There is a worldwide concern with sustainable development and this has compelled organizations to modify their management systems and operations design in order to fit to this new environment. To have a sustainable business and operations means to be economically viable, to reduce or even not generate waste, to conserve energy and natural resources, to be safe to workers, communities and consumers, to improve quality of life, and to share value. It is noticed that Brazilian printing companies understand these demands and they are promoting changes in their strategy, business models and operations systems. The main goal of this research is to propose a conceptual framework for organizing sustainability practices in printing industry companies' operations. It is intended to answer the following research question, based on manufacturing operations analysis: Does the printing industry runs its operations in a sustainable way? Observing standards practices for economic, environmental and social sustainable aspects. It was conducted a literature review and also it was recovered secondary data from governmental institutes and agencies as well from printing companies associations. These elements helped in characterizing the context, structures and processes for designing, implementing and managing printing enterprise sustainable operations. The proposed framework intends to contain best practices for developing a sustainable operation and to be used for auditing and normative purposes. This will allow companies to adapt their operations models and systems in order to create a real sustainable enterprise.

This paper compares three methods of displacement measurement with 1 μm resolution using speckle pattern correlation. It shows to what extent the correlation curvecan be regarded as constant over a 100 μm interval and how it is possible to use this curve to reduce the number of required database patterns. Reducing the required database patterns makes it possible to expand the displacement measurement using speckle correlation to longer ranges and to two dimensions. This may lead to development of a two dimensional absolute scale for machine tools which could be fast and low cost.

This paper explores two important themes in the implementation of RFID in supply chain management: (1) analyzing differences between actual (perceived) and potential (expected) key benefits to see if there are benefit shortfalls for the key performances;and (2) performing a two-dimensional expectation- perception analysis (EPA) for the purpose of identifying competitive niche and strategically allocating and adjusting the company's resources. Empirical data were collected through surveys of executives of selected Taiwan based companies who had experienced RFID adoption in the supply chain practices. Finally, managerial implications and suggestions were provided for companies and industries that may be considering the adoption of RFID in SCM.

Real-world classification problems generally deal with imbalanced data, where one class represents the majority of the data set. The present work deals with event detection on a drinking-water quality time series, where the presence of a quality event is the minority class. In order to solve such problems, supervised learning algorithms are recommended. Researchers have also used multi-objective optimization (MOO) in order to generate diverse models to build ensembles of classifiers. Although MOO has been used for ensemble member generation, there is a lack on it's application for member selection, which is usually done by selecting a specific subset from the resulting models, or by using meta-algorithms, such as boosting. The proposed work comprises the application of MOO design in the whole process of ensemble generation. To do so, one multi-objective problem (MOP) is defined for the creation of a set of non-dominated solutions with Pareto-optimal support vector machines (SVM). After that, a second MOP is defined for the selection of such SVMs as members of an ensemble. Such methodology is compared to other member selection methods, such as: the single best classifier, an ensemble composed of the full set of non-dominated solutions, and the selection of a specific subset from the Pareto front. Results show that the proposed method is suitable for the creation of ensembles, achieving the highest classification scores.
