Information and communication technologies (ICTs) are playing an increasingly crucial role in tourism. One of the areas that can benefit most from these technologies is clearly the area of accessible tourism. However, accessible tourism, despite being associated with a market with great potential, is still largely ignored, due to the existence of some barriers. Technology-based solutions can help to overcome some obstacles, increasing the potential of this market. Therefore, this paper aims to present a study in the area of accessible tourism, integrating the main requirements of this type of market, and, consequently, design a web-based information system. To design the solution, a methodology centered on the users was adopted, followed by the conceptualization, using the Unified Modeling Language (UML) notation. Given the importance of these types of solutions and the lack of them in the field of accessible tourism, this study is expected to contribute with a positive response to the needs raised in that market, presenting a proposal for a technological solution that can help in the promotion of accessible tourism products and services.

Smart Mobility (SM) is one of the dimensions of Smart Cities, which goal is to improve the management of urban mobility, contributing to a better quality of life of their citizens. For this purpose, there are the Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), being in the base of intelligent Transportation systems (ITS). This paper aim to understand the concept of Smart Mobility and the role of ICT. It also analyzes the forthcoming means of transport that will determine the tendencies of mobility and consequently other ICT. This is an exploratory study based on literature that is supported in the database Scopus. The results are presented through bibliometric research, followed by a content analysis where the main technological solutions that provide support to SM are explored, as well as emergent means of transportation.

Forty years ago, in 1983, Lee Schruben proposed the Event Graph formalism and modeling language, subsequently defining the paradigm of Event-Based Simulation, in a precise way, which had been pioneered 20 years before by SIMSCRIPT. The purpose of this panel is for a group of Event Graph researchers both from Operations Research and Computer Science, including the inventor of Event Graphs and one of his former PhD students who has made essential contributions to their theory, to discuss their views on the history and potential of Event Graph modeling and simulation. In particular, the adoption of Event Graphs as a discrete process modeling language in Discrete Event Simulation and in Computer Science, and their potential as a foundation for the entire field of Discrete Event Simulation and for the fields of process modeling and AI in Computer Science is debated.

Electrical signals from the human body are constantly the focus of research, searching for a better understanding of physiological events, discovering early signs of disease, and improving life quality. Developing devices that allow research beyond the usual requirements and allow easy adaptation regarding the system’s acquisition, conditioning, and processing parts could be a step toward better understanding some behaviours. Therefore, this work focused on designing a system that goes from the discrete components to a graphical interface, allowing user control of parameters to set the acquisition in a way that favours the specific signal of interest. The resulting system allows the user to change parameters regarding the analogue and digital filtering, sampling frequency and events detection, namely R-peaks, in the electrocardiogram, to estimate heart rate and its frequency fluctuation, and muscle contraction in electromyogram, to analyse contraction strength and muscle fatigue. The system also allows the data to be stored, aiming to generate datasets to further process the data in AI-based algorithms.

To directly investigate the dynamic nanoscale phenomenon on the surface being processed in wet conditions such as precision polishing, and cleaning in semiconductor industrial, an optical method for visualization and observation of each sub-100 nm sized particle that is moving on an interface such as a silica glass surface by applying an evanescent field have been proposing. Subsequently, we developed an experimental apparatus equipped with an optical microscopy system for verifying the moving particle observation method in a laboratory scale. This article introduces some experimentally direct observation results of duplicated wet processes.

Wireless, multimodal, wearable sensor patches can perform remote diagnosis and monitoring. By integrating multiple sensors, multimodal, wearable patches generate large datasets. Complex data correlation and analyses of large datasets for real-time, automatic edge-type systems are challenging. Here, we present an integrated wearable sensor patch with edge computing for remote healthcare applications powered by reservoir computing. This sensor patch system is integrated with flexible sensors for electrocardiography, respiration, skin temperature, and skin humidity. Vital and activity data can be applied to monitor coughing, arrhythmias, and posture using a machine learning algorithm. Importantly, all measurements, wireless data transmission, and real-time data analyses are processed in a smartphone as an edge-computing system, which allows quick, real-time feedback to users without using a cloud network system. © 2024 The Author(s)

To measure the proton current in a PCFC (protonic ceramic fuel cell), the proton current detector was developed using a proton conducting oxide. The amount of proton current that flowed in the PCFC can be measured by an apparatus developed based on the electromotive force of an electrochemical cell using 10 mol% In-doped CaZrO3 (hydrogen sensor) and Y-stabilized zirconia (oxygen sensor). The water vapor pressure on the cathode changed when hydrogen ions pass through the PCFC. The hydrogen ion current can be determined by monitoring the water vapor pressure. The electronic leakage was then estimated from the hydrogen ion current and external current. We measured the current of hydrogen flowing through protonic ceramic fuel cell using ytterbium-doped barium zirconate as the electrolyte. Hydrogen ions and holes were found to leak under the OCV at 700°C. The electronic leakage was found to be suppressed with the increasing electrolyte film thickness. On the other hand, no leakage of hydrogen and holes was observed at 500°C. © The Electrochemical Society.

Perception tasks are critical for an autonomous driving system. In recent years, advancements in deep learning have enabled highly accurate perception. However, conquering perception tasks in poor visibility environments remains challenging. One of the main reasons is that most of the existing datasets are concentrated on visually clear environments. This makes it difficult to train deep learning-based perception models in limited visibility environments. Building a new dataset requires significant time and human resources, and annotating data from adverse visibility environments is even more challenging. To address these problems, many image translation methods have been proposed to translate annotated daytime images into nighttime ones to build a nighttime dataset without annotation. In this paper, we present an unsupervised day-to-night image translation network for generating synthetic data. Our proposed method extracts semantic information from input images. The extracted information is then applied to the image-to-image translation network as spatial attention maps. We conduct experiments to evaluate the proposed method. The experimental results show that our method outperforms the related works both qualitative and quantitative.
