In this paper, we propose a new method for features ranking and selection. Our approach is based on ranking nominal features in terms of their relevance to the assigned class and mutual redundancy with the other features. To calculate the relevance and redundancy, we propose to use a rough-set based approach. After performing the ranking, features filtering is carried out in a supervised way enabling the user to decide on the number of the retained features. The experiments revealed that thanks to our method, it is possible to filter out numerous features describing data while still maintaining satisfactory classification accuracy achieved by the classifier trained using the reduced dataset. The comparative experiments performed with the use of publicly available datasets proved the high efficiency and competitiveness of our approach. © 2020 The Authors. Published by Elsevier B.V.

Image dehazing aims to restore spatial details from hazy images. There have emerged a number of image dehazing algorithms, designed to increase the visibility of those hazy images. However, much less work has been focused on evaluating the visual quality of dehazed images. In this paper, we propose a Reduced-Reference dehazed image quality evaluation approach based on Partial Discrepancy (RRPD) and then extend it to a No-Reference quality assessment metric with Blind Perception (NRBP). Specifically, inspired by the hierarchical characteristics of the human perceiving dehazed images, we introduce three groups of features: luminance discrimination, color appearance, and overall naturalness. In the proposed RRPD, the combined distance between a set of sender and receiver features is adopted to quantify the perceptually dehazed image quality. By integrating global and local channels from dehazed images, the RRPD is converted to NRBP which does not rely on any information from the references. Extensive experiment results on several dehazed image quality databases demonstrate that our proposed methods outperform state-of-the-art full-reference, reduced-reference, and no-reference quality assessment models. Furthermore, we show that the proposed dehazed image quality evaluation methods can be effectively applied to tune parameters for potential image dehazing algorithms. © 2022, CC BY.

Promptable segmentation foundation models have emerged as a transformative approach to addressing the diverse needs in medical images, but most existing models require expensive computing, posing a big barrier to their adoption in clinical practice. In this work, we organized the first international competition dedicated to promptable medical image segmentation, featuring a large-scale dataset spanning nine common imaging modalities from over 20 different institutions. The top teams developed lightweight segmentation foundation models and implemented an efficient inference pipeline that substantially reduced computational requirements while maintaining state-of-the-art segmentation accuracy. Moreover, the post-challenge phase advanced the algorithms through the design of performance booster and reproducibility tasks, resulting in improved algorithms and validated reproducibility of the winning solution. Furthermore, the best-performing algorithms have been incorporated into the open-source software with a user-friendly interface to facilitate clinical adoption. Microgrids (MGs) are important players for the future transactive energy systems where a number of intelligent Internet of Things (IoT) devices interact for energy management in the smart grid. Although there have been many works on MG energy management, most studies assume a perfect communication environment, where communication failures are not considered. In this paper, we consider the MG as a multi-agent environment with IoT devices in which AI agents exchange information with their peers for collaboration. However, the collaboration information may be lost due to communication failures or packet loss. Such events may affect the operation of the whole MG. To this end, we propose a multi-agent Bayesian deep reinforcement learning (BA-DRL) method for MG energy management under communication failures. We first define a multi-agent partially observable Markov decision process (MA-POMDP) to describe agents under communication failures, in which each agent can update its beliefs on the actions of its peers. Then, we apply a double deep Q-learning (DDQN) architecture for Q-value estimation in BA-DRL, and propose a belief-based correlated equilibrium for the joint-action selection of multi-agent BA-DRL. Finally, the simulation results show that BA-DRL is robust to both power supply uncertainty and communication failure uncertainty. BA-DRL has 4.1% and 10.3% higher reward than Nash Deep Q-learning (Nash-DQN) and alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM) respectively under 1% communication failure probability. Recording the provenance of scientific computation results is key to the support of traceability, reproducibility and quality assessment of data products. Several data models have been explored to address this need, providing representations of workflow plans and their executions as well as means of packaging the resulting information for archiving and sharing. However, existing approaches tend to lack interoperable adoption across workflow management systems. In this work we present Workflow Run RO-Crate, an extension of RO-Crate (Research Object Crate) and *** to capture the provenance of the execution of computational workflows at different levels of granularity and bundle together all their associated objects (inputs, outputs, code, etc.). The model is supported by a diverse, open community that runs regular meetings, discussing development, maintenance and adoption aspects. Workflow Run RO-Crate is already implemented by several workflow management systems, allowing interoperable comparisons between workflow runs from heterogeneous systems. We describe the model, its alignment to standards such as W3C PROV, and its implementation in six workflow systems. Finally, we illustrate the application of Workflow Run RO-Crate in two use cases of machine learning in the digital image analysis domain. © 2023, CC BY.

The collection and curation of large-scale medical datasets from multiple institutions is essential for training accurate deep learning models, but privacy concerns often hinder data sharing. Federated learning (FL) is a promising solution that enables privacy-preserving collaborative learning among different institutions, but it generally suffers from performance deterioration due to heterogeneous data distributions and a lack of quality labeled data. In this paper, we present a robust and label-efficient self-supervised FL framework for medical image analysis. Our method introduces a novel Transformer-based self-supervised pre-training paradigm that pre-trains models directly on decentralized target task datasets using masked image modeling, to facilitate more robust representation learning on heterogeneous data and effective knowledge transfer to downstream models. Extensive empirical results on simulated and real-world medical imaging non-IID federated datasets show that masked image modeling with Transformers significantly improves the robustness of models against various degrees of data heterogeneity. Notably, under severe data heterogeneity, our method, without relying on any additional pre-training data, achieves an improvement of 5.06%, 1.53% and 4.58% in test accuracy on retinal, dermatology and chest X-ray classification compared to the supervised baseline with ImageNet pre-training. In addition, we show that our federated self-supervised pre-training methods yield models that generalize better to out-of-distribution data and perform more effectively when fine-tuning with limited labeled data, compared to existing FL algorithms. Personnel and education data very important for organizations, including the military. All data related to military personnel will give effect positions and careers in the military field. The integration of personnel and education data can assist in processing and decision making. An analysis is needed so that the developed system can be useful for the long term. Analysis with IT balanced scorecard and COBIT® 2019, will be able to help and fill the gaps in the existing system based on the objectives of the military organization itself. It is shown that the domains BAI05 (Managed Organizational Change) and DSS02 (Managed Service Requests and Incidents) are still not being implemented well. The system developed will have the features and capabilities to support the organization in achieving its goals, including in the field of staffing and education. Besides, it provides convenience in making decisions in terms of positions related to personnel careers. © 2020 IEEE.

Myocardial infarction (MI) results in heart muscle injury due to receiving insufficient blood flow. MI is the most common cause of mortality in middle-aged and elderly individuals around the world. To diagnose MI, clinicians need to interpret electrocardiography (ECG) signals, which requires expertise and is subject to observer bias. Artificial intelligence-based methods can be utilized to screen for or diagnose MI automatically using ECG signals. In this work, we conducted a comprehensive assessment of artificial intelligence-based approaches for MI detection based on ECG as well as other biophysical signals, including machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL) models. The performance of traditional ML methods relies on handcrafted features and manual selection of ECG signals, whereas DL models can automate these tasks. The review observed that deep convolutional neural networks (DCNNs) yielded excellent classification performance for MI diagnosis, which explains why they have become prevalent in recent years. To our knowledge, this is the first comprehensive survey of artificial intelligence techniques employed for MI diagnosis using ECG and other biophysical signals. © 2021, CC BY-SA.

Block chain is the one of the best secured distributed database design, a significant number of cryptocurrencies and financial trading markets using digital assets have also been introduced over time. Despite the fluctuation in the exchange rate, block chains and its cryptocurrencies have no remarkable change overall. They still follow the old-traditional trading mechanism, which exchanges between cryptocurrencies and at currencies. Although few projects are emerging to enlarge a block chain’s trading usage, i.e., cross-chain liquidity, it still limits itself on swapping one type of crypto-coin with another type. Beyond supporting swapping coins, the block chain could be applied and extended to become a trade-payment network that connects multiple solitary block chain-based platforms. In this work, we propose a heuristic cross-chain trading system that leverages the block chain technology to build a fair and border-less trading network across multiple decentralized block chains by taking advantage of smart contracts and ERC-20 protocol.
