Fire is a major type of disturbance that has important influences on ecosystem dynamics and carbon *** our understanding of ecosystem fires and their carbon cycle consequences is still limited,largely due to the difficulty of large-scale fire monitoring and the complex interactions between fire,vegetation,climate,and anthropogenic ***,using data from satellite-derived fire observations and ecosystem model simulations,we performed a comprehensive investigation of the spatial and temporal dynamics of China’s ecosystem fire disturbances and their carbon emissions over the past two decades(1997–2016).Satellite-derived results showed that on average about 3.47-4.53×10^(4) km^(2) of the land was burned annually during the past two decades,among which annual burned forest area was about 0.81-1.25×10^(4) km^(2),accounting for 0.33-0.51%of the forest area in *** burning emitted about 23.02 TgC per *** to satellite products,simulations from the Energy Exascale Earth System Land Model(ELM)strongly overestimated China’s burned area and fire-induced carbon *** burned area and fire-induced carbon emissions were high for boreal forest in Northeast China’s Daxing’anling region and subtropical dry forest in South Yunnan,as revealed by both the satellite product and the model *** results suggest that climate and anthropogenic factors play critical roles in controlling the spatial and seasonal distribution of China’s ecosystem fire *** findings highlight the importance of multiple complementary approaches in assessing ecosystem fire disturbance and its carbon *** studies are required to improve the methods of observing and modelling China’s ecosystem fire disturbances,which will provide valuable information for fire management and ecosystem sustainability in an era when both human activities and the natural environment are rapidly changing.

Preservations and utilization of culture asset is one out of most discussed issues worldwide, whether it is tangible or intangible cultural asset. The emphasis on inherited human-oriented memories, through influential and important of story-telling is vital. If the cultural asset was being redeveloped and managed inappropriately, it will disengage the main concept of preserving cultural asset, affecting local culture and its historical heritage, which may lead to poor maintenance, or in contrast, an excessive commercialization on cultural assets. Kinmen, offshore island of Taiwan, contains the most cultural asset in Taiwan. It has preserved traditional Minnan tribe culture in their lives and buildings. They work hard to protect, repair, and introduce their culture, letting others experience their ancestor’s smart living and feel the dynamic of local people in passing down their cultural heritage. Alongside its rich cultural heritage, Kinmen has turned from being a "sad heritage" (confrontation, war, and tragedy) into an "inspiring heritage" (reconcile, peace and reborn) and serves as a guidance and an inspiration for us in searching the value of peace. Based on Kinmen’s importance on Minnan cultural heritage and the possible impacts of the gambling industry on cultural assets, this research will be using Kinmen as a study subject and organize its cultural assets by utilizing AHP analysis values with discussion of the gambling industry’s impact;then taking further to drive the diversity of impacts by using FDM analysis. © 2018, Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

We have explored the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) activity of both undoped nickel copper phosphate (NiCuPO) and transition metal-doped NiCuPO-M (M = Mn, Fe, Co) surfaces using periodic density functional theory (DFT)-based calculations. Our findings highlight that while the undoped NiCuPO surface exhibits a high overpotential of 0.98 V, the introduction of transition metal doping remarkably enhances the OER performance, reducing the overpotential to as low as 0.41 V in the Mn-doped case, outperforming the widely used IrO 2 catalyst. This enhancement is primarily due to a favorable shift in the d -band center, which increases O* adsorption strength and decreases the OER overpotential. Among the doped systems, Mn and Fe doping demonstrate the most substantial reductions in overpotential, underscoring their potential as efficient catalysts for OER applications.

industrial robots have been applied to various industrial fields during this four decades, however, it seems that low-cost CAD/CAM interface has not been permeated to robots' users yet. In this paper, an outline font handler is proposed for three types of industrial robots to cope with this problem. Without conventional teaching process and other specialized tools, the handler can produce desired trajectories called CLS (Cutter Location Source) data from outline fonts based on a spline interpolation approach, so that a promising CAD/CAM interface between commercially-provided industrial robots and widely-used design tools such as Illustrator and Photoshop is established. The usefulness and effectiveness are evaluated through simulations and actual drawing, engraving experiments of outline fonts using industrial robots FANUC R2000iC, DENSO VS068 and an engineering education robot DOBOT. © 2018 IEEE.

This work presents an efficient numerical method based on spectral expansions for simulation of heat and moisture diffusive transfers through multilayered porous materials. Traditionally, by using the finite-difference approach, the problem is discretized in time and space domains (Method of lines) to obtain a large system of coupled Ordinary Differential Equations (ODEs), which is computationally expensive. To avoid such a cost, this paper proposes a reduced-order method that is faster and accurate, using a much smaller system of ODEs. To demonstrate the benefits of this approach, tree case studies are presented. The first one considers nonlinear heat and moisture transfer through one material layer. The second case – highly nonlinear – imposes a high moisture content gradient – simulating a rain like condition – over a two-layered domain, while the last one compares the numerical prediction against experimental data for validation purposes. Results show how the nonlinearities and the interface between materials are easily and naturally treated with the spectral reduced-order method. Concerning the reliability part, predictions show a good agreement with experimental results, which confirm robustness, calculation efficiency and high accuracy of the proposed approach for predicting the coupled heat and moisture transfer through porous materials. Multi-objective optimisation is a valuable tool for tuning dynamical systems when simultaneous optimisation performance objectives are in conflict. When the goal is tuning the parameters of a synthetic biology device, mismatch between the model implemented in silico -a more or less coarse simplification of the real system- and the actual in vivo implementation might lead to a disagreement between the in silico and in vivo design objectives for a given solution from the Pareto front. Here, we propose an iterative closed-loop multi-objective optimisation approach where the new information provided by the difference between the in silico Pareto front and its in vivo implementation is used to improve the parametric model. This aims to minimise the discrepancies between in silico and in vivo performance objectives while preserving the trade-off order among solutions. As a proof-of-concept we consider the problem of tuning a synthetic gene circuit used as feedforward-feedback controller for the expression of a protein of interest. We use an extended parametric model of the gene synthetic circuit to represent the in vivo set up and a simplified one for the in silico one.

Project Management Offices (PMOs) are organizational structures in charge of managing and coordinating several simultaneous projects within companies. Due to the complexity of different projects’ objectives, it’s usual to simplify project indicators and control them by means of the well-known triple constraint or “iron triangle”: scope, cost and time. This approach does not account for the organizational strategy, internal and external stakeholders’ interests, nor other specific indicators. The problems due to the lack of integration caused by this oversimplification are yet amplified in complex project portfolios related to technology development and deployment, since in this kind of scenario the marketing competition demands new features, at lower costs, in no time. These points could be addressed by operations management approaches, such as the Performance Management systems Design Framework (PMSDF). To identify the viability and relevance in using this method in PMOs, this work adopts a mixed methods research. Is begins with a Systematic Literature Review to better understand performance management routine and tools in PMO. It was followed by meetings with two project management consultants, to identify the best practices, habits and advises, to check the differences between practitioner and academic views. Finally, it was conducted interviews with the PMO Director of a trucks’ manufacturer and a PMO Manager in an agrarian-cattle-breeding cooperative, to verify how such companies measure their PMO’s successes. The last step was to adapt the PMSDF to the project management context, evaluating the PMO operation in a medium-sized software development company and propose the restructuration of its Performance Management System.

The mechanical properties of cells change with their differentiation,chronological age,and malignant ***,these properties may be useful label-free biomarkers of various functional or clinically relevant cell ***,we demonstrate mechano-node-pore sensing(mechano-NPS),a multi-parametric single-cell-analysis method that utilizes a four-terminal measurement of the current across a microfluidic channel to quantify simultaneously cell diameter,resistance to compressive deformation,transverse deformation under constant strain,and recovery time after *** define a new parameter,the whole-cell deformability index(wCDI),which provides a quantitative mechanical metric of the resistance to compressive deformation that can be used to discriminate among different cell *** wCDI and the transverse deformation under constant strain show malignant MCF-7 and A549 cell lines are mechanically distinct from non-malignant,MCF-10A and BEAS-2B cell lines,and distinguishes between cells treated or untreated with cytoskeleton-perturbing small *** categorize cell recovery time,ΔT_(r),as instantaneous(ΔTr~0 ms),transient(ΔT_(r)≤40 ms),or prolonged(ΔT_(r)>40 ms),and show that the composition of recovery types,which is a consequence of changes in cytoskeletal organization,correlates with cellular *** the wCDI and cell-recovery time,mechano-NPS discriminates between sub-lineages of normal primary human mammary epithelial cells with accuracy comparable to flow cytometry,but without antibody ***-NPS identifies mechanical phenotypes that distinguishes lineage,chronological age,and stage of malignant progression in human epithelial cells.

The learners' needs are an important factor in designing syllabus and materials design, this research deals with the syllabus and material design based on the professional's needs. It is expected that the syllabus and materials designes are communicatively applicable to the professional academy. Descriptive method is applied in this research. The sample of this research is 30 students of ATII Immanuel Academy Medan. They were selected by random sampling to get the data, the questioners were administered to students. the questioners consisted of 54 items and the semi structured interview consisted of 5 questions, the finding indicated that learners' needs were focused on reading and speaking skills. With reference appropriately and proportionally derived for students of the Professional Academy. Further on the basis of the syllabus, materials are designed in which the skills of using language become a priority. Efficient information sharing demands formal information structures in order to make sure the semantic interoperability across different phases of Product Development Process. This research presents an application of reference ontologies to support semantic interoperability during the Product Development Process. The concepts inherent to the product development process are formalized in reference ontologies and these ontologies are specialized according to the specific product data, respecting semantic rules. As a result, the potential benefits and limitations of the ontology-driven interoperability were discussed, contributing to the semantic interoperability field and improving the product and manufacturing design. © 2017 The Authors
