In the Indonesian language (bahasa), a strong correlation between sounds and letterscan be found, due to the fact that every single letter in a syllable is strongly pronounced. This `feature' enables the creation of a syllable sound library with a one to one mapping to its written form. A previous investigation [2] suggest that a total of 1881 syllable sound library is needed to build an Indonesian Text to Speech System (TTS), using the syllable concatenation *** paper discuss the optimization of the Indonesian Text-To-Speech (TTS) that has been implemented earlier. The optimization is focused on the syllable sound data base quality and in the integration of syllables during the playback process. Three major improvements is explored here, syllable sound database pre-processing, syllabification method and playback algorithms to reach human reading speed.

A novel power-line interference(PLI) reduction algorithm is proposed as a pre-processing step for electrocardiogram(ECG) signals. A distinct feature of this proposed algorithm is its ability to detect the presence of PLI in the ECG signal before applying the PLI removal algorithm. A constant-false alarm rate(CFAR) PLI detector using a band-pass IIR notch filter is developed for this purpose. Once the presence of PLI is detected, a recursive least-squares(RLS) adaptive IIR filter then will be applied to eliminate the PLI anomaly. On the other hand, if the PLI is not detected, no PLI reduction filtering will be applied. The proposed intelligent algorithm is able to perform PLI reduction operation without human operator supervision. The proposed RLS adaptive notch filtering algorithm also exhibits fast convergence and numerical stability.

The paper developed a block-wise approach for ICA algorithms which can improve the computational efficiency of ICA without the degradation of performance for the separation of biomedical signals. Source signals including electrocardiogram (ECG), electromyogram (EMG) and 60-Hz sinusoid are linearly mixed for experimental tests. The mean-square errors (MSE) between the original sources and the separated signals are calculated for the evaluation of separation performance. These results demonstrated that the proposed block-wise approach can achieve the desired separation performance of signals in a more efficient way.
