Flight simulators can provide a suitable alternative to real flight, mainly to increase safety through the training of crew, and evaluation data from simulator can be used to validation and certification of aircraft systems. However, it must convey some degree of realism to the user to be effective. For that reason, it is necessary to calibrate the simulator software. Calibration for flight simulation is parameter identification process. The process is formulated as an optimization problem, and it is solved by using a new approach named Multiple Particle Collision Algorithm （MPCA）. Results show a good performance for the employed approach.

This paper describes the application of a low-cost quadrotor testbed in real outdoor flights. Along the text it is discussed how to design a flight control system, including methods for fusing out-of-sequence sensor measurements, for modelling the aircraft and for designing a high level flight controller. To validate the proposed system, some flights were performed, executing the specific tasks of positioning and trajectory tracking. The experimental results, discussed in the text and presented in videos, demonstrate the effectiveness of such a system.

In this paper is presented a proposal for real time data acquisition of signals by means of hybrid simulation. Software models such as protection relays and PMU are implemented to run in Real-Time Simulation environment. The virtual PMU is developed with all requirements to acquire standard IEEE format of Synchrophasors. There are applied signals coming from software models and physical devices such as DAQs and fault recorders. The PMUs serves for monitoring a test system which includes a Wind Park. The examples prepared are studies beginning with the transient electromagnetic, followed of transient stability and responses of protection systems. By this manner we are assessing the capability of the protection schemes and perform transfer trips. As well, virtual measurement provides data of dynamic behavior. This methodology becomes the modern way for getting detailed information for Smart Grid solutions. © 2014 IEEE.

In a recent study (Chen et al., 2014), a location-based service (LAS) system was designed for guiding park-And-ride users. However, in this service system, the formulae developed for evaluating utilities have some discrepancies, which motivated us to discuss the problems associated with weighted average and ordered-weighted average applications in the fields of LASs and ambient intelligence. Currently, patients who undergo extracorporeal blood circulation require regular antithrombotic drugs which cause side-effects. In order to minimize the side-effect, the thrombus needs to be detected in its early stage. In this study, we have investigated the effects of calcium ion on thrombus formation by measuring time variation of the relative resistivity. The visualization of thrombus formation after adding an aqueous solution of calcium chloride (CaCl2) of different concentrations to the blood has been accomplished using electrical resistivity tomography technique. The thrombosis started earlier with relatively large thrombus at the end for increased concentration of calcium ions. © 2014 International Society for industrial Process Tomography.

Onset of nucleate boiling of a droplet when impacted onto hot surface was investigated. Three kinds of surfaces, normal stainless steel (NSS), stainless steel with TiO2 coating (UVN), and stainless steel with TiO2 coating and radiated by ultraviolet ray were employed to examine the effect of wettability. The droplet size was 2.4 mm diameter, and dropped under different We number. The image is generated by high speed camera with the frame speed of 1000 fps. The boiling conditions are identified as natural convection, nucleate boiling, critical heat flux, transition, and film boiling. In the present report, the discussion will be focused on the beginning of nucleate boiling on the droplet. Nucleate boiling occurs when bubbles are generated. These bubbles are probably caused by nucleation on the impurities within the liquid rather than at nucleation sites on the heated surface because the bubbles appear to be in the bulk of the liquid instead of at the liquid-solid interface. In addition, the smaller the contact angle, the fastest the boiling.

The light guide rod (LGR) has been popularly used for the vehicles, and the automobile lamp industries need mass production to match this trend. This paper aims to develop a systemic way to find the best parameters' combination for the LGR, and the parameters are usually restricted (existing October 11, 2012) to some levels and random values. In this paper, the LGR example with two optical performances of illuminance flux and uniformity is to be optimised by use of the real-coded genetic algorithm (RGA) and grey relational analysis (GRA). The illuminance flux and uniformity of the best parameters' combination are obtained and compared with the initial set. Comparisons with Taguchi-Grey can improve 5% of gain and comparisons with Pareto genetic algorithm (PaGA) can improve 1.7% of gain .The combined multi-objective optimisation can save 7% time and it is found that the new proposed method has positive gains in performances. Chronic care manages long-term, progressive conditions, while acute care addresses short-term conditions. Chronic conditions increasingly strain health systems, which are often unprepared for these demands. This study examines the burden of conditions requiring acute versus chronic care, including sequelae. Conditions and sequelae from the Global Burden of Diseases Study 2019 were classified into acute or chronic care categories. Data were analysed by age, sex, and socio-demographic index, presenting total numbers and contributions to burden metrics such as Disability-Adjusted Life Years (DALYs), Years Lived with Disability (YLD), and Years of Life Lost (YLL). Approximately 68% of DALYs were attributed to chronic care, while 27% were due to acute care. Chronic care needs increased with age, representing 86% of YLDs and 71% of YLLs, and accounting for 93% of YLDs from sequelae. These findings highlight that chronic care needs far exceed acute care needs globally, necessitating health systems to adapt accordingly. © 2025. The Author(s).

In a mixed environment of autonomous driverless vehicles and human driven vehicles operating on the same road, identifying intentions of human drivers and interacting with them in a compliant and responsible manner becomes a challenging problem for the driverless vehicles. In this paper, the problem of vehicle interaction at an intersection merging scenario is formulated as an Intention-Aware motion planning problem using the tools from Mixed Observability Markov Decision Process (MOMDP). We utilize the tools from recent intention aware planning framework to demonstrate a merging behavior in the presence of human drivers by trying to infer and act according to the intentions of the human drivers. A driver behavior model for T-junction intersections is developed in order to calculate the probabilistic state transition functions of the MOMDP model. With proposed solution, it is demonstrated that using intention aware planning improves performance in comparison to present time to merge approach by lowering accident probability and intersection navigation duration. The proposed method is tested on a real autonomous vehicle (AV) in the presence of human driven vehicles to validate our approach.

This manuscript aims to investigate the effect of cryogenic in-process cooling via liquid nitrogen on the outcomes of the friction stir processing (FSP) of twin roll cast (TRC) magnesium alloy AZ31B. Friction stir processing was performed on 3mm thick sheets of TRC AZ31B at a wide range of processing parameters. The tool rotational speed was varied between 600 RPM and 2000 RPM while the tool feed rate varied between 75 mm/min and 900 mm/min. Thrust force and torque values were experimentally measured using a 4-component dynamometer. Temperature measurements were monitored during the different tests using Infrared sensors and thermocouples. The microstructure of processed samples was observed using optical microscopy. It was found that thrust force and torque values of the pre-cooled samples were 5% higher than those of the room temperature samples due to the material hardening induced by the cooling effect. Finer and more homogenous microstructure was observed for the pre-cooled samples when compared with samples processed at room temperature. The average grain size of pre-cooled samples was predicted using a relation -previously introduced by the authors- that relate grain size and the Zener-Hollomon parameter for TRC AZ31B. This equation was found to correctly predict grain diameter for in-line cooled FSP AZ31B samples at temperatures lower than room temperature.
