Educational systems in Egypt face a shortage in the number of teachers as there is an annual increment in the number of students who are enrolled in public schools. Therefore, voluntary teaching is proposed to assist the hierarchy of educational objectives and to compensate for this shortage. With the help of technologies such as QR code scanners, Blue-tooth, Wifi, RFID, and computer Vision, a technological system guarantees a high quality and high performance of monitoring teaching activities. Nevertheless, an implementation of a mobile application guides the volunteer, the student, and the school administrators to monitor and access the course content easily along with a rewarding system that credits the volunteers for their effort. © 2023 IEEE.

Machine Learning-Based Calibration Approaches for Single-Beam and Multiple-Beam Distance Sensors

Sensors are the foundation to facilitate smart cities, smart grids, and smart transportation, and distance sensors are especially important for sensing the environment and gathering information. Researchers have developed various methods to calibrate distance sensors;however, they mainly focus on using external information for calibration, which is inefficient and computationally expensive. To alleviate the above problems, we propose machine learning (ML)-based calibration approaches for distance sensors. We develop two calibration mechanisms, where the naive mechanism directly predicts the true distance, while the residual mechanism predicts the residual for calibration. The conventional ML regression algorithms are then adopted to predict the true distance or calibration residual. Experimental results show that the designed residual calibration mechanism outperforms the naive mechanism by reducing the root mean square error (RMSE) by 92.2% and mean absolute error (MAE) by 93.3% in the fitting task. In prediction, the proposed 2-D-residual mechanism achieves an improvement of 78.6% and 65.7% compared to the state-of-the-art method. The experimental results show the effectiveness and generalization of the proposed ML-based calibration method, especially for the 2-D mechanism, which achieves the highest robustness in all fitting and prediction tasks. © 2001-2012 IEEE.

This systematic literature review (SLR) study aims to analyze the role of New Media as a Tool to Improve Creative Thinking, with relevant articles from 2018 to 2023 taken from reputable international journals. It uses three research questions (RQ) to explore New Media's relevance in stimulating creativity. The results indicate that interactive platforms such as social media and online collaboration tools positively influence creative thinking skills. Interaction through New Media allows individuals to share ideas, discuss, and be exposed to various points of view, all of which stimulate creative thinking. In addition, New Media also facilitates the creative process of solving problems and generating original ideas. The immersive experiences offered by this technology can enhance the exploration of ideas and increase the ability to think out-of-the-box. While New Media offers great potential to enhance creativity, there are also potential risks, such as false information, media addiction, and privacy concerns. Therefore, awareness of the wise use of New Media needs to be increased, especially in education and everyday life. Overall, this literature review provides in-depth insight into the role of New Media in enhancing creative thinking skills and driving innovation. With the right approach, New Media can be an effective tool in stimulating creative thinking and encouraging the creation of original ideas beneficial for future social and technological developments. © 2023 IEEE.

This research discusses the improvement of Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) model accuracy in translating Batak to Indonesian by utilizing FastText and GloVe embeddings. Traditional LSTM models often struggle with the complexity and richness of underrepresented languages like Batak. By integrating FastText and GloVe, which provide word vectors with deeper semantic meanings, the translation quality can be significantly enhanced. Experimental results show that this approach offers a substantial performance improvement compared to conventional LSTM models, producing more accurate and contextual translations. These findings have the potential to be applied in broader multilingual translation systems and support the preservation and digital accessibility of minority languages. © 2024 IEEE.

In information visualization, the position of symbols often encodes associated data values. When visualizing data elements with both a numerical and a categorical dimension, positioning in the categorical axis admits some flexibility. This flexibility can be exploited to reduce symbol overlap, and thereby increase legibility. In this paper we initialize the algorithmic study of optimizing symbol legibility via a limited displacement of the symbols. Specifically, we consider unit square symbols that need to be placed at specified y-coordinates. We optimize the drawing order of the symbols as well as their x-displacement, constrained within a rectangular container, to maximize the minimum visible perimeter over all squares. If the container has width and height at most 2, there is a point that stabs all squares. In this case, we prove that a staircase layout is arbitrarily close to optimality and can be computed in O(n log n) time. If the width is at most 2, there is a vertical line that stabs all squares, and in this case, we give a 2-approximation algorithm (assuming fixed container height) that runs in O(n log n) time. As a minimum visible perimeter of 2 is always trivially achievable, we measure this approximation with respect to the visible perimeter exceeding 2. The most common cause of blindness among diabetics is diabetic retinopathy. This disease must be detected in its early stages as delaying treatment can result in permanent blindness. In today’s modern world with the development of technologies, automated techniques have improved the accuracy and efficiency of detecting and classifying this disease. This study suggests a deep learning model utilizing EfficientNetB0 that focuses on designing a neural network structure that requires fewer parameters and computations compared to traditional architectures. Further to help in increasing the accuracy, the image is being processed with methods like CLAHE which is an image processing algorithm that helps in enhancing the contrast while keeping the noise of the images as low as possible. Also, augmentation is being done on the images and SMOTE is applied to handle class imbalance. We collected the APTOS Blindness Detection dataset consisting of retinal fundus images. The accuracy that is being obtained from the proposed methodology is 98.78% indicating the model's effectiveness in detection and classifying between the various stages of diabetic retinopathy. © 2024 IEEE.

Internet of Things technology allows humans to collect information about daily activities, for example to find out someone's health information, but at the time of data transmission it has an impact on one's privacy. Sniffing can record data sent from the user to the database server, this results in a leak of individual privacy. The SPECK algorithm is one of the cryptographic algorithms that guarantees confidentiality because the SPECK algorithm has varying key lengths and block sizes. Adding the SPECK cipher Algorithm to the node that holds sensor data can minimize privacy data leaks caused by data transmission on the Internet of Things. The SPECK algorithm has the same results as the test vectors in published journals and the resulting ciphertext can be returned to its original form by decryption. The encryption time is 0.089354 seconds and the decryption time on the server is 0.00610295 seconds. © 2022 ACM.

Classification is the process of grouping classes and defining a class and determining the relationship between these classes. Landsat imagery with the distribution of residential areas and agricultural areas can be used to process information on the population density of a particular area. In this study, the classification process of residential images, factory images and rice fields images has been carried out with a total of 58 data. KNN was chosen as the classification algorithm considering the data used is quite simple and few. In this study, GLCM is used for feature extraction features, especially regarding image texture patterns. We have implemented values K=1 to k=11. The best accuracy value is obtained at k=1 which is 100%, while k=3, k=5 has obtained an accuracy of 96.15%. k=7 and k=9 can still be tolerated by getting 76.92% while at k=11 it only gets 57.69%. © 2022 IEEE.

This paper describes a Plastic Waste Hotspot Detection System which has been developed in an international collaborative research project to realize an 'Environmental AI-Human Actions integration' with marine plastic waste reduction actions. In this project, various local conditions are obtained to the system to realize an environmentally resilient society. The nature conservation activities such as marine plastic waste collection and reduction actions are implemented based on these conditions. In the process of integration of Environmental AI and Human Actions, the effects of these activities and activists' contribution to environmental improvement and global-scale knowledge are accumulated, shared, analyzed, and visualized through global-scale analysis. This paper describes the Plastic Waste Hotspot Detection system as one of the systems that integrate AI systems and human actions. This paper examines the feasibility and effectiveness of the system through the fieldwork tests in Phuket, Thailand and Surabaya, Indonesia. © 2024 IEEE.
