Plastic waste has become the most significant component of marine debris, while research on traces of marine plastic waste related to the condition of Indonesian waters is still limited. Therefore, this study examines the movement patterns of plastic marine debris in Indonesian waters. Simulations were carried out for one year (2013) using the HAMSOM hydrodynamic and Lagrange trajectory. The approach treated the simulated particles as conservative particles floating at sea. Even though the percentage is small (±16%), Indonesia contributes to transboundary marine debris in the Pacific Ocean, Indian Ocean, and the South China Sea due to the influence of the south equatorial currents moving from north and south of Indonesia. Most of the plastic marine debris remains in Indonesian waters (±80-84%) and moves back and forth due to the influence of the monsoon currents. Therefore, the Java Sea becomes a crossing point and accumulates plastic marine debris. © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Tangkuban Perahu and nearby volcano-hosted geothermal prospects are believed to be important for future power generation in West Java, Indonesia. Recharge areas of these prospects and geothermal fluid evolution are not yet fully understood. The objectives of this investigation are to describe the fluid origin, processes, and evolution of geothermal fluids in relation to the recharge and the conceptual model of the Tangkuban Perahu Geothermal Systems (TPGS). The investigation involved sampling and analysis of geothermal waters, rainwater, and gases collected in fumaroles and other manifestations around the TPGS. Isotopic results of δ18O and δ2H collected from thermal and rainwater indicate deep-circulating meteoric origin, at an infiltration altitude ranges between 753-850 m in low terrain. Meanwhile, the high-standing terrain indicates the recharge zone to be within the wall of the Sunda Caldera and mountain slopes. Chondrite normalized patterns reveal an overall flat trendline that suggests the enrichment of Lower Rare Earth Elements (LREEs) in the central part of Tangkuban Perahu which is derived from the magmatic influx. The non-atmospheric gases origin was diagnosed by the lower N2/Ar (≤ 38) and is characterized of meteoric origin. The positive δ18O shifts from Ciater (CT), Batu Gede (BG), and Domas crater (KwD) geothermal waters samples comparatively to local meteoric lines are influenced by the interaction with wall rocks or magmatic influx. In these geothermal systems, the meteoric water infiltrated to the depth is heated, mixed with near-surface water, and followed by partial discharge as thermal springs along faults. © 2022, The Authors. Mangrove forests have an important function in human life that cannot be replaced by other functions. The existence of mangrove forests has six main functions, namely biological, ecological, physical, social, economic and chemical functions. This article discusses the description of mangrove forest management in meeting the needs of the economic and social functions of the fishing communities on the coast of Merauke Regency, Papua Province, which were reviewed descriptively using relevant literature studies. In terms of economic function, mangrove forests provide economic value for fishing communities because mangrove forests become habitat for crabs, fish and other marine biota that are captured and sold as the main source of family income. In addition, the use of mangrove forests by fishermen on the coast is used as firewood and building materials. The high utilization of mangrove forests by coastal communities that ignores ecological sustainability causes damage to mangrove forests that threatens the sustainability of ecological functions. Damage to mangrove forests in Merauke in the period 2000-2005 was recorded as wide as 2,416 ha while in the 2005-2010 period damage reached 2,233 ha of the total area of the Merauke mangrove forest which reached 216,001.95 Ha or 6.98% of the Merauke forest area. Based on this, the management of mangrove forest utilization needs to get more attention from various parties so that the ecological function of mangrove forests as a condition of sustainable development, especially for fishing communities on the coast, can be realized in Merauke Regency. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

The spatial phenomenon of Kin's settlements in the UNNES campus area: study of activities and the meaning of spaces

The development of campuses on the outskirts of the city is forming new satellite cities, including the Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES) expanding its new campus in Sekaran Village, Gunungpati sub-district. The existence of this campus has a major impact on regional development, and affects land use. The characteristics of the countryside with local wisdom still seem to color the socio-cultural life of the people of Sekaran, and also affect the space and environment of the settlements where they live. This phenomenon indicates that there is a strong kinship among the sedentary groups. This study aims to: (1) explore the spatial phenomenon of kin's settlements; (2) revealing the activities and meaning of spaces. In order to achieve the objectives, this research uses a phenomenological approach. The results of the study illustrate that the setting of kins settlements is formed by internal aspects, namely: the location of inheritance land, orientation between dwellings, access between dwellings, kin's activities and the influence of the UNNES Campus which encourages the formation of new functions in kin's settlements that have economic value. The existence of space and activities together strengthens the meaning of shared space in kin's settlements.

Recent borehole seismic deployments conducted along the Baribis Fault in northwestern Java reveal that it may be active. In this study, we exploit these data to locate proximal earthquakes using a relative relocation technique, estimate their moment magnitudes using a spectral fitting method and compute their focal mechanisms via waveform inversion. We observe that seismicity in the eastern part of the fault is significantly higher than in the west, where a previous GPS study of the region south of Jakarta demonstrated the existence of high compression rates. These observations imply that the western Baribis Fault is locked, and that neighbouring areas, including southern Jakarta and its surroundings, may be highly vulnerable to future sizeable earthquakes when accumulated elastic strain energy is eventually released during fault rupture. Significantly, the current generation of Indonesia's national hazard maps have not considered seismicity along the Baribis Fault. Our new results therefore call for an urgent reappraisal of the seismic hazard in northwestern Java that carefully takes into account the Baribis Fault and its earthquake potential, particularly in light of its proximity to Jakarta, a megacity that lies at the heart of one of the most densely populated islands in the world.

The studies of bioethanol production are being intensively explored over the past years in the provision of biofuel. This has been long recognized as the best alternative for a renewable energy resource to overcome the problem of the depletion of fossil resources. Indonesia's main agricultural sector, sugarcane industry, has shown promise in supplying sugarcane bagasse (SCB) as a feedstock for the second generation of bioethanol production. In this study, the techno-economic analysis of the sugarcane bagasse from the bioethanol production plant was explored, and the viability of bioethanol production based on the biomass generated from a local sugarcane factory was evaluated. All the costs that will be incurred during a 20-year operating period for a 203 ktons bioethanol production plant from SCB is $231 million, with a payback period of 6.19 years. The potential amount of bioethanol produced from SCB of this plant is 30.19 ML/year with the production cost (levelized cost of bioethanol, LCOB) of $0.59 per liter of ethanol produced. Overall, SCB bioethanol still carries better competitiveness at lower selling price in comparison with the latest price regulation by the Indonesian government ($0.85/L). © 2023, The Authors. Seasonal variations in sediment characteristics at the estuary of Bengawan Solo river: A study of river branching and flow velocity influences

This research investigates the dynamic of sediment deposition in estuaries, focusing on the role of river branching and flow velocity, aspects that have not been comprehensively studied before. The study assesses the variation in sediment deposition characteristics before and after a river branch over a year. Monthly bed sediment samples were taken for a period of one year, which included both the monsoon and dry season and were tested using sieve analysis for sediment classification. Flow velocity, previously modelled using HEC-RAS, was considered when evaluating sediment deposition patterns. Preliminary findings reveal a marked seasonal variation in sediment characteristics. During the monsoon season, sediments upstream of the river branch predominantly comprised medium-to fine-grained material. Conversely, downstream of the river branch, a similar sediment texture was observed primarily during the dry season. It is concluded that while the river branch plays a substantial role in dictating sediment deposition characteristics, the impact of flow velocity must also be acknowledged. This research, therefore, adds a new dimension to the understanding of sediment deposition patterns and characteristics in estuaries, particularly the interactive influence of seasonal variations, river branching and flow velocity. This can have important implications for estuarine ecosystem management and sediment-related hazard prediction.

This research is an approach to intelligent vehicles with a LoRa communication system, LoRaWAN compatible for Long-Range and Outdoor Communication, but in this paper, we will test the ability of LoRa to handle autonomous vehicles, a Blind-Adaptive Data method will be tried on vehicles systems. The system offered is when the vehicle is running, the sensor will send position data in real-time, the number of vehicles is four, and GPS data is sent alternately using the Blind Adaptive Data Rate principle to avoid data collisions, and when the GPS shows a certain position, the value of SF is ascertained, which affects the data rate and ToA, and the output given is RSSI on each car, speed of a car, power consumption of sensor nodes, signal power, SNR, Bit rate or data rate, and sensitivity. With the Blind ADR principle, it is ensured that there is no data collision between car position data that causes packet loss.

This research aims to help the user monitor their heart’s condition and notify other people in case of an emergency due to an abnormal heartbeat (normal heartbeat around 60-100 beats per minute). From the heart rate graph, the user could do a consultation with an expert in the nearest hospital using a map feature that will show the nearest hospital with a 1 KM radius from the user’s current location. The heart is undeniably an essential part of the human body system. The heart's missions are to pump blood to the lungs to expel the waste carbon dioxide that resulted from the respiration and pump blood that will deliver oxygen throughout the human body's circulation system. While the blood that carries oxygen being pumped throughout the human body, the heart will provide the oxygen to all cells. Body cells need to use oxygen to get the energy from food through a process called cellular respiration. Monitoring our heartbeat and pulse rate can increase people’s awareness about their heart’s health, motivating, and encouraging people to maintain a healthy eating plan and exercise. This research will be implemented ECG Sensor. The sensor will then send the data to the android application via HC-06 Bluetooth module. Monitoring the heart rate and analyzing the user’s heartbeat will be done in the android with a microcontroller device's help. © 2020 IEEE.

The need for quick analysis for road pavement survey is inevitable, especially in a developing country. A new data collection method by using small format photo, which is recorded by drone is developed. The function of drone is not only for photographic purposes, but also developed to measure and record road damage. Digital aerial photogrammetric methods are developed faster than before. A small format areal imagery based on pixel size is developed for this study, so that the degree of road damage can be obtained quickly. In order to obtain a maximum pixel size to detect a maximum damage level of 1 cm, the shooting is done at a height of 24 m drone from the road surface. The result of road damage measured by measuring distance through image is then tested based on the measured sample, directly in the field with a trust level of 97.83%. These results show that the accuracy of road damage measurements made above high resolution photo images is very effective for data collection of road damage. Analysis of Condition Priority can be obtained in one day in complement with contour map and road level, while in previous time it is done within a week without contour map and level. © 2019 IOP Publishing Ltd.
