This investigative research aims to convert urban non-organic waste fuels such as plastic waste into energy using fixed bed pyrolysis technology. Pyrolysis fixed bed (PFB) is one of the most efficient technologies for converting various types of undegradable solid waste into thermal energy and liquid fuels with high efficiency. The study was conducted on a lab-scale PFB reactor with dimensions of 15 cm and 55 cm in diameter and bed height respectively. The reactor is equipped with a cooling and decomposition system to accommodate liquid and gas products. Reactor temperature variations using an external heater were tested and quartz sands were selected as a bed material to improve the temperature function of the PFB reactor so as the maximum quality and quantity of liquid product were obtained. The fuel properties of the derived oil were tested including their physical properties, calorific value, elemental measurement (CHNOS) analysis. The results of the study showed that the increase in temperature resulted in an increased pyrolysis performance which was indicated by the increased volume and liquid caloric value. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

An analysis of the damage level and reconstruction priority of elementary school buildings in the Central Lombok District

In Central Lombok District, the allocation of funds for the rehabilitation of elementary schools is very small compared to the number of schools that need reconstruction. The percentage of classroom rehabilitation work based on the target schools only reached 9.96%. Consequently, it needs to study to analyze the damage level of buildings and find out the most influenced criteria in formulating decisions for selecting school priorities that must be rehabilitated. Due to controlled aspects and standards are quite a lot and more sophisticated, accordingly the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) method is the proper method for solving these complex problems. The sample in this study was 13 of the 25 schools that received special funds in 2018. The application of the AHP method was preceded by a survey involving experts who were competent in their fields. The results showed that the number of schools with moderate damage was six and severely damaged as many as seven schools. At the same time, based on the order of priority, building repairs are determined by the most influential criteria, namely the level of damage and primary education data.

Characteristics of microwave-assisted pyrolysis of palm kernel shell

The research aims to investigate the kinetic characteristic of microwave-assisted pyrolysis of palm kernel shells using microwave output power (800, 600, 450, and 300 watts). The research consists of three steps; thermogravimetry analysis, microwave-assisted pyrolysis, and kinetic study analysis. This research showed that increased output power affected the decreasing activated energy, increased heating rate, and accelerated pyrolysis. The findings showed that microwave output power significantly affected kinetic characteristics and the production yield of microwave-assisted pyrolysis. Microwave-assisted pyrolysis ran optimally at 800, 600, and 450 watts but had not yet entirely run at 300 watts. The shells produced high solid products because they had a high lignin content (38.76 wt.%). The shell had a volatile matter content of 67.84 wt. %. Analysis using GC-MS showed that the liquid product contains an aromatic compound which was acetic acid and phenol.

In the context of bioelectrochemical systems (BES), a profound understanding of the taxonomic composition within indigenous microbial communities is crucial. Their metabolic versatility assumes a foundational role in dictating the functionality of BES, yielding diverse applications for bioenergy production and bioremediation in anthropogenically impacted estuaries. Employing high-throughput sequencing of the V3-V4 region of 16S rRNA and predictive metagenomic analyses of three different estuaries samples (eutrophicated urban reservoir, mud volcano impacted river, and its river mouth), this study delves into the intricate interplay between these communities and their metabolic functions in response to human-induced perturbations, with a specific focus on their applicability to BES. Our findings illuminate remarkable distinctions among the three samples, manifesting in variations in microbial composition and functional metabolic pathways within the respective ecosystems. The mud volcano-affected river, characterized by the highest microbial diversity, exhibited the most diverse array of functional metabolic processes, prominently dominated by chemoheterotrophy (67.43%). In contrast, the river mouth displayed a distinct penchant for autotrophy (33.33%). The eutrophicated urban reservoir showcased a balanced coexistence of chemoheterotrophy (41.18%) and autotrophy (35.29%). Regarding metabolic potential for BES application, most of metabolism potential were associated with anodic activity, while cathodic activity was restricted to autotrophy and its relatives. The results suggested that the microbial communities anthropogenically impacted estuaries were potentially used for anodic and cathodic reactions in BES as electrogens to generate bioelectricity and reduce of pollutants. © 2024

The concept of green building helps reduce the effects of global warming, and the availability of long-term natural resources and increases the service life of buildings as well as the use of Greenship as a rating system for its achievement. The effects of the Covid-19 pandemic and the increasing role of digital have made people no longer work in offices but have moved to cafes so that more and more cafes have switched or added functions to become cafes and co-working spaces, resulting in the need for adjustments to the construction and interior of buildings as well as additional services. To attract more visitors, a unique concept of transformation of local culture is needed. Local culture is born from local wisdom and in harmony with nature. This touch of local wisdom values can enhance the image. Local cultural potential in the form of Sasak bale architecture can be represented in the construction and interior of cafes and co-working spaces and utilizes local materials. This is in line with the initial goal of implementing green buildings in cafes and co-working spaces that are modern and minimalist but have local wisdom values. This design is a way of preserving local culture.

Optimum wellhead pressure selection in the Hululais geothermal field

The Hululais field, a geothermal field under the management of PT Pertamina Geothermal Energi, will build 2 x 55 Mwe. The first stage is to build 1x55 Mwe, by selecting a certain wellhead pressure from the output curve to be able to fulfill the first phase of development. Researchers try to calculate in order to meet the needs of the first stage by calculating the decrease in fluid enthalpy which is a function of fluid pressure and temperature, the pressure loss profile is obtained from the Beggs and Brill equations and the temperature loss profile from the energy balance law, using two-dimensional Newton Rapson mathematical manipulation, to get pressure and temperature drops simultaneously in a pipe segment. While exergy is useful energy, by looking at the exergy at the wellhead, at the output of the steam separator and the turbine input, the optimum choice of the exergy plot for the three points, the sloping line is chosen. Besides, the power that can be generated by the generator is a function of the enthalpy and mass of the steam. The optimum results are: wellhead pressure C-1, 18.34 bar, E-1 wellhead pressure 18.34 bar, wellhead pressure E-2 has a pressure of 12.26 bar. Two-phase pipes use 16 in to 28 in, on single-phase steam pipes use a diameter of 16 inches to 36 inches, all pipes are coated with 8 cm insulation, using rockwooll insulation, on two-phase pipes, the magnitude of the pressure loss is 0.623 bar, the temperature drop is 1,9083 °C, The distance between the separator and turbine varies, the farthest is 6460 m, the closest is 1824 m. Until the turbine inlet, the incoming steam mass is 94.01 kg/s, the pressure is 8.45 bar, the temperature is 177.4 °C, the exergy price in the turbine is 76.77 MWth, the power that can be generated is 56.431Mwe.

Postharvest technologies of celery (Apium graveolens L.) into powder: A comparison of conventional and modern methods

Celery or Apium graveolens L. is a plant that belongs to the Apiaceae family. The leaves are wide with a pinnately lobed shape. Celery contains an abundance of antioxidants and vitamins including flavonoids, saponins, tannins, apiin, apigenin, choline, asparagine, vitamins A, B, C, and essential oil. Due to its high antioxidants and vitamins, celery has a high potential as a functional food source. However, despite the nutritional benefit, celery has a short shelf-life which only lasted for 2-3 days. Turning celery into powder is an alternative postharvest technology to extend its shelf life and preserve its nutritional content. The overall antioxidants and vitamins are varied depending on the drying treatment of the postharvest technology. Therefore, this research studies the effect of the drying treatment of postharvest technologies on the antioxidants and vitamins of celery The observed drying treatments were dehydration and tray drying as modern methods and sun drying as a conventional method. Different drying temperatures were observed and optimized. The dehydration method at 50°C was found to be the optimum method and the drying temperature. The celery powder produced from the dehydration method at 50°C showed high antioxidant and vitamin C contents, 50.8 µg/ml and 426.27 mg/100 gram, respectively.

Grain size effect on tensile and flexural strength of particulate composites reinforced with Acropora waste

The engineering materials for the construction of cars, ships, planes and other are still dominated by metal materials. However, in recent years the use of metal has begun to decrease and replaced by non-metallic materials such as ceramic and composites. The advantages of ceramic and composite materials compared to metals are good mechanical properties, corrosion resistance, and lower density. Recently the use of composites tends to change from synthetic fiber composites to natural fiber composites because the composite waste of natural fibers is easily decomposed after unused. In this study, the fibers used as a reinforcement of composites were replaced by particulate of Acropora waste. The aims of this study were to obtain baseline data for further development of applied research, in particular, the mechanical properties of composites that will be used as materials for automotive components, such as door panels, dashboards, and seat backs. This study used unsaturated polyester as the matrix, methyl ethyl ketone peroxide as a hardener, with the fibers from the waste of Acropora reefs. The composites were produced by press hand lay-up techniques, with the variation of particulate grain size of 40, 100, and 200 mesh, meanwhile the particulate weight fraction was kept 30% (w/w). The results showed that maximum tensile strength about 23 MPa reached at particulate grain size 100 mesh. Maximum flexural strength around 89 MPa occurred at particulate grain size 40 mesh

This study aims to understand the willingness of urban communities in Jabodetabek (Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, Bekasi) to move to apartment dwellings, and a study was conducted using a quantitative survey method. The study aimed to analyze the sociodemographic factors influencing the decision to switch to vertical housing. The survey collected data from a sample of individuals representing the entire population in Jabodetabek. The participants in the study were selected from various locations within Jabodetabek, including Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi. These areas were chosen to comprehensively represent the metropolitan region and its urban communities. By including participants from different locations within Jabodetabek, the study aimed to capture individuals' diverse perspectives and experiences in this region. The survey covered a range of sociodemographic factors such as gender, income, education level, marital status, occupancy, and residence ownership. The participants were divided into two groups: those willing to pay for an apartment and those who wereilling to pay for an apartment and those not. By comparing the characteristics of these two groups, the study aimed to identify significant differences and understand the factors influencing the willingness to move to apartment dwellings. The study results showed significant differences in income level, education level, marital status, and occupancy between the two groups. Income level was the most significant factor affecting an individual's willingness to pay for an apartment. Additionally, the perception of better apartment productivity, which includes reduced transportation time and costs associated with work or other business purposes, increased the demand for apartments. Processing of metal wastes for high damping metal composite

The material of aluminum and the gray cast iron are widely used, so that also produce a large scale of waste from the manufacturing processes. In relation with supporting the global program of sustainable recycling-oriented society, the waste of aluminium and gray cast iron chips will be utilized in this research to become a valuable, functional and useful material. The waste of gray cast iron chips and aluminum chips were used in this research. Three compositions were provided in this research namely, composition of Al chips with addition 0, 20, and 40 vol.% of gray cast iron chips. The process was initiated by compacting the chips to become a billet with 70 mm length and 60 mm in diameter. The hot extrusion was carried out at 400°C with pressure at 500 Ton. The lubricant that was used at the die was MoS 2 , mean while the graphite colloid was utilized as lubricant at main cylinder of extrusion. Final diameter of the product was 15 mm. The process then was continued with swaging the specimens. The process of swaging was done following 3 steps in room temperature, initiated by swaging from 15 mm to become 14 mm, continued by swaging until reach 12.5 mm and finally by swaging the specimen until reach 11 mm in diameter. The hammering vibration test then was carried out to obtain the damping capacity of the specimen with length of the specimen at 150 mm and 11 mm in diameter. For specimen with composition 0% gray cast iron, the value of damping capacity (α) is found 45[s -1 ]. For specimen with composition 20% gray cast iron, the value of damping capacity is found 61 [s -1 ]. The damping capacity for the specimen with composition 40% gray cast iron is found very hight that reach up to 90 [s -1 ]
