Accurate and reliable fruit detection and recognition in orchards is critical for enabling higher-level agriculture tasks such as fruit picking. However, detecting and recognizing fruits with occlusion by neighboring fruits is extremely difficult. Faster R-CNN (Faster Region-based Convolutional Neural Network) is a well-known deep learning technology for object detection and recognition. Thus, this study investigates the application of Faster R-CNN for apple detection and recognition. Two different datasets have been constructed under variable illumination conditions and occlusion;an inter-class dataset that consists of images of apples and oranges, and an intra-class dataset that consists of images of two types of apples, namely fuji and royal gala apples. Results indicate that Faster R-CNN can detect and recognize apples from oranges, and the fuji apple in the orchards, with high accuracy. This suggests that Faster R-CNN can be used practically in the real orchard context. © 2023 IEEE.

In software-defined networking(SDN)networks,unlike traditional networks,the control plane is located separately in a device or *** of the most critical problems in these networks is a controller placement problem,which has a significant impact on the network’s overall *** paper attempts to provide a solution to this problem aiming to reduce the operational cost of the network and improve their survivability and load *** researchers have proposed a suitable framework called kernel search introducing integer programming formulations to address the controller placement *** demonstrates through careful computational studies that the formulations can design networks with much less installation cost while accepting a general connected topology among controllers and user-defined survivability *** researchers used the proposed framework on six different topologies then analyzed and compared with Iterated Local Search(ILS)and Expansion model for the controller placement problem(EMCPP)along with considering several evaluation *** results show that the proposed framework outperforms the ILS and ***,the proposed framework has a 38.53%and 38.02%improvement in reducing network implementation costs than EMCPP and ILS,respectively.

An Attention-Based Deep Network for Plant Disease Classification

Plant disease classification using machine learning in a real agricultural field environment is a difficult task. Often, an automated plant disease diagnosis method might fail to capture and interpret discriminatory information due to small variations among leaf sub-categories. Yet, modern Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) have achieved decent success in discriminating various plant diseases using leave images. A few existing methods have applied additional pre-processing modules or sub-networks to tackle this challenge. Sometimes, the feature maps ignore partial information for holistic description by part-mining. A deep CNN that emphasizes integration of partial descriptiveness of leaf regions is proposed in this work. The efficacious attention mechanism is integrated with high-level feature map of a base CNN for enhancing feature representation. The proposed method focuses on important diseased areas in leaves, and employs an attention weighting scheme for utilizing useful neighborhood information. The proposed Attention-based network for Plant Disease Classification (APDC) method has achieved state-of-the-art performances on four public plant datasets containing visual/thermal images. The best top-1 accuracies attained by the proposed APDC are: PlantPathology 97.74%, PaddyCrop 99.62%, PaddyDoctor 99.65%, and PlantVillage 99.97%. The rapid growth of electronic commerce (e-commerce) has revolutionized the way Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) conduct business, enabling them to reach global markets and unlock new growth opportunities. However, this digital transformation has also exposed SMEs to an escalating array of cybersecurity threats that could compromise their data, financial integrity, and reputation. Blockchain technology, known for its decentralized and immutable nature, has emerged as a potential solution to enhance the security and resilience of e-commerce operations for SMEs. This research paper aims to investigate the current state of cybersecurity preparedness among SMEs engaged in e-commerce and identify the prevalent threats they face in the digital landscape. To achieve this goal, the study incorporates systematic literature review (SLR) method to examine the best technological solution to address the cybersecurity issues faced by e-commerce organizations in this paper of SMEs operating in e-commerce to gather data on their security practices, incident history, and perceptions of cybersecurity risks. In the context of this research, blockchain technology will be explored as a potential mechanism to enhance the security of e-commerce operations for SMEs. The inherent features of blockchain, such as decentralization, transparency, and immutability, could help protect sensitive data and thwart cyberattacks. By exploring the integration of blockchain into e-commerce systems, the research aims to shed light on the potential benefits and challenges associated with its adoption by SMEs. The research findings will not only shed light on the prevailing cybersecurity practices within SMEs and highlight their vulnerabilities but will also explore how blockchain technology can be leveraged to address these challenges. To directly investigate the dynamic nanoscale phenomenon on the surface being processed in wet conditions such as precision polishing, and cleaning in semiconductor industrial, an optical method for visualization and observation of each sub-100 nm sized particle that is moving on an interface such as a silica glass surface by applying an evanescent field have been proposing. Subsequently, we developed an experimental apparatus equipped with an optical microscopy system for verifying the moving particle observation method in a laboratory scale. This article introduces some experimentally direct observation results of duplicated wet processes. © 2024 IEEE.

This paper introduces a novel approach for extending the applicability of pre-trained models to accommodate longer texts. Addressing the inherent limitation of quadratic performance in attention models within transformers, we propose the concept of fused transformers. By integrating new adaptor techniques, we enhance the encoding of lengthy text segments by breaking them into shorter spans. Subsequently, these segments are fused to increase the model's effectiveness in processing extended texts. This fusion mechanism serves to fortify the model's capacity for fine-tuning. Furthermore, we implement a length-based curriculum for expedited training Our experiments yielded 16 Rouge-2 points, representing a doubling of the score achieved by the vanilla fine-tuning method on the newly introduced "Mukhtasar" dataset for summarization. This highlights the effectiveness of managing complex relations among text segments and confirms that our method can outperform conventional training approaches. © 2024 Elsevier B.V.. Accurate identification of plant diseases is important for ensuring the safety of agricultural *** neural networks(CNNs)and visual transformers(VTs)can extract effective representations of images and have been widely used for the intelligent recognition of plant disease ***,CNNs have excellent local perception with poor global perception,and VTs have excellent global perception with poor local *** makes it difficult to further improve the performance of both CNNs and VTs on plant disease recognition *** this paper,we propose a local and global feature-aware dual-branch network,named LGNet,for the identification of plant *** specifically,we first design a dual-branch structure based on CNNs and VTs to extract the local and global ***,an adaptive feature fusion(AFF)module is designed to fuse the local and global features,thus driving the model to dynamically perceive the weights of different ***,we design a hierarchical mixed-scale unit-guided feature fusion(HMUFF)module to mine the key information in the features at different levels and fuse the differentiated information among them,thereby enhancing the model's multiscale perception ***,extensive experiments were conducted on the Al Challenger 2018 dataset and the self-collected corn disease(SCD)*** experimental results demonstrate that our proposed LGNet achieves state-of-the-art recognition performance on both the Al Challenger 2018 dataset and the SCD dataset,with accuracies of 88.74％and 99.08％,respectively.

The paper describes the energy consumption from the battery based on the current measurements for various cases, i.e., speed (PWL adjustment) and loads. The main purpose of the research is to have additional and reliable information about power consumption and battery life estimation for autonomous guided vehicles (AGV). The authors propose a two-step algorithm. In the first step, a linear classifier was proposed. Then, the KNN classifier was tested;however, it did not give satisfactory results, so it was finally decided to use the random forest to estimate the load and PWL. The time domain current measurement is evaluated, and the beforementioned algorithms process the selected statistical measures. It has been proven that a two-step algorithm allows for achieving high accuracy. Based on the current observation, the paper is a good starting point for further investigation of the AGV because it is usually implemented in the AGV - so it does not require additional hardware. Moreover, it can lead to better energy management and increase battery lifetime. © 2023 IEEE.
