A machine learning approach for skin lesion classification on iOS: implementing and optimizing a convolutional transfer learning model with Create ML

The integration of machine learning (ML) into mobile applications presents unique challenges, particularly in resource-constrained environments such as iOS devices. Skin lesion classification is a critical task in dermatology, where accurate and efficient diagnostic tools can significantly aid in early detection of malignant lesions. This study aims to implement a machine learning-based iOS mobile application and develop a binary classification model for skin lesion images to determine whether a lesion is malignant. The research utilized Create ML to develop a convolutional neural network optimized for iOS, employing a transfer learning approach. A logistic regression model was cascaded with the convolutional neural network N to enhance classification accuracy. The model's performance was assessed through various validation metrics, ensuring its robustness and efficiency within the constraints of mobile hardware. A curated dataset from the International Skin Imaging Collaboration archive was used for training and testing. The model achieved an accuracy of 92%, a precision of 90%, a recall of 93%, and an F1-score of 91% in classifying skin lesions. These metrics validate the model's efficacy in identifying malignant lesions. Data curation involved collecting, labeling, and preparing a dataset from publicly available sources, ensuring the inclusion of diagnostically relevant features. The final model was integrated into an iOS application using Core ML and Vision frameworks. The developed application demonstrates reliable performance in classifying skin lesions with high accuracy on iOS devices. The inclusion of comprehensive performance metrics justifies the efficacy of the proposed approach. Future work will explore enhancements in model architecture and object detection capabilities to further improve diagnostic precision and application usability. © 2024 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group.

COVID-19 pandemic restrictions limited all social activities to curtail the spread of the *** foremost and most prime sector among those affected were schools,colleges,and *** education system of entire nations had shifted to online education during this *** shortcomings of Learning Management Systems(LMSs)were detected to support education in an online mode that spawned the research in Artificial Intelligence(AI)based tools that are being developed by the research community to improve the effectiveness of *** paper presents a detailed survey of the different enhancements to LMSs,which are led by key advances in the area of AI to enhance the real-time and non-real-time user *** AI-based enhancements proposed to the LMSs start from the Application layer and Presentation layer in the form of flipped classroom models for the efficient learning environment and appropriately designed UI/UX for efficient utilization of LMS utilities and resources,including AI-based *** layer enhancements are also required,such as AI-based online proctoring and user authentication using *** extend to the Transport layer to support real-time and rate adaptive encrypted video transmission for user security/privacy and satisfactory working of *** also needs the support of the Networking layer for IP-based geolocation features,the Virtual Private Network(VPN)feature,and the support of Software-Defined Networks(SDN)for optimum Quality of Service(QoS).Finally,in addition to these,non-real-time user experience is enhanced by other AI-based enhancements such as Plagiarism detection algorithms and Data Analytics.

Data growth has led to the need to apply new ways to process data. Graph databases are increasing their use, which can be seen over the years, with the Neo4j system being the most common. The biggest problem is the small number of implemented constraints that can be used. One of the shortcomings to be explored is the need to create domains, which are used when large amounts of data are manipulated and where the value needs to be limited or when multiple attributes have the same restrictions and data types. The creation of domains can be applied multiple times. This paper summarises the implementation of domains using Neo4j and the Java programming language. © 2024 Inderscience Enterprises Ltd.

In recent years, web programming has increased to the extent where it is capable of rendering 3D objects on the web. Its rendering performance varied depending on where it ran and what library was used to render the objects. This study aims to investigate the rendering performance of several 3D renderer libraries that render 3D objects in an augmented reality application. WebGL is one of the APIs that uses the Javascript programming language to render 3D objects in web applications. To create augmented reality on the web, a JavaScript library called *** is needed, which allows developers to create augmented reality on the web without the need to use additional plugins. *** supports various types of augmented reality, i.e., bookmarks, images, and location-based types. It also allows developers to incorporate visual and audio effects into augmented reality. This study aims to investigate the rendering performance of WebGL raw shaders and GLSL shaders in an HTML-based augmented reality application. The results suggested that both WebGL and GLSL could render low-poly and medium-poly 3D objects well. However, according to the test, WebGL performance drops significantly when rendering high-polygon 3D objects. Nonetheless, the GLSL library could render the same high-poly 3D objects at a similar level with native library rendering performance. Thus, suggest GLSL shaders as the recommended library to render 3D objects on the web. © 2023 ACM.

When performing the simulation process, we encounter many systems that do not follow by their nature the uniform distribution adopted in the process of generating the random numbers necessary for the simulation process. Therefore, it was necessary to find a mechanism to convert the random numbers that follow the regular distribution over the period [0, 1] to random variables that follow the probability distribution that works on the system to be simulated. In classical logic, we use many techniques in the transformation process that results in random variables that follow irregular probability distributions. In this research, we used the inverse transformation technique, which is one of the most widely used techniques, especially for the probability distributions for which the inverse function of the cumulative distribution function can found. We applied this technique to generate neutrosophic random variables that follow an exponential distribution or a neutrosophic exponential distribution. This based on classical or neutrosophic random numbers that follow a regular distribution. We distinguished three cases according to the logic that each of the random numbers or the exponential distribution follows. We arrived at neutrosophic random variables that, when we use them in systems that operate according to an exponential distribution, such as queues and others, will provide us with a high degree of accuracy of results, and the reason for this is due to the indeterminacy provided by neutrosophic logic © 2023, Neutrosophic Sets and *** Rights Reserved.

In this digital era, attracting new students from outside the region to enter a college or university is difficult. This problem can be solved with good marketing and information dissemination techniques. Information is a type of data that has been processed and organized so that it has relevant meaning for the recipient. Useful information can be used to help make decisions, gain new knowledge, or solve problems. One medium for providing information is by using videos that can be uploaded to YouTube for dissemination. However, problems arise when the information depends on the point of view of the video content creator, who may not provide enough information sought by users in their videos. Virtual reality (VR) technology can be pursued as one of the solutions to overcome the lack of detail and control in videos for users to get the expected information. One of the technologies in VR that allows people to explore a three-dimensional virtual world on a web platform is the 360° WebVR technology. Since users have full control over what can be seen using WebVR, it is expected that this technology can assist users in getting deeper and detailed information related to their needs. This study aims to determine the effectiveness and efficiency of using YouTube videos and WebVR in distributing information and delivering detailed information to users. The results show that WebVR technology has the potential to provide greater control over more detailed information to users who use it, in contrast to traditional two-dimensional video playback technology. © 2023 ACM.

The implementation of e-learning platforms in higher education offers opportunities to enhance education quality and increase access to flexible learning. However, challenges arise, including limited guidance for students, high dropout rates, and obstacles faced by instructors. This qualitative case study explores the challenges and opportunities of online learning from instructors' perspectives. Data was collected through a survey administered to 23 instructors, and thematic analysis was conducted to identify the themes of challenges and opportunities. Findings reveal challenges in interaction, practical session delivery, monitoring, assessment, and identity verification. Institutional support challenges include insufficient training and socialization. Individual Challenges encompass digital skills, health concerns, and fatigue. Technological challenges involve availability, integration, capacity, and network-related issues. Despite these challenges, online learning provides opportunities for time effectiveness, flexibility, personal development, innovative teaching methods, and collaboration with external experts. © 2023 The Authors. Using wireless signals, it is possible to map some patterns in the received signal to human activities in the vicinity of the wireless receiver. One of the potential applications of this is to detect the direction of human movement in a user device-free manner. To achieve it, we propose to use the channel state information (CSI) of received Wi-Fi signals and process the raw CSI using calibration, Hampel filter, and discrete wavelet transform to minimize the noise and retrieve the useful features of phase and amplitude components of the CSI. Then machine learning algorithms are applied to processed CSI to classify the direction of human walk. Our experimental study with off-the-shelf commodity Wi-Fi hardware and diverse users showed that the proposed system can produce 92.9%, 95.1%, and 89% accuracy for data from two different environments, combined data, respectively. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.

Smartphones have grown popular in the current digital era among people. Map-based applications are one of many that are used daily by people to acquire information about specific locations. Google Maps and Waze are two popular examples of map-based applications for travel and navigation, as they provide detailed information while the user navigates from one point to another. One of the most commonly used algorithms in map-based applications is the Dijkstra algorithm. Although the Dijkstra algorithm can determine the shortest route between two points, there is an issue when the selected route involves a large number of data points that need to be processed. The more data points involved, the longer it takes to do a route calculation in the Dijkstra algorithm. This can lead to a degradation in system performance, especially on smartphones with limited resources. To address this issue, the Douglas-Peucker algorithm is proposed as a solution to reduce the number of points involved in the calculation using the line simplification technique. Line simplification means reducing unnecessary points that are considered unimportant. This study suggested that integrating the Douglas-Peucker line simplification technique before Dijkstra could improve the system performance more than the system without integrating line simplification in terms of reducing both memory usage and the time required to compute the solution. © 2023 ACM.

Enhancing intrusion detection in IIoT: optimized CNN model with multi-class SMOTE balancing

This work introduces an intrusion detection system (IDS) tailored for industrial internet of things (IIoT) environments based on an optimized convolutional neural network (CNN) model. The model is trained on a dataset that was balanced using a novel multi-class implementation of synthetic minority over-sampling technique (SMOTE) that ensures equal representation of all classes. Additionally, systematic optimization will be used to fine tune the hyperparameters of the CNN model and mitigate the effects of the increased size of the training dataset. Evaluation results will demonstrate substantial improvement in performance when the optimized CNN model is trained on the balanced dataset. The proposed IDS will be evaluated using the IIoT-specific WUSTL-IIOT-2021 dataset, and then its generalization capability will be verified using the non-domain specific UNSW_NB15 dataset. The model’s performance will be evaluated using accuracy, precision, recall, and F1-score metrics. The results will demonstrate that the proposed IDS is highly effective with performance exceeding 99.9% on all performance metrics. The IDS is also highly effective in detecting intrusion for generic IT networks achieving improvements in excess of 30% compared to the default baseline model. The results emphasize the versatility and effectiveness of the proposed IDS model, making it a reliable and adaptable solution for enhancing network security across diverse network environments. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag London Ltd., part of Springer Nature 2024.
