distribution system. To support a high performance RTU (HPRTU), the real-time Linux (RT-Linux) operating system is the main operating system in the RTU's platform consisting of three main boards: (i) central processing unit (CPU); (ii) analogue-to-digital converter (A/D); and (iii) digital input/output (DIO) boards. However, the industrial world currently has many CPU platforms. It becomes more and more difficult to develop functions on all platforms. Therefore, the various platform compatibility and the viable function reuse benefits are two main benefits of the development on RT-Linux. Finally, these benefits reduce the development time and cost.

Behaviour inspection of huge dams is a very important procedure for dam failure prevention as early fault detection could reduce potential losses or damages. Traditionally, a behaviour inspection requires a lot of man-power and is not practical in some situations where critical inspection points are not accessible. This paper presents a design and implementation of Supervisory control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) System applied to Rajjaprabha Dam, Suratthani, Thailand. The system includes 37 water-level sensors, 11 Remote Terminal Units (RTUs), and a weather station. This system is designed to meet requirements such as cost effectiveness, system reliability and low power consumption. The behaviour inspection system has been under field testing and the results have been highly satisfactory.

This paper proposes a simple method to estimate the initial rotor position of a three-phase star-connected switched reluctance motor at standstill without position or current sensor. The key principle of the initial rotor position estimation is based on the stator inductance variation related to the actual rotor position. In the proposed method, only two narrow pulse voltage injections are applied in sequence and the initial rotor position can be estimated by comparing phase voltages and simple calculation. The method is suitable for low-cost applications where motor parameters and phase current data are not required. The proposed method is implemented for a 6-stator-pole, 4-rotor-pole, and 1.5 kW three-phase star-connected switched reluctance motor. The experimental results show the effectiveness of the proposed method. The accuracy of the initial rotor position estimation is within 2.5 electrical degrees, which is sufficient to start-up the switched reluctance motor without rotor back-kicking. © 2009 SICE.

A current-controlled PWM technique for brushless DC drives with only a single current sensor, particularly a low-cost shunt resistor, is presented. On one hand, the PWM technique offers a unipolar modulation which does not produce current in the floating phase. Therefore the winding currents can be sensed directly with the shunt resistor. On the other hand, the current is controlled with a predictive current control algorithm, which gives fast response and is so simple that it can be executed in every period of the PWM interrupt. In addition, the unipolar PWM modulation features low switching and winding losses. Since the standard three-phase bridge power inverter, without any modification, is maintained, the scheme is therefore suitable for household appliances and HVAC applications in which high robustness, high reliability, and low cost are mainly required.

The major problems of flux-linkage observer based sensorless techniques are drift and offset effects. To solve such problems, a modified rotor flux-linkage observer is firstly proposed to eliminate the drift phenomena. However, the offset occurrence still exists. Therefore, an adaptive offset cancellation technique is sequentially introduced to solve the offset phenomena. In addition, to further improve the performance of the proposed modified rotor flux-linkage observer, the influence of inaccurate machine parameters to the observer in terms of the estimated rotor position accuracy has been analyzed and, consequently, a simple steady-state rotor position error compensation technique has been introduced which, theoretically, makes the steady-state rotor position error become negligible and parameter insensitive. The performance of the proposed techniques, which was implemented on a low-cost fixed point DSP, is demonstrated experimentally.
