Emotion is a mental condition that appears spontaneously based on self-conscious effort and usually followed by physiological changes. Emotion is especially caused by stimulation. The related information with emotional condition by someone is communicated to all body through ECG. Therefore, it is important to conduct a research in analysis of emotion based on the measurement of ECG. Data emotion was categorised according to the stimulation that had been given to the subject by using video and music as long as ECG recorded. ICA method analysis with FastICA algorithm could be developed to obtain emotion feature. Feature classification was based on statistical approach from the independent component with higher of kurtosis value. The proposed method in classification was based on decision tree using Random Forest algorithm. The classification result shows that the emotional recognition based on ECG signals can be well implemented by system. The developed method successfully classifies the emotional condition from ECG signals. The method achieves the accuracy of 92.2% for identification of neutral emotion, 93.9% for negative emotion and 92.1% for positive emotion. The value of ICSI is obtained about 81.2% for neutral conditions, 88.3% for negative emotions and 85.1% for positive emotions, it means that the system is successfully to classify individually and effective for overall. © 2014 IEEE.

Speciation and bioavailability of some heavy metals in agricultural soils used for cultivating various vegetables in Bedugul, Bali

This paper discusses the speciation and bioavailability of some heavy metals in agricultural soils used to cultivate various vegetables in Bedugul, Bali. Vegetables grown on contaminated soils where agrochemicals were applied uncontrolled could contain a number of heavy metals. This could occur in the vegetables produced from agricultural soils of Bedugul as the farmers applied agrochemicals excessively. In considering the metals transport to the vegetables, a speciation and bioavailability methods were necessary to be studied. Wet digestion and sequential extraction techniques were employed to the sample prior to the metals measurement by AAS. The results showed that the average concentrations of Pb, Cu, Cd, Cr, and Zn in the soils were 38.531, 132.126, 7.689, 15.952, and 147.275 mg/kg, respectively. The highest concentrations of Pb and Zn were found in the soil for cultivating lettuce, Cd and Cr in the soil for tomato, and Cu in the soil for potatoes. It was found that the speciation of Pb, Cu, Cd, and Cr were predominantly bound to Fe-Mn oxides fraction, while Zn was mostly associated with the EFLE (easily, freely, leachable, and exchangeable) fractions. The highest bioavailability among the metals in the studied soils was Cr, while the lowest was Cu.

Analysis of Mw 7.2 2014 Molucca Sea earthquake and its aftershocks

A Mw 7.2 earthquake struck an area in the Molucca Sea region on November 15, 2014, and was followed by more than 300 aftershocks until the end of December 2014. This earthquake was the second largest event in the Molucca Sea during the last decade and was well recorded by local networks. Although the seismicity rate of the aftershocks was declining at the end of 2014, several significant earthquakes with magnitude (Mw) larger than five still occurred from January to May 2015 within the vicinity of the mainshock location. In this study, we investigated the earthquake process and its relation to the increasing seismicity in the Molucca Sea within six months after the earthquake. We utilized teleseismic double-difference hypocenter relocation method using local, regional, and teleseismic direct body-wave arrival times of 514 earthquakes from the time of mainshock occurrence to May 2015. Furthermore, we analyzed the focal mechanism solutions from the National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Prevention (NIED), Japan. From our results, we observed that aftershocks propagated along the NNE-SSW direction within a 100 km fault segment length of the Mayu Ridge. The highest number of the aftershocks was located in the SSW direction of the main event. The aftershocks were terminated at around 60 km depth, which may represent the location of the top of the Molucca Sea Plate (MSP). Between January and May 2015, several significant earthquakes propagated westward and were extended to the Molucca Sea slab. From focal mechanism catalog, we found that the mainshock mechanism was reverse with strike 192o and dip 55o. While most of the large aftershock mechanisms were consistent with the main event, several aftershocks had reverse, oblique mechanisms. Stress inversion result from focal mechanism data revealed that the maximum stress direction was SE and was not perpendicular with fault direction. Wireless Mesh Network (WMN) relies in routing protocols for route discovery from sender to receiving nodes. There are two routing protocols that are evaluated: Hybrid Wireless Mesh Protocol (HWMP) and Optimized Link State Routing (OLSR). Packet delivery is very crucial in telecommunication. Data rate of connections relate closely with the performance of packet delivery in telecommunication especially WMN. HWMP and OLSR have different mechanisms of route discovery which are affected by the changes of data rate of connections and can affect the packet delivery of data. This experiment focuses in evaluating the performance of both protocols under different conditions of data rate of connections. The objective of this experiment is to evaluate the performance of both protocols and find the relevancy between the results of simulations and theories of the mechanism of both protocols. All of the simulations are done with using Network Simulator Version 3. The simulations are done for more than 100 times in order to get the consistency of the results of simulations and to evaluate the natural behaviors of both protocols.

The geophysical exploration method is the superior over the project area due to the dense of vegetation and thick soil so very limited geological outcrops. Contrast of physical properties of every different rock type should be able to be distinguished by the geophysical data. Fuzzy logic approach and weight of evidence were used for geophysical data modeling. Posterior probability was used to calculate the weight of evidence (WofE) of every fuzzy map memberships. By combining each rock type model, the model provides better result compared from the model from mixed rock type on the data training. This method is able to eliminate the potential interference of different geophysical signature. So that, the understanding the geological feature of the area is key success for the mineral prosperity modeling. We verified the model by site visiting and drilling and it is estimated about 90% confident.

This study aimed to make and analyze the quality of activated coconut shell charcoal briquette dust in the water purification for some types of water sources according to density, biodegradable iodine(I2) absorption, and water turbidity. The method involved calculating the density and I2, as well as turbidimetry to measure the turbidity of the water sources. Results showed that the activated charcoal briquette dust met Indonesian quality standards(SNI) with a density of 0.45 g/m L(SNI 0.45–0.48 g/m L) and I2 absorption of 885 mg/g(SNI ≥750 mg/g). In the purification of several types of water sources, turbidimetry used on samples of murky water without soaking the briquettes produced results of 87 NTU(control samples) and bottled drinking water samples of 0.03 NTU. After being immersed for up to 30 min in several types of water, activated charcoal briquette dust produced a turbidity of 3.01 NTU in well-drilled water, 3.03 NTU in river water, and 3.07 NTU in pond water. Results suggest activated charcoal briquette dust can therefore lower the turbidity of drinking water according to SNI standards(0.01–5.00 NTU).

Biogas Production in the Anaerobic Digestion of Paper Sludge

Pulp and paper industry generates large quantity of sludge, up to 1 m 3 /ton paper produced. Anaerobic digestion (AD) is a potential treatment to stabilize sludge and produce biogas for renewable energy. The aim of this study was to investigate the potential of AD of paper sludge (PS) generated from primary and secondary wastewater treatment and to compare the effect of cow manure to paper sludge. For the reactor with PS only, biogas production was observed starting on the 5 th day with 6.3% of methane with a steady increase. The cumulative methane yield attained to 14.7 ml/g volatile solid (VS) until day 28. The second reactor containing PS and cow manure produced methane 269 ml/g VS until day 28. This study shows a more optimal AD process of paper sludge mixed with cow manure due to a more optimum C/N ratio and also higher VS.
