The functioning of vital services in a society depends heavily on the proper and continuous operation of critical infrastructure networks, including water, transportation, power, natural gas, and telecommunication. Such networks are essential for maintaining the economy, security, and overall quality of life. However, since these critical networks are interdependent;hence, they are susceptible to various types of disruptions caused by natural disasters, failures, or malicious activities, leading to varying degrees of performance impacts that could directly affect people's daily lives. Thus, a disruption to one network can quickly spread to others, resulting in significant impacts on daily life. Therefore, restoring such disrupted networks in a timely manner is crucial to ensure a prompt recovery and minimize the impact on daily life. In this work, we consider the problem of restoring a set of interdependent infrastructure networks following a disruptive event. We study two essential factors that can accelerate the recovery process: (i) the restoration facilities location, which are considered as dispatching points for restoration crews, and (ii) the routes of the restoration crews within the interdependent networks. Accordingly, we formulate two optimization models using mixed integer programming. The first model, restoration facility location model, finds the optimal location for restoration facilities within interdependent infrastructure networks considering uncertainty in disruptions. The second model, restoration crew routing model, determine the optimal routes for restoration crews within the interdependent infrastructure networks considering: (i) travelled distance, (ii) restoration time required for disrupted network components, and (iii) different importance of network components. The two optimization models are solved through generated interdependent power and water networks to demonstrate their effectiveness. © 2024 The Authors

Numerical simulation of the non-premixed combustion of methane air mixture in a gas turbine can- type swirl combustor is conducted. The study objective is to examine the effect of different design and operational parameters on the combustor performance and its emissions. The investigated parameters are the primary air flow rate, the swirl ratio between the secondary and the primary air and the fuel to the primary air swirl ratio. Several indicators are used to evaluate the combustion performance and emissions which include average exit temperature of the chamber, pattern factor, NOx and CO emission indices, combustion efficiency and the pressure drop. The results of the study demonstrate the importance of good tuning of the design and operating parameters for better performance and reduced emissions. © 2021 IEEE.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to create an air movement operations planning model to rapidly generate air mission request (AMR) assignment and routing courses of action (COA) in order to minimize unsupported AMRs, aircraft utilization and routing cost. Design/methodology/approach: In this paper, the US Army Aviation air movement operations planning problem is modeled as a mixed integer linear program (MILP) as an extension of the dial-a-ride problem (DARP). The paper also introduces a heuristic as an extension of a single-vehicle DARP demand insertion algorithm to generate feasible solutions in a tactically useful time period. Findings: The MILP model generates optimal solutions for small problems (low numbers of AMRs and small helicopter fleets). The heuristic generates near-optimal feasible solutions for problems of various sizes (up to 100 AMRs and 10 helicopter team fleet size) in near real time. research limitations/implications: Due to the inability of the MILP to produce optimal solutions for mid- and large-sized problems, this research is limited in commenting on the heuristic solution quality beyond the numerical experimentation. Additionally, the authors make several simplifying assumptions to generalize the average performance and capabilities of aircraft throughout a flight. Originality/value: This research is the first to solve the US Army Aviation air movement operations planning problem via a single formulation that incorporates multiple refuel nodes, minimization of unsupported demand by priority level, demand time windows, aircraft team utilization penalties, aircraft team time windows and maximum duration and passenger ride time limits. © 2022, In accordance with section 105 of the US Copyright Act, this work has been produced by a US government employee and shall be considered a public domain work, as copyright protection is not available.

The restoration of coral reef population in coastal regions is currently a growing concern. Many attempts have been made to apply new approaches to limit the deterioration of coral reefs, and to accelerate the growth of new reefs to protect coastal areas and ecosystems using available renewable energy sources. This paper highlights the new approaches and their various advantages and limitations in tidal and wave energy. The paper also suggests improvements to some of those systems using the recent developments in soft robotics, especially the use of biomimetic fish as a feasible support platform for the monitoring and maintenance of the power generation and potential restoration systems.

Neuroinflammation,mediated by the nucleotide-binding oligomerization domain-like receptor family pyrin domain-containing-3(NLRP3)inflammasome,is a significant contributor to the pathogenesis of neurodegenerative diseases(NDDs).Reynos-in,a natural sesquiterpene lactone(SL),exhibits a broad spectrum of pharmacological effects,suggesting its potential therapeutic ***,the effects and mechanism of reynosin on neuroinflammation remain *** current study explores the effects and mechanisms of reynosin on neuroinflammation using mice and BV-2 microglial cells treated with lipopolysaccharide(LPS).Our findings reveal that reynosin effectively reduces microglial inflammation in vitro,as demonstrated by decreased CD11b expression and lowered interleukin-1 beta(IL-1β)and interleukin-18(IL-18)mRNA and protein ***,in vivo,results showed a re-duction in the number of Iba-1 positive cells and alleviation of morphological alterations,alongside decreased expressions of IL-1βand *** analysis indicates that reynosin inhibits NLRP3 inflammasome activation,evidenced by reduced transcription of NLRP3 and caspase-1,diminished NLRP3 protein expression,inhibited apoptosis-associated speck-like protein containing a CARD(ASC)oli-gomerization,and decreased caspase-1 ***,reynosin curtailed the activation of nicotinamide adenine dinuc-leotide phosphate(NADPH)oxidase,demonstrated by reduced NADP^(+)and NADPH levels,downregulation of gp91^(phox) mRNA,pro-tein expression,suppression of p47^(phox) expression and translocation to the ***,reynosin exhibited a neuroprotective effect against microglial inflammation in vivo and in *** collective findings underscore reynosin’s capacity to mitigate mi-croglial inflammation by inhibiting the NLRP3 inflammasome,thus highlighting its potential as a therapeutic agent for managing neuroinflammation.

The use of modeling and simulation as a decision aid tool has been widely recognized in the field of production engineering. In this work, modeling and simulation is used to examine, analyze, and recommend improvements for the performance of an existing assembly line within a manufacturing facility. Several key performance indicators (KPIs) are determined to evaluate the performance of the assembly line under study. With the aid of Maynard Operation Sequence Technique (MOST) and Line Balancing methods, two improved systems are recommended to enhance the performance of the line under study. Simulation of the two recommended systems show an enhanced performance of the assembly line. © 2020 IEEE.

Crystal violet is a basic dye that is widely used by various industries, such as textiles and paints. These industries discharge their effluents, contaminated with crystal violet, into water streams, and these effluents have an adverse effect on aquatic organisms, the environment, and human health. Hence, this paper is directed at studying the removal of crystal violet using environmentally friendly, cost-effective adsorbent materials such as raw fava bean (RFP-H₃F), and chemically activated carbon (H3F) in comparison to commercial activated carbon (CAC).Various characterization techniques are applied, such as XRD, FT-IR,and SEM analyses. Then, the process of optimizing is shown through some preliminary experiments and a Response Surface Methodology (RSM) experiment to find the best conditions for removing crystal violet efficiently. Results revealed that the raw fava bean peels and the commercial activated carbon have the maximum removal efficiency of 95 %, and 83 % respectively, after 180 min of contact time. It is hypothesized that raw fava bean peels (RFP) and chemically activated carbon using phosphoric acid RFP-H₃F will exhibit comparable efficiency in removing crystal violet when compared to commercial activated carbon (CAC). Various characterization techniques, including X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR),and scanning electron microscopy (SEM), are applied to analyze the properties of the adsorbent materials. In the paper, a new technique for building a multi-band antenna array with rectangular split-ring resonators (SRRs) is described. The antenna's analysis and design are studied using simulations. On a low-cost FR4 substrate with a total area of 31,84 × 26,06 mm2, the antenna is mounted. The antenna array based on SRR exhibits three-band resonances with good gain characteristics. The simulations focus on calculating resonance frequencies, return loss, and radiation patterns in order to confirm the practicality and applicability of the proposed antenna concept. The Method of Moments (MOM) in Advanced Design System (ADS) software serves as the basis for the electromagnetic solution used in these simulations. Working inside the 3.5 GHz, 4 GHz, and 4.22 GHz bands. a verified S11 value of less than -10 dB suggests that the impedance matching of this antenna is adequate. It offers gains for the appropriate 6.6 dBi, 7.20 dBi, and 6.3 dBi frequency ranges. The antenna is compatible with WLAN (Wireless Local Area Network) 5G (fifth-generation technology standard for cellular networks), LTE (Long Term Evolution), and WiMAX (Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access: wireless broadband communication standards based on the IEEE 802.16 well suited for rural areas) wireless network systems, particularly those operating in the sub-6 GHz band. Some of the main features of this antenna are its symmetric radiation patterns, modest size, planar design, and stable gain. These characteristics make it a viable choice for modern S-band microwave wireless communication applications, especially for gadgets that run at frequencies lower than 6 GHz. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

The implementation of titanium dioxide (TiO2) as a photocatalyst material in hydrogen (H2) evolution reaction (HER) has embarked renewed interest in the past decade. Rapid electron-hole pairs recombination and wide band gap of a photo-sensitive material of TiO2 are detrimental toward the targeted catalytical reaction. In this study, we present the rational design, fabrication, photocatalytic performance of TiO2-Cu/CuO/Cu2O heterostructures (CuTi) using viable chemical reduction method. The Z-scheme and S-scheme are succesfully generated across the TiO2/CuO/Cu2O interfaces, while the Schottky junction arises on the Cu perimeters. This is evidenced from the blue shifted about 0.3 eV of Cu 2p core level determined by using X-ray photoemission spectroscopy (XPS), in combination with the formation of inverse V-shape of the Mott-Schottky plots. In addition, we find that Cu/CuO/Cu2O facilitates photon absorption range up to the visible region. The multiple heterojunction and the large number of OHsurface enhanced charge carrier transfer are associated to the suppression of photoluminescence (PL) intensity, high surface hydroxyl (OHsurface) density in CuTi probed by XPS, and fast electron transfer based on the electrochemical measurements. The presence of OHsurface inhibits the recombination of electron. A significant H2 photogeneration rate enhancement is achieved when an optimized 5 wt% Cu/CuO/Cu2O concentration is used on TiO2 to achieve 7,157.19 μmol·g−1 (1,789.30 μmol·g−1·h−1). Based on this finding, zero emission energy innitiative could be materialized under multiple heterojunctions in photocatalytic process is beneficial for enhancing the H2 production. © 2025 The Authors
