Ionic liquids combined with supercriticalﬂuid technology hold great promise as working solvents for developing compact *** liquids,which are organic molten salts,typically have extremely low volatility and high functionality,but possess high viscos-ities,surface tensions and low diffusion coefﬁcients,which can limit their ***_(2),on the other hand,especially in its supercritical state,is a green solvent that can be used advantageously when combined with the ionic liquid to provide viscosity and surface tension reduction and to promote mass *** solubility of CO_(2) in the ionic liquid is key to estimating the important physical properties that include partition coefﬁcients,viscosities,densities,interfacial tensions,thermal conductivities and heat capacities needed in contactor *** this work,we examine a subset of available high pressure pure component ionic liquid PVT data and high pressure CO_(2)-ionic liquid solubility data and report new correlations for CO_(2)-ionic liquid systems with equations of state that have some industrial applications including:(1)general,(2)fuel desulfurization,(3)CO_(2) capture,and(4)chiral *** measurements of solubility data for the CO_(2) and 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium octyl sulfate,[bmim][OcSO4]system are reported and *** the correlation of the CO_(2) ionic liquid phase behavior,the Peng-Robinson and the Sanchez-Lacombe equations of state were considered and are *** is shown that excellent correlation of CO_(2) solubility can be obtained with either equation and they share some common characteristics regarding inter-action *** the Sanchez-Lacombe equation,parameters that are derived from the supercritical region were found to be important for obtaining good correlation of the CO_(2)-ionic liquid solubility data.

Traveling Salesman Problem (TSP) is one of the most difficult problems in the Combinatorial Optimization area. The goal of TSP is to find one path that can travel between all the nodes (instances) of the graph just once (Hamiltonian tour) in the smallest tour, that is, smallest Euclidian distance. In this context, many other meta-heuristics techniques based on evolutionary algorithms have been propose in literature to solve TSP problems. Differential Evolution (DE) is a relatively new simple evolutionary algorithm, which is an effective adaptive approach to global optimization over continuous search spaces. The design principles of DE are simplicity and efficiency. The most distinct feature of DE is that it mutates vectors by adding weighted. random vector differentials to them. Since its invention. DE has been applied with high success on many numerical optimization problems outperforming other more popular meta-heuristics such as the genetic algorithms. Recently. some researchers extended with success the application of DE to complex combinatorial optimization problems with discrete decision variables such as the traveling salesman problem, the machine layout problem, the now-shop scheduling problem. In this paper, the following discrete DE approaches for the TSP are proposed and evaluated: i) DE approach without local search, ii) DE with local search based on Lin-Kernighan-Heulsgaun (LKH) method, and iii) DE with local search based on Variable Neighborhood Search (VNS) and together with LKH method. Numerical study is carried out using the TSPLIB of test TSP problems. In this context, the computational results are compared with the other results in the recent TSP literature. The obtained results show that LKH method is the best method to reach optimal results for TSPLIB benchmarks, but for largest problems, the ED+VNS improve the quality of obtained results.

The main goal in design of grid connected photo voltaic systems is to maximize the energy generation based on local energy requirements, weather conditions, economic and social impact. These factors ought to be taken into account to perform a model that allow design grid-connected photo voltaic systems. In this paper a design-dimensioning model for a small grid-connected photo voltaic systems is developed. This model is based on energy conditions instead of power conditions. There are shown the two main trends that are typically used in the design process and the calculation of the two main components of the system (generator and inverter). An example of the design for a system located in Bogota-Colombia is studied.

During the history of science of computational intelligence, many evolutionary algorithms approaches were proposed having more or less success in solving various optimization problems. In this context, the Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) is a bio-inspired optimization mechanism based on the metaphor of social behaviour of birds flocking and fish schooling in search for food. Inspired by the classical PSO method and quantum mechanics theories, this work presents a Quantum-behaved PSO (QPSO) approach using Gaussian probability distribution function (G-QPSO). Numerical simulations based on optimized proportional-integral-derivative (PID) control of an automatic regulator voltage system for nominal system parameters and step reference voltage input demonstrate the effectiveness and efficiency of G-QPSO approach. Simulation results of G-QPSO to determine the PID parameters are compared with the classical PSO and QPSO. © 2008 IEEE.

With the increasing world demand for seafood and environmental problems in coastal aquaculture, offshore area has been increasingly expected to be utilized for aquaculture. The present study proposed the concept of an offshore aquaculture system with an automated feeding platform. The offshore aquaculture system has fewer effects on the surrounding marine environment through the rapid diffusion of organic wastes than the coastal one. The offshore area then provides clean waters for cultured fish. On the other hand, the offshore aquaculture system is subject to the severe natural condition such as typhoon attack. Actually, in the current aquaculture system, the cultured fish is starved during a few days before and after typhoon attack since the feeding ship is not able to approach the offshore sea cages, which is submerged every time around 10m below the sea surface to escape from high waves and strong currents. The automated feeding system should be therefore developed to enable the cultured fish to grow faster under the severe natural condition. The proposed system consists of several submerged fish cages and a feeding platform, which includes fuel tanks, feed storage silos, and an automated feeding machine. The feeding platform was designed by numerical analysis and tank model test in order to suppress its motion as small as possible. The motion of the feeding platform was first predicted by numerical analysis. The unmoved point was formed at each period of the incident wave. It moves upward as the period of the incident wave increases. Consequently, the point at 8m below the sea surface (3m above the bottom of the feeding platform) is the best one to attach the feeding hose. As a result of tank model test, pitch and heave motions of the feeding platform were dominant in the waves with short (1.5 seconds) and long (3.1 seconds) periods, respectively. Actually, in the current aquaculture system, the offshore fish cages are submerged every time around 10m below the sea surface to escape from high waves and strong currents. However, the safety of the sea cage against the incident wave has not been examined, while that against the water current has been analyzed by tank model test and numerical simulation. In the present study, therefore, the hydrodynamic forces on the submerged sea cage from the incident wave were investigated by the tank model test, and the motion of the submerged sea cage was observed. As a result of the forccd oscillation test, the numerical values of the added mass and damping coefficient of the sea cage scatter according to the wave amplitude for the same frequency of the forced oscillation. The difference in the added mass may be attributed to the effects of ladder and the bending of the net. The current analysis is focused on modeling of the bending of the net. Then the difference was also found in the damping coefficient at the same frequency of the forced oscillation. The damping coefficient based on viscosity was separated by the equivalent linearization using the equation of Morison's drag force. As a result, the scattering of the damping coefficient was reduced, adjusting the drag coefficient. This study analyses braking behaviour of train drivers and estimates drivers' mental condition using a train simulator. The velocity deviation recognised by drivers is defined by the difference between the present vehicle velocity and the desired velocity that enables the vehicle to stop at the desired position if the present deceleration is kept constant. Observing the relation between the velocity deviation and the braking operation enables the detection of abnormal driving behaviour. The phase-plane trajectory of the velocity deviation and the brake command with mental workload indicates a large velocity deviation and repetition of the braking operation, while the trajectory without mental workload indicates that both the velocity deviation and the brake command gradually approach the origin of the coordinate axes. © 2008 Taylor & Francis.

Differential evolution (DE) is a powerful population-based algorithm of evolutionary computation field designed for solving global optimization problems. The potentialities of DE are its simple structure, easy use, convergence speed and robustness. However, the control parameters and learning strategies involved in DE are highly dependent on the problems under consideration. Choosing suitable parameter values requires also previous experience of the user. Despite its crucial importance, there is no consistent methodology for determining the control parameters of a DE. In this paper, different DE approaches combined with a cultural algorithm technique based on normative and situational knowledge are proposed as alternative methods to solving the economic load dispatch problem of thermal generators with valve-point effect. The DE approaches are validated for a test system consisting of 13 thermal generators whose nonsmooth fuel cost function takes into account the valve-point loading effects. Numerical results indicate that performance of the cultural DE present best results when compared with previous optimization approaches in solving load dispatch problems with the valve-point effect.
