Functionality of wearable electronics depends directly on the manufacturing process and the reliability of the device at different conditions. Nonwoven high-density polyethylene (HDPE) fibers shows promising properties such as moisture resistance, which makes it an excellent candidate for washable smart garments. In this research, effect of screenprinting parameters on electrical resistance of printed silver trace on nonwoven HDPE fibers is studied. Reliability of the printed trace during isothermal fatigue cycling at different test conditions and ambient are investigated. The results of statistical analysis reveal that low pressure and high speed of squeegees lead to decrease in the electrical resistance and higher quality of the printed trace. Higher strain amplitude and higher initial resistance accelerate damage accumulation during fatigue cycling. Exposure of the printed silver trace to high humidity and temperature (85 RH%-85°C) does not have a negative impact on electromechanical behavior during cyclic loading.

In this paper we implement and evaluate two ways of controlling the steering angle of an autonomous vehicle, PID control with manual tuning followed by gradient descent algorithm tuning-which is able to enhance the performance through self-adjusting the controller parameters-and using supervised machine learning through the end-to-end deep learning for self-driving car which implement Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) to predict the steering angle for a given instance of a track. The verification testing went through two phases: software simulation using python for first run testing and C++ for simulation followed by track testing with a vehicle prototype. The proposed PID steering control system exhibits more stable steering commands-less oscillations-which makes it better than CNN Behavioral cloning control model. However, CNN Behavioral Cloning model may show better results after many several hours of training.

The vehicle routing problem (VRP) is one of the important problems that has been examined extensively over the past decades. The problem holds a central position within the fields of transportation logistics and supply chain management. Due to the NP-hard nature of the problem, many researchers have developed several heuristics and metaheuristics to solve the problem. This research proposes a hybrid bat algorithm to solve the VRP. The algorithm employs the Bat algorithm hybridized with a modified kmeans algorithm. The proposed solution technique adopts the methodology of cluster first route second to decompose the original VRP into traveling sales man problems (TSPs) with reduced complexity. Benchmark test instances from the literature are used to prove the efficiency of the proposed hybrid algorithm. © 2019 IEEE.

A solar thermoelectric generator (STEG) is a promising technology for harvesting solar energy for standalone applications. However, the STEG cannot generate electricity during nighttime due to unavailability of solar energy. The efficiency of thermoelectric generator (TEG) is also low that limits its application areas. This low efficiency can be improved by partially utilizing the waste heat from its cold side using phase change materials (PCMs). Further, the STEG systems operating during day and nighttime are not proposed so far. Therefore, an experimental test rig of a bidirectional (operative in day and night both) STEG coupled with latent heat storage and cooling system (LHSCS) has been developed in this paper. The LHSCS acts as a sink by storing waste heat from the TEG cold side in a phase change material during the daytime and regulates its temperature effectively. During nighttime, LHSCS acts as a heat source for TEG power generation. This proposed bidirectional model aims to provide non-intermittent electricity generation for 24 h. An experimental setup was tested under laboratory conditions and adjusted using a numerical model previously developed in COMSOL Multiphysics software. Once both models are mutually adjusted and verified, the proven numerical model is used to simulate the prototype in the environmental conditions of the Atacama Desert in Chile. The transient effects of solar radiation, ambient temperature and wind speed of the selected location on the hot and cold side temperatures, voltage, power output and efficiency of STEG have been analyzed. A maximum temperature difference of 120 °C is obtained between the TEG hot and cold sides. The experimental results showed TEG efficiency of 5%. The system generated average annual electricity of 5735 Wh. The STEG generated around 0.6 % of the total electricity during the night in the Atacama Desert location. In 2023, La Niña conditions that generally prevailed in the eastern Pacific Ocean from mid-2020 into early 2023 gave way to a strong El Niño by October. Atmospheric concentrations of Earth’s major greenhouse gases—carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide—all increased to record-high levels. The annual global average carbon dioxide concentration in the atmosphere rose to 419.3±0.1 ppm, which is 50% greater than the pre-industrial level. The growth from 2022 to 2023 was 2.8 ppm, the fourth highest in the record since the 1960s. The combined short-term effects of El Niño and the long-term effects of increasing levels of heat-trapping gases in the atmosphere contributed to new records for many essential climate variables reported here. The annual global temperature across land and oceans was the highest in records dating as far back as 1850, with the last seven months (June–December) having each been record warm. Over land, the globally averaged temperature was also record high. Dozens of countries reported record or near-record warmth for the year, including China and continental Europe as a whole (warmest on record), India and Russia (second warmest), and Canada (third warmest). Intense and widespread heatwaves were reported around the world. In Vietnam, an all-time national maximum temperature record of 44.2°C was observed at Tuong Duong on 7 May, surpassing the previous record of 43.4°C at Huong Khe on 20 April 2019. In Brazil, the air temperature reached 44.8°C in Araçuaí in Minas Gerais on 20 November, potentially a new national record and 12.8°C above normal. The effect of rising temperatures was apparent in the cryosphere, where snow cover extent by June 2023 was the smallest in the 56-year record for North America and seventh smallest for the Northern Hemisphere overall. AbstractThis narrative review explores radiomics in the broader context of liver disease research, an interdisciplinary field bridging medical imaging, oncology, and data science. It begins with an introduction to data analysis techniques, from foundational methods like descriptive statistics, comparative and regression analysis, and survival analysis, to advanced approaches like machine learning (ML), meta-analysis, and bioinformatics. Contextualizing these methodologies within liver disease research enhances our understanding of liver diseases. The focus is on radiomics, an emerging field, which is first placed in historical context before its applications are explained across fatty liver diseases (FLD), fibrosis, cirrhosis, and liver cancers. The role of radiomics in early detection, disease staging, and outcome prediction, particularly as a non-invasive alternative to liver biopsy, is analyzed in-depth. Current imaging modalities for liver cancer diagnosis are also examined, highlighting their advantages and limitations. Alongside radiomics, these imaging tools enable comprehensive liver assessment. Lastly, the integration of radiomics with other data types, especially genomic data, is explored, emphasizing its role in a holistic approach to liver disease management. The review concludes with a forward-looking perspective on future directions and advancements in radiomics and liver cancer research, addressing the challenges and opportunities in the field. It underscores the transformative impact of these developments on liver cancer research, patient care, personalized medicine, and clinical decision-making.

According to the theory of coordinated reset (CR) stimulation, multifocal bursts of stimuli delivered in a random order with a specific interval may reduce the resonance power of the oscillatory generator in the epicenter. We develop a noninvasive coordinated multifocal burst stimulation (COMBS) with three repetitive transcranial stimulation machines based on CR theory to modulate the target frequency in the primary motor cortex and to assess its effect on motor cortical excitability in separate experiments. Electroencephalography and electromyography were recorded in 16 healthy participants during a finger-tapping task, both before and after the intervention. The resting oscillatory power at the targeted frequency was not changed by COMBS. α-Band power was increased in both preparation and movement stages and the low β-band power was increased in the movement stage of the finger tapping task. The extent of low β-band event-related desynchronization was reduced by COMBS. There were no changes in reaction time, but there was a trend for a reduced error rate after COMBS. In another 14 healthy participants, there were no significant changes in cortical excitability before and after COMBS measured by rest motor threshold, short interval intracortical inhibition, short interval intracortical facilitation, and cortical silent period. The result indicates that COMBS may modify the cortical oscillatory power and its perturbation within specific movement stage. This is the first study, to our knowledge, to apply coordinated reset (CR) neuromodulation to the motor cortex with three repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) stimulators to assess its effect on cortical oscillation. The results revealed enhancement of α-band power specifically in preparation and movement stages and low β-band power in the movement stage of a motor task. It postulated that CR stimulation may modify the motor cortical oscillation in the specific movement stages.

This study aimed to integrate magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and related somatosensory evoked potential (SSEP) features to assist in the diagnosis of spinal cord compression (SCC). MRI scans were graded from 0 to 3 according to the changes in the subarachnoid space and scan signals to confirm differences in SCC levels. The amplitude, latency, and time–frequency analysis (TFA) power of preoperative SSEP features were extracted and the changes were used as standard judgments to detect neurological function changes. Then the patient distribution was quantified according to the SSEP feature changes under the same and different MRI compression grades. Significant differences were found in the amplitude and TFA power between MRI grades. We estimated three degrees of amplitude anomalies and power loss under each MRI grade and found the presence or absence of power loss occurs after abnormal changes in amplitude only. For SCC, few integrated approach combines the advantages of both MRI and evoked potentials. However, integrating the amplitude and TFA power changes of SSEP features with MRI grading can help in the diagnosis and speculate progression of SCC. © 2023, The Author(s).

Electronic health record (EHR) foundation models have been an area ripe for exploration with their improved performance in various medical tasks. Despite the rapid advances, there exists a fundamental limitation: Processing unseen medical codes out of the vocabulary. This problem limits the generality of EHR foundation models and the integration of models trained with different vocabularies. To deal with this problem, we propose MedRep for EHR foundation models based on the observational medical outcome partnership (OMOP) common data model (CDM), providing the integrated medical concept representations and the basic data augmentation strategy for patient trajectories. For concept representation learning, we enrich the information of each concept with a minimal definition through large language model (LLM) prompts and enhance the text-based representations through graph ontology of OMOP vocabulary. Trajectory augmentation randomly replaces selected concepts with other similar concepts that have closely related representations to let the model practice with the concepts out-of-vocabulary. Finally, we demonstrate that EHR foundation models trained with MedRep better maintain the prediction performance in external datasets.
