Simulation of arrow-shaped micromixer with obstacles in blood plasma mixing

In recent years, several applications of micromixers have been reported to have a number of advantages, including the use of small amounts of plasma, short reaction times, and good reaction efficiency. The samples analyzed in this study were blood plasma and distilled water. The process is carried out by passive mixing which is based on a microchannel structure to enhance the diffusion of molecules for efficient mixing. The arrow shape was chosen as the micromixer design because it has a better blending performance than the T and Y shapes. The types of obstacles also used to improve the mixing process. The simulation was carried out on COMSOL Multiphysics software version 5.6. The results showed better mixing results for the micromixer design with triangle right facing obstacles with the highest Reynolds number was 9.4326. Then followed by ellips obstacles with a value of 9.4322, then without obstacles that is 9.4309, after that the triangle left facing with a value of 9.4006, and finally the lowest Reynolds number is a design with a diamond obstacles of 9.2514.

Wastewater containing synthetic dyes poses a critical environmental hazard, necessitating the development of effective treatment techniques. Despite its promise as a photocatalyst, TiO2′s inability to efficiently absorb visible light limits its practical use. To overcome this limitation, oxygen vacancy (OV) engineering was carried out in TiO2 through solvothermal at temperatures of 150°C, 180°C, and 210°C. Comprehensive analyses confirmed a temperature-induced increase in crystallinity and OV concentration. Furthermore, photoluminescence analysis revealed mid-gap states that improve visible light absorption. Notably, the T150 sample achieved 93.43% degradation of methylene blue within 3 h under sunlight, outperforming commercial TiO2. The superior performance was attributed to a reduced bandgap energy, enhanced charge carrier separation, and increased generation of reactive oxygen species, all facilitated by an optimal concentration of OV. This study clarifies the interaction between photoluminescence and photocatalytic activity, highlighting OV engineering as a highly effective strategy for developing advanced TiO2-based materials for wastewater treatment. © 2025 Elsevier B.V.

This study presents an investigation of chemical and physical characterization, green process analysis, techno-economic considerations, and carbon emissions for synthesizing metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) from plastic and can waste using microwave-assisted synthesis. The microwave-assisted synthesis proves to be more cost-effective, with a reduction in CO₂ emissions by up to 80%. The synthesized material (MIL-Mw-U) demonstrates excellent performance in methylene blue (MB) removal, achieving 98.41% removal, with 97.87% removal although the catalyst is used in the third cycle. The adsorption of methylene blue (MB) onto MIL-Mw-U achieved a maximum capacity of 295.26 mgg⁻¹ at pH 3 and decreased to 258.68 mgg⁻¹ at pH 11 due to OH⁻ competition. The Langmuir isotherm (R² = 0.9381) and pseudo-second-order kinetics (R² = 0.999) confirmed monolayer chemisorption as the dominant mechanism. This innovative approach supports circular economy principles by converting can and plastic bottle waste into functional material for dye removal, offering sustainable solutions for environmental challenges. © 2025 The Authors

Aim of this research is to analyze the mechanical properties and microstructure of wear resistance steel plates joined by Submerged Arc Welding at different grooves welding. The welding current of 300 Ampere, voltage of 28 Volt and travel speed of 38 cm/min was applied. The microscopical examination methods were used for weld zones. Impact toughness and rockwell hardness test were obtained from the weld metal, heat affected zone and the base metal samples. The fracture surfaces were examined by using optical microscope. As results, there was no difference of hardness and microstructure among three grooves welding. The significant differences were detected at the weld zones. Base metal had the highest hardness value. Ferrite and pearlite phases were obtained at three weld zones, but the heat affected zone had coarser grain structure than the base metal. Weld metal volume and electrode length significantly affected the impact toughness of joint, where the larger of the weld metal volume and length of electrode fill in the groove welding, the higher of impact toughness. The lowest impact energy and toughness value were attained at V groove and the highest was at I groove. The fracture surfaces at all groove welds showed ductile fracture dominantly. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Excessive vibrations on the floor slabs have an impact on the emergence of feelings of anxiety, worrying about the collapse of the building. From the results of visual observations, it was found that there is damage to the floor covering. This strongly indicates that there is a problem of deflection of the slab and/or floor beams, so this study is aimed at identifying the factors causing excessive vibrations on the floor slab, and recommending strategies and techniques for handling them. For this reason, the calculation of the frequency value of the floor plate vibration due to a combination of fixed and temporary loads acting on the building concerned. It was found that the natural fundamental frequency value of the existing slab is less than the standardized value i.e., 7.5 Hz. In addition, from the horizontal and vertical configuration of the building’s structural elements, it is known that the area of the floor slab that experiences excessive vibration is greater than 12 m2 so that the selected form of reinforcement is the addition of a structural column in the middle of the span of the main beam that supports the floor slab. Furthermore, a simulation of the calculation of the stability of the structure after the addition of the column is carried out. The simulation results show that the natural fundamental frequency value becomes greater than 7.5 Hz, i.e., 8,539 Hz. This proves that the excessive vibration on the floor slab is caused by a floor area that is too large so that the addition of a supporting column in the middle of the span of the main beam supporting the floor slab is proven to be able to eliminate excessive vibration.

Kelase is an E-learning program that has been applied in the Agricultural Technology Education (PTP), especially in the Toxicology and Food Safety courses. This study aims to analyze application and acceptance of PTP students to Kelase, as well as variable correlation and linearity used in the Technology Accepted Model (TAM) method. The independent variables in this study consisted of variables perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness, while the observation variable was acceptance. Techniques for collecting data through giving questionnaires. The questionnaire instrument was tested for its validity and reliability. Data measurement scale uses Likert scale. Data processing uses IBM SPSS 20.0 software. The results show that level of perception of PTP student admissions is very high, which is between 70.1-91%. The correlation of TAM variable is significant and positive. Both variables, perceived ease of use (X1) and perceived usefulness (X2), are very influential on acceptance (Y) and both of these variables simultaneously influence the level of student acceptance of Kelase. The regression determination coefficient is generated, which is 52%. These results indicate that the influence of variables perceived ease of use (X1) and perceived usefulness (X2) is only 52%, and the rest, which is 48% influenced by other variables. © 2019 IOP Publishing Ltd. Rhinacathin nasutus, commonly found in the tropical regions of Africa and Asia, has demonstrated a range of pharmacological effects, including anticancer, antifungal, anti-inflammatory, anti-Alzheimer, anti-tumor, anti-Parkinson, and hypolipidemic activities. However, reports on how its secondary metabolites inhibit α-glucosidase are scarce. The phytochemical investigation on the stems of Rhinacathin nasuthus resulted in the isolation and identification of a new compound (1) together with nine known metabolites (2−10). Their structures were elucidated by spectroscopic techniques, mass spectrometry and literature values. The absolute configuration of 1 was determined through NOESY data analysis and electronic circular dichroism (ECD) spectroscopy. All isolated compounds were tested for their yeast α-glucosidase inhibitory activity, exhibiting moderate to good activity. Notably, compounds (3), (4), and betulin (8) showed potent activity toward α-glucosidase with IC50 values of 10.8, 18.6, and 6.5 µM, respectively (the positive control, acarbose, IC50 93.63 μM). This study marks the first investigation of α-glucosidase activity for compounds 3 and 4. Therefore, these compounds were chosen for kinetic studies, molecular docking, and molecular dynamics to understand their mechanism. The results from both in vitro and in silico studies suggest that compounds 3 and 4 could be promising candidates for further research in the development of new α-glucosidase inhibitors. © 2024, The Authors. Chitosan-Unripe banana peel powder (UBPP) as a candidate for antibacterial wound dressing

Wound infections have spread seriously worldwide, especially in Indonesia. Based on the Basic Health Survey conducted by the Indonesian Ministry of Health, shows that the prevalence of injuries tends to be high in Indonesia. Therefore, proper wound care is needed to prevent the wound from infection or other unwanted things. Various studies have been conducted to optimize the wound healing process. It is expected that materials that meet the standards for wound dressings will be produced using natural materials such as chitosan and banana peel. The purpose of this study is to confirm the change of unripe banana peel powder (UBPP) in the chitosan/UBPP dressing film. The changes in the concentration used were 0, 9, 10, and 11% wt. Membrane results were characterized by FTIR, SEM, tensile strength, cytotoxicity, swelling, and antibacterial tests. Based on tests in the functional group of FTIR, at a concentration of 10% wt UBPP showed an interaction between banana peel powder and chitosan at a wavelength of 3174.83 cm−1. The results of the SEM form of the 10% wt chitosan/UBPP sample showed a good interfacial appearance. Based on the tensile strength test, it can be seen that the ultimate tensile strength (UTS) value increases with the addition of the concentration of unripe banana peel powder (UBPP) and it can be seen that the UTS value has met the tensile strength standard. Cytotoxicity studies have shownthat all four samples are non-toxic, with more than 60% of live cells in the four samples. The addition of unripe banana peel powder reduces the swelling properties of water from the wound dressing. Antibacterial test results Synergistic results were shown for the highest antibacterial activity at a concentration of UBPP 11% wt.

This research aims to find the spectrum of a park service scope from two city parks in Denpasar, a densely populated city. The city parks in study are Lapangan Puputan Badung and Lapangan Puputan Margarana as city public facilities of Denpasar - Bali that is said to improve citizen quality of life and environment as well. However, this research focuses to see how city parks in Bali serve their users. This study uses a survey research method. Sample of respondents are chosen using accidental sampling technique with questionnaire as media of data collection. Data series include, users' age, frequency of visit, activities, and domicile. Research findings are analysed spatially and descriptively as well. Result shows that most visitors are young people who spend time mostly for exercising and other recreational activities. It is also interesting to see that both city park users are regular visitors. They visit the parks at least 1 to 2 time per week and spend 1 to 2 hours in there. The parks users mostly come from densely populated areas. That shows the importance of city parks as complement to a city. However, as a city that going to smart city, ICT has not been recognized much. As conclusion, the spectrum of city parks service scope of Denpasar still ranging in traditional functions of public green open space. A city park serves a man-made nature-like place for people to get refresh within an urban landscape setting. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Globalization had increased global economic activity, including production, trade and distribution activities in developing countries, especially in Asia. The increasing of trade traffic and cargo transportation in archipelago country like Indonesia, requires the utilization of sea lanes. This study was aimed to present the suitability of ship design to be passengers transportation in Berau Regency, East Kalimantan, Indonesia. The proposed design should be in accordance with the conditions of Berau which has 6 districts crossed by the river which still lack of transportation facilities. This research proposed an optimal ship design that can be used as a reference for renewable ships in Berau waters. This study produced a watershed design analysis concept as part of the reference and boundary dimensions of the ship. The obtained main size of the ship using linear regression method was total length of 12.5 meters, 3 meters wide, 1.5 meters high, and 0.6 meters full of water. Resistance analysis using the Savitsky method showed the engine capacity of 2x150 pk with a service speed of 25 knots. Maximum speed of 30 knots with a distance of 57.32 mill can be reached with 2 hours service speed and 1 hour 40 minutes at a maximum speed of 30 knots with the resistance value 12.8 kN. The total estimated budget for the production of this ship was Rp 1.773.656.800. This design may be adopted as an integrated reference for the procurement of transportation facilities for passenger ships, especially in the Berau river. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.
