Multiobjective optimization approaches have allowed the improvement of technical features in industrial processes, focusing on more accurate approaches for solving complex engineering problems and support decision-making. This paper proposes a hybrid approach to optimize the 3D printing technology parameters, integrating the design of experiments and multiobjective optimization methods, as an alternative to classical parametrization design used in machining processes. Alongside the approach, a multiobjective differential evolution with uniform spherical pruning (usp-MODE) algorithm is proposed to serve as an optimization tool. The parametrization design problem considered in this research has the following three objectives: to minimize both surface roughness and dimensional accuracy while maximizing the mechanical resistance of the prototype. A benchmark with nondominated sorting genetic algorithm II (NSGA-II) and with the classical sp-MODE is used to evaluate the performance of the proposed algorithm. With the increasing complexity of engineering problems and advances in 3D printing technology, this study demonstrates the applicability of the proposed hybrid approach, finding optimal combinations for the machining process among conflicting objectives regardless of the number of decision variables and goals involved. To measure the performance and to compare the results of metaheuristics used in this study, three Pareto comparison metrics have been utilized to evaluate both the convergence and diversity of the obtained Pareto approximations for each algorithm: hyper-volume (H), g-Indicator (G), and inverted generational distance (IGD). Distributionally Robust Chance-Constrained Optimal Transmission Switching for Renewable Integration

Increasing integration of renewable generation poses significant challenges to ensure robustness guarantees in real-time energy system decision-making. This work aims to develop a robust optimal transmission switching (OTS) framework that can effectively relieve grid congestion and mitigate renewable curtailment. We formulate a two-stage distributionally robust chance-constrained (DRCC) problem that assures limited constraint violations for any uncertainty distribution within an ambiguity set. Here, the second-stage recourse variables are represented as linear functions of uncertainty, yielding an equivalent reformulation involving linear constraints only. We utilize moment-based (mean-mean absolute deviation) and distance-based (∞-Wasserstein distance) ambiguity sets that lead to scalable mixed-integer linear program (MILP) formulations. Numerical experiments on the IEEE 14-bus and 118-bus systems have demonstrated the performance improvements of the proposed DRCC-OTS approaches in terms of guaranteed constraint violations and reduced renewable curtailment. In particular, the computational efficiency of the moment-based MILP approach, which is scenario-free with fixed problem dimensions, has been confirmed, making it suitable for real-time grid operations. Hydroxyapatite (HA) is one of the potential biomaterials used for treating dental defects. It can be incorporated with fluoride to enhance its anti-caries properties, though other properties could be dependent on processing technique. Hence, this study aims to characterize the influence of sintering on the properties of fluoride-added HA derived from eggshells. FTIR and XRD techniques are used to characterize the chemical and crystal structures of the samples, whilst dissolution test is carried out to characterize material degradation in the acidic environment. The results show that sintering increased the crystallinity in both HA and fluoride-add HA (F-HA) samples, which corresponds with the enhanced stability during the dissolution test. Moreover, it is also found that the addition of fluoride could further stabilize the material structure, though the impurities found in all the samples still need to be minimized. These findings suggest that sintering and fluoride addition could potentially enhance anti-caries properties of eggshell-derived HA, which could be beneficial for dental application in future subject to further process optimization and analysis.

In this work it is presented a novel Zero-Current Switching Clamped Current (ZCS-CC) Converter that allows soft-switching for a full-bridge DC/DC Current Source Converter (CSC). The soft-switching is achieved using the inherent stray inductance of the switches and diodes, which forms a resonant tank with the output capacitive filter. This period of resonance occurs in the dead time between the two complementary switches of the full-bridge and is enough for both to be comutated with zero current. It is presented the theoretical foundation that justify its operation as well as the simulation and experimental results.

Supply chain management has become a crucial aspect of the performance of industries and companies as it manages the flow of goods, services, and information in order to fulfil customers need while reducing the total costs. In order to reduce the production total cost, e-procurement is introduced. E-procurement means of reducing cost is by shortening cycle time and create a simpler procurement process. The aim of this research is to develop a vendor management and e-procurement system using the Android platform. The developed system is hoped to be able to even shorten the cycle time, ease vendor selection and provide a more flexible and convenience procurement process. Through data measurement and documentation review, the developed system was tested against these three parameters for their validity. In the end, this research summarizes the test result and conclude based on the test result that those parameters are achieved in the developed vendor management and e-procurement system. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Ternate Basin is located a small volcanic island in the archipelago of North Maluku, Indonesia. This island has very limited water resources and prone to seawater intrusion. This study aims to determine and analyze the distribution of hydrogeological interest points, determine patterns and directions of groundwater flow, and analyze hydrogeochemical quality and groundwater facies. Determination of the free aquifer zone was carried out by geoelectric measurements in 37 points, while the interpretation of confined aquifers was carried out in 17 drill log points. The quality of groundwater was analyzed in the study area, 126 samples were collected and analyzed. The piper diagram was adopted to identify groundwater facies. The determination of groundwater basin with a total recharge of 54,155 million m3/year. The saturated zone of groundwater flow reaches 1.237 million m3/day or 451.712 million m3/year. The quality of groundwater laboratory results indicates that the water from the two aquifer sources is suitable as a source of drinking water with moderate permeability and has met the quality standards. There were three groundwater facies in the study sites consisting of calcium magnesium bicarbonate (C4H4-Ca-MgO12), calcium magnesium chloride (CaCl2-MgCl2) and sodium potassium chloride (NaCL-KCL). Bicarbonate facies type in the groundwater basin indicated localized flow systems. This means the groundwater in the study site has a recharge area close to its groundwater source. Meanwhile, chloride facies type in the groundwater basin indicates a long process of flow pattern and allows the groundwater to interact with seawater or magmatic matters. These results can be used for policymakers to determine the appropriate and accurate location for groundwater exploitation for the public purposes. Determination of the location must be carried out by considering the flow, quantity, and quality of groundwater. © 2022 Science Press. All rights reserved.

Effect of dimples for fluid motion of an elastically supported cylinder at velocities relevant to ducting environment using computational fluid dynamics

This paper discusses the effect of dimpling on an elastic cylinder using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation. The simulation CFD approach is used because it is low-cost. The purpose of this study is to model a cylinder that has three different cylinder surface configurations: smooth cylinder, outwardly dimpled, and inwardly dimpled on half the surface of the cylinder (front). This aims to increase the coefficient lift value of the cylinder and decrease the coefficient drag value in order to utilize it as alternative energy in the cylinder system supported by two beams. Furthermore, the numerical simulation is performed on an elastic cylinder with a velocity of 3.5 m/s and an aspect ratio (L/D) of 5.6. The time-domain responses of force coefficients and structural displacements are converted into frequency-domain responses using the Fast Fourier Transform to characterize the structure responses. The results demonstrate that the cylinder surface is very successful at improving the lift coefficient and decreasing the drag coefficient while maintaining the velocity constant. The time necessary to commence cylinder displacement varies depending on the circumstance. For an inwardly dimpled cylinder, the displacement initiation start time is 0.1 s; for a smooth and outwardly dimpled cylinder, the displacement initiation start time is 0.25 s. The highest vortex shedding frequency lift coefficient is obtained from an inwardly dimpled cylinder, followed by an outwardly dimpled cylinder, while the lowest is a smooth cylinder. While the frequency obtained due to changes in surface variation does not change significantly, which is around 15 Hz.

This paper presents a novel approach for designing reconfiguration blocks for fault hiding of linear systems subject to actuator faults based on the passivity/dissipativity theory. For this purpose, the concept of passivation block is used to design virtual actuators (VAs) which guarantee that the faulty plant achieves the desired passivity indices and consequently the stability. Linear matrix inequalities (LMI)-based conditions are provided for designing the proposed VAs for ensuring the stability recovery for linear systems. Finally, a numerical example is used for assessing the proposed approach.

The complexity and uncertainty in decision making causes supply chains to be more adaptive. In its expansion, the supply chain not only discusses distance and time, but has considered the risks and spatial perspectives. Spatial problems are generally solved by Geographic Information systems (GIS) and Spatial Decision Support systems (SDSS). Both systems provide various types of spatial analysis and visualization tools arranged in a problem-solving framework. The combination of GIS and Artificial Intelligent (AI) has greatly facilitated decision makers regarding data collection and spatial analysis, data manipulation and storage. The objective of this study was proposed to consider the Internet of Things (IoT) by including intelligent systems in existing sets of tools. The contribution of this study, we proposed intelligent system collaboration in SDSS to overcome the limitations of GIS in providing a knowledge base. We recommend that IoT devices namely remote sensing, RFID, and QR code be added to the SDSS to facilitate spatial data mining interpretation and be able to provide more knowledge base support. We offer the concept of Intelligent Spatial Decision Support systems (ISDSS) in the agro-industry supply chain. We recommend various troubleshooting features that are not available in standard statistical methods, including using the Multi Objectives Genetic Algorithm (MOGA). For further research, we suggest this concept can be implemented in agro-industrial logistics. © 2020 IEEE.
