During the current COVID-19 pandemic, older people are encouraged to use information, communication and technology in their everyday lives and discouraged from physical interactions. In Malaysia, it shows that implementing the Movement Control Order (MCO) to control the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic saw a shift in consumer trends, prompting businesses to explore new strategies to interact with consumers. But there is no study indicating the contributions of older people in this new business environment. Several complaints were reported regarding the usability, acceptability, and suitability of these applications for the elderly. The objectives of this study: (1) to investigate issues and challenges on older citizens in current software design quality;(2) To identify current practises on software usage amongst the older citizens, especially in e-commerce and e-business applications;and (3) To propose a model a software design quality that meets older people requirements, limitations, and expectations. A Transfer Learning-Based Framework for Enhanced Classification of Perceived Mental Stress Using EEG Spectrograms

Stress is a significant health concern, impacting both physical and mental well-being. Prolonged exposure to stress can lead to numerous physical health issues, including cardiovascular diseases, and a weakened immune system. This study presents a novel methodology for classifying perceived mental stress using electroencephalography (EEG) signals. By utilizing the publicly available Leipzig Study for Mind-Body-Emotion Interactions dataset, we analyze EEG data collected from 53 participants over a 7-minute resting-state duration. Our approach involves transforming EEG signals into spectrograms using the Short-Time Fourier Transform (STFT), resulting in a time-frequency representation of the input signals. We employ transfer learning to fine-tune three pre-trained deep neural networks i.e., ResNet50, EfficientNetB0, and DenseNet121 for classifying stress into two and three levels. Our findings demonstrate that the ResNet50 model achieves superior classification accuracies of 95.80% and 86.02% for two and three-level stress classification, respectively, outperforming existing state-of-the-art methods. This study is the first to utilize STFT-generated spectrograms and transfer learning for perceived stress classification, highlighting the efficacy of deep learning techniques in quantifying perceived mental stress through non-invasive EEG recordings. Our results indicate that the proposed method can significantly enhance the accuracy of stress classification frameworks, offering potential improvements in mental health assessment and intervention strategies. © 2013 IEEE.

Smart Buildings are buildings that integrate and combine intelligence, management, control, materials, and construction as a single system to meet all the needs of the building, such as comfort, energy efficiency, and durability. In universities, laboratories are used less frequently than other facilities and classrooms. Courses and students may change in the same classroom, and the period of use of such classrooms is much more extended than in laboratories. However, classrooms may only be used for classes during long breaks or for short periods of non-use between exams. In addition, there is no provision for when the heating system will start to heat up before classes or when it will be turned off after classes. By planning heating and lightning, energy and costs will be saved. This paper presents data acquisition methods for preparing a dataset to create a machine learning (ML) model to save energy loss in university laboratories. The developed model will predict energy consumption in classrooms and laboratories based on weather conditions. The study is being conducted in two stages. The first stage describes how to collect data using electronic devices such as Internet of Things (IoT) controllers of Smart Building Management Systems. The second stage gave possibilities for data analysis and preparation using the phases of the Cross-Industry Standard Process for Data Mining (CRISP-DM). © 2024 IEEE.

This study aimed to evaluate the effect of body posture type according to the Dolphens on musculoskeletal loads. There are three types of posture: neutral, swayback and lordotic according to Dolphens classification. The study involved a group of 29 subjects. Assessment of body posture was carried out using the Posture Photographic Assessment System. The following parameters were measured for each subject: pelvic tilt angle, lumbosacral and thoracolumbar tilt, upper kyphosis tilt angle. The position of the joints and individual body segments in relation to the vertical axis, the position of the centre of mass of the body and the values of the ground reaction forces were determined. The results obtained provided the input for the modelling of the posture of each person in the AnyBody Modelling System. A full-body Standing Model was used. The model was scaled to the weight and height of each subject. The highest values of lumbar loads were observed in subjects with a kyphotic posture. For those with a kyphotic posture, the average resultant force at the L5-S1 level was 0.97 ± 0.31 BW (BW - body weight). For those with a lordotic posture it was 0.87 ± 0.27 BW and for those with a neutral posture it was 0.86 ± 0.15 BW. Subjects with a kyphotic posture had the highest values for the compressive component of the force at the L5-S1 joint (0.96 ± 0.31 BW). The highest shear force values were obtained for the lordotic posture (0.1 ± 0.04 BW). The study also assessed the force values of the abdominal and dorsal muscles. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

Network updates have become increasingly prevalent since the broad adoption of software-defined networks(SDNs)in data *** TCP designs,including cutting-edge TCP variants DCTCP,CUBIC,and BBR,however,are not resilient to network updates that provoke flow *** this paper,we first demonstrate that popular TCP implementations perform inadequately in the presence of frequent and inconsistent network updates,because inconsistent and frequent network updates result in out-of-order packets and packet drops induced via transitory congestion and lead to serious performance *** look into the causes and propose a network update-friendly TCP(NUFTCP),which is an extension of the DCTCP variant,as a *** are used to assess the proposed *** findings reveal that NUFTCP can more effectively manage the problems of out-of-order packets and packet drops triggered in network updates,and it outperforms DCTCP considerably.

Current engineering production is characterised by rapid changes. These changes arise due to the shortening of product life cycles. Manufacturers are forced to introduce upgraded products at shorter intervals based on customer requirements. In this paper, we focus on the possibilities of production upgrading by using a group technology in the flexible manufacturing system. The production capabilities of one of the production machines in the manufacturing system will be analysed. This production machine is a lathe that produces one of the essential parts of a finished product. Road traffic accidents (RTAs) are vehicle accidents that occur on a route, involving collisions between vehicles and various moving objects, such as fixed obstructions, pedestrians, other vehicles, or animals. RTAs rank as the sixth leading cause of death in Ethiopia, with approximately 31,564 lives lost to road accidents every year. The objective of this study is to analyze road accident data to predict the severity of accidents using a machine learning technique. We used 7744 records with six attributes, including the final class, to develop the model. To balance the data, the author uses SMOTE analysis. The data were split into two parts for model training and testing: 80% for training and 20% for testing. The machine learning algorithms used in this study include artificial neural network (ANN), random forest (RF), decision tree (DT), and support vector machine (SVM). The accuracy achieved by these algorithms is as follows: ANN 90%, RF 89%, DT 87%, and SVM 89%. Consequently, ANN slightly outperforms the other machine learning algorithms in predicting accident severity using traffic record data. In conclusion, machine learning algorithms demonstrate promising results in predicting the severity of accidents. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.

Climate change is universally acknowledged as a global phenomenon with the potential to alter local climates significantly. However, contrary to the commonly perceived uniform warming and drying trend, local climates exhibit diverse changes. This article aims to explore the specific regional climatic shifts that have occurred in Hungary over the past 20 years. Utilising data from the Hungarian Meteorological Service, we employed both qualitative and quantitative methods to dissect the changes experienced across different Hungarian regions. Our findings reveal a complex tapestry of climatic alterations, with some areas undergoing transformations that defy the expectation of increased warmth and aridity. The study provides a detailed account of these regional changes, offering insights into the varied manifestations of climate change locally. Furthermore, it discusses the potential future scenarios for the climate of Hungary, laying a foundation for region-specific adaptation strategies. Given a graph G and two spanning trees T and T′ in G, Spanning Tree Reconfiguration asks whether there is a step-by-step transformation from T to T′ such that all intermediates are also spanning trees of G, by exchanging an edge in T with an edge outside T at a single step. This problem is naturally related to matroid theory, which shows that there always exists such a transformation for any pair of T and T′. Motivated by this example, we study the problem of transforming a sequence of spanning trees into another sequence of spanning trees. We formulate this problem in the language of matroid theory: Given two sequences of bases of matroids, the goal is to decide whether there is a transformation between these sequences. We design a polynomial-time algorithm for this problem, even if the matroids are given as basis oracles.
