Different types of e-assessment systems that are recognized at universities and based on the campus wireless have been developed. These systems help the students to use their Mobile Phones as learning media to access the information more easily from anywhere and at anytime. Seppala and Alamaki developed a mobile learning project for teacher training. Their study compared the effectiveness of internet, face-to-face and mobile based instructions. Al Masri has proposed a study to compare the effective strategy in paper-based assessment with mobile-based assessment for assessing university students in English literature. It has been found that students gained better scores in mobile phone-based test than in paper-based test. This paper aims to determine and measure the effects of mobile-based assessments on the perception, achievement levels and performance of the students in internet-assisted courses. The main functionalities and features of this paper are: Knowledge evaluation, automatic generation of exams, exam grading, communication, course management, and questions-bank database. © 2015 IEEE.

We present a new, concurrent, lock-free priority queue that relaxes the delete-min operation to allow deletion of any of the ρ+1 smallest keys instead of only a minimal one, where ρ is a parameter that can be configured at runtime. It is built from a logarithmic number of sorted arrays, similar to log-structured merge-trees (LSM). For keys added and removed by the same thread the behavior is identical to a non-relaxed priority queue. We compare to state-of-the-art lock-free priority queues with both relaxed and non-relaxed semantics, showing high performance and good scalability of our approach.

Cardiac arrest (CA) is the leading cause of death in the United States. Induction of hypothermia has been found to improve the functional recovery of CA patients after resuscitation. However, there is no clear guideline for the clinicians yet to determine the prognosis of the CA when patients are treated with hypothermia. The present work aimed at the development of a prognostic marker for the CA patients undergoing hypothermia. A quantitative measure of the complexity of Electroencephalogram (EEG) signals, called wavelet sub-band entropy, was employed to predict the patients' outcomes. We hypothesized that the EEG signals of the patients who survived would demonstrate more complexity and consequently higher values of wavelet sub-band entropies. A dataset of 16-channel EEG signals collected from CA patients undergoing hypothermia at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center was used to test the hypothesis. Following preprocessing of the signals and implementation of the wavelet transform, the wavelet sub-band entropies were calculated for different frequency bands and EEG channels. Then the values of wavelet sub-band entropies were compared among two groups of patients: survived vs. non-survived. Ensuring the security of a wide variety of applications such as public security, access control and banking, is becoming an increasingly important problem as modern technology is integrated into the majority of these applications. Thus, establishing identity of a person is the significant method used to ensure a high security level. As a security method, biometric identification has a long tradition and is a synonym for the uniqueness of person. In this paper, based on Finger-Knuckle-Print (FKP), we present a multimodal personal identification system using two feature extraction methods with their fusion applied at the matching score level. In this study, the segmented FKP is firstly represented by the Histogram of Oriented Gradients(HOG) descriptors. Subsequently, the Radial Basis Function(RBF) and Random Forest Transform (RFT) models are used to design two sub-systems. The proposed method is validated for their efficacy on the available PolyU FKP Database of 165 users. Our experimental results show the effectiveness and reliability of the proposed approach, which brings both high identification and accuracy rate.

Interpretation of resolved polarized images of black holes by the Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) requires predictions of the polarized emission observable by an Earth-based instrument for a particular model of the black hole accretion system. Such predictions are generated by general relativistic radiative transfer (GRRT) codes, which integrate the equations of polarized radiative transfer in curved spacetime. A selection of ray-tracing GRRT codes used within the EHT Collaboration is evaluated for accuracy and consistency in producing a selection of test images, demonstrating that the various methods and implementations of radiative transfer calculations are highly consistent. When imaging an analytic accretion model, we find that all codes produce images similar within a pixel-wise normalized mean squared error (NMSE) of 0.012 in the worst case. When imaging a snapshot from a cell-based magnetohydrodynamic simulation, we find all test images to be similar within NMSEs of 0.02, 0.04, 0.04, and 0.12 in Stokes I, Q, U, and V, respectively. We additionally find the values of several image metrics relevant to published EHT results to be in agreement to much better precision than measurement uncertainties.

Users and their passwords are the weakest link of security, because they tend to create passwords that are not strong, easy to remember and contain words that are familiar to them. Users' lack of security consciousness and their behavior can be influenced by security education. Our research explores the effect of password security training on the strength of the passwords chosen by the users. The objective of this paper is to explore possible differences in the quality of passwords between students from different faculties with different foreknowledge and education about passwords and security. In this paper we analyze the passwords of the students from the faculty of Tourism and compare the results to the ones from the faculty of electrical engineering and computer science at the University of Maribor. We collected the data by means of an online questionnaire, performed among undergraduate and graduate students. Despite our efforts to educate the users about the importance of frequent password change, a large percent of users did not change their passwords following the lectures. The overall conclusion of this preliminary study is that users still lack security knowledge regarding password change and need to be further educated in this direction.

When evaluating the process of building classification decision trees, it is necessary to assess the performance of constructed trees, as well as the speed and efficiency of the algorithm. Top-down induction algorithms are relatively simple and can quickly generate good solutions, however their deterministic nature often prevents them from finding globally optimal solutions. On the other hand, the evolutionary approach to decision tree building has yielded promising results by exploring and exploiting the entire search space. However, the standard evolutionary method of building decision trees uses the fitness-based selection of two trees for crossover, which can lead to premature convergence to a local, often sub-optimal solution. In order to maintain the diversity of the population over the course of evolution, we propose a novel method of selection that takes into consideration the similarity of trees in the crossover process, to prevent inbreeding. Several different approaches to evaluate the similarity between trees were designed and implemented. The approaches of both similar and diverse tree crossover were compared to the standard induction algorithm on twenty different data sets to determine the impact of similarity on the effectiveness and efficiency of the genetic algorithm.
