ChatGPT, an AI-based chatbot, offers coherent and useful replies based on analysis of large volumes of data. In this article, leading academics, scientists, distinguish researchers and engineers discuss the transformative effects of ChatGPT on modern education. This research discusses ChatGPT capabilities and its use in the education sector, identifies potential concerns and challenges. Our preliminary evaluation shows that ChatGPT perform differently in different subject areas including finance, coding, maths, and general public queries. While ChatGPT has the ability to help educators by creating instructional content, offering suggestions and acting as an online educator to learners by answering questions, transforming education through smartphones and IoT gadgets, and promoting group work, there are clear drawbacks in its use, such as the possibility of producing inaccurate or false data and circumventing duplicate content (plagiarism) detectors where originality is essential. The often reported "hallucinations" within GenerativeAI in general, and also relevant for ChatGPT, can render its use of limited benefit where accuracy is essential. What ChatGPT lacks is a stochastic measure to help provide sincere and sensitive communication with its users. Academic regulations and evaluation practices used in educational institutions need to be updated, should ChatGPT be used as a tool in education. To address the transformative effects of ChatGPT on the learning environment, educating teachers and students alike about its capabilities and limitations will be crucial. © 2023 The Authors

This study explores the feasibility of deep learning for classifying nodule neoplasms, analyzing their performance on two openly available datasets, LUNGx SPIE, and LIDC-IDRI. These datasets offer valuable diversity in image quantity, quality, and malignancy annotation methodologies, posing a real-world challenge for effective model development. To handle the disparities in these diverse datasets, we aim to develop a robust classification model trained using federated learning. This decentralized approach allows model training across datasets without sharing patient data, preserving privacy and overcoming data fragmentation. Our experiments demonstrate that federated learning enables the development of a robust and superior deep learning model compared to individual models trained on limited data. This combination of deep learning, and federated learning holds immense promise for nodule neoplasm classification and can significantly improve patient care and outcomes. © 2024 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).

In urban areas of Japan, such as Tokyo, overcrowding in condominiums and office buildings leaves limited flat land for installing solar panels, resulting in inadequate installation of renewable energy. To advance photovoltaic power generation and support Japan's goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050, we are exploring the use of cylindrical solar cells in these dense urban settings. Cylindrical solar cells are ideal for metropolitan installations due to their lightweight design and wind resistance. However, it is crucial to consider how installation configurations influence electricity production, especially the need to minimize shadowing from nearby buildings and other urban elements. This study utilized lighting simulation software to model the light flux based on actual installation conditions of cylindrical solar cells to identify optimal placement strategies. Additionally, this configuration was compared with traditional flat-plate solar cells under similar conditions. Findings indicate that cylindrical solar cells offer flexible installation options. Notably, employing a horizontal grid layout for cylindrical cells addresses the challenges associated with wall-mounted flat-plate cells, which suffer reduced luminous flux at higher solar altitudes. These results demonstrate that cylindrical solar cells can effectively overcome the challenges of photovoltaic installation in densely populated urban areas.

With the rise of transportation electrification, an increasing number of charging stations have been established, forming a city-scale charging system. These charging stations serve as intermediaries that connect supply and demand, drawing power from the grid and renewable energy sources to provide electricity to electric vehicles. Maintaining a delicate balance between supply and demand has emerged as a significant challenge for the charging system. On a macroscopic level, it impacts the power grid's peak load and reliability, while locally, it influences electric vehicle detour events. To comprehensively model the spatio-temporal characteristics in the charging system, we partition the charging system by adopting a supply-demand-aware approach and propose OPS, an online power scheduling algorithm based on the regularization technique. OPS aims to achieve a bi-level balance between supply and demand while constraining the power output of the charging system. We substantiate the efficacy of OPS through rigorous theoretical proofs, demonstrating its comparability to the optimal solution. Furthermore, we conduct extensive evaluation experiments with real-world data sets to establish the feasibility of the proposed methodology in alleviating the supply-demand imbalance. The results indicate that OPS attains an empirical competitive ratio of less than 1.2. © 2002-2012 IEEE.

Broiler chicken meat is one of the most widely consumed meat types in Indonesia, this high level of consumption makes a lot of consumer demand in the market. However, there was a found seller who sells broiler chicken meat that are rotten. In this study, we develop chicken meat freshness identification using a convolutional neural network algorithm. This study used the image dataset of broiler chicken breasts. There are two categories of chicken meat used in the study, namely, fresh and rotten. The meat images were acquired by using a smartphone camera. For the process of cropping chicken meat images, we use thresholding with the Otsu method and conversion of RGB images to binary images to select the area of RGB images before cropping the images. The chicken meat images were cropped into three sizes and then used as a dataset in the study. The chicken meat image dataset was trained using a simple architecture that was self-made called Ayam6Net, we also used the AlexNet, VGGNet, and GoogLeNet architectures as a comparison. Ayam6Net has the highest accuracy of 92.9%. From the experiment results, we can conclude that using Ayam6Net architecture with dataset 400\times 400 pixels has a better accuracy result compared with other architectures and other sizes image datasets. © 2020 IEEE.

Independent Vector Analysis (IVA) is a popular extension of Independent Component Analysis (ICA) for joint separation of a set of instantaneous linear mixtures, with a direct application in frequency-domain speaker separation or extraction. The mixtures are parameterized by mixing matrices, one matrix per mixture. This means that the IVA mixing model does not account for any relationships between parameters across the mixtures/frequencies. The separation proceeds jointly only through the source model, where statistical dependencies of sources across the mixtures are taken into account. In this paper, we propose a mixing model for joint blind source extraction where the mixing model parameters are linked across the frequencies. This is achieved by constraining the set of feasible parameters to the manifold of half-length separating filters, which has a clear interpretation and application in frequency-domain speaker extraction.

The discovery and identification of molecules in biological and environmental samples is crucial for advancing biomedical and chemical sciences. Tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS) is the leading technique for high-throughput elucidation of molecular structures. However, decoding a molecular structure from its mass spectrum is exceptionally challenging, even when performed by human experts. As a result, the vast majority of acquired MS/MS spectra remain uninterpreted, thereby limiting our understanding of the underlying (bio)chemical processes. Despite decades of progress in machine learning applications for predicting molecular structures from MS/MS spectra, the development of new methods is severely hindered by the lack of standard datasets and evaluation protocols. To address this problem, we propose MassSpecGym - the first comprehensive benchmark for the discovery and identification of molecules from MS/MS data. Our benchmark comprises the largest publicly available collection of high-quality labeled MS/MS spectra and defines three MS/MS annotation challenges: de novo molecular structure generation, molecule retrieval, and spectrum simulation. It includes new evaluation metrics and a generalization-demanding data split, therefore standardizing the MS/MS annotation tasks and rendering the problem accessible to the broad machine learning community.
