The Tamblang Dam break analysis using HEC-RAS 5.0.7 and PenRis hazard classification in Indonesia

Tamblang Dam is one of the dams, north of Bali Island, with a capacity of 7.6 million m3, and the downstream areas are in the form of agricultural land, citizen settlements, schools, offices, and other public facilities for approximately 10 km2. Considering such a downstream and its large capacity, the Tamblang Dam would have a significant damage impact if it is a failure. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze the failure of the Tamblang Dam. The study aims to analyze the areas affected by floods due to the dam’s failures and to measure the damage risk. The failures were simulated using HEC-RAS 5.0.7 with four scenarios, such as overtopping, upper-piping, middle-piping, and bottom-piping. The simulation result showed that the Tamblang Dam’s failure with the overtopping scenario had the worst impact as it has the highest velocity and discharge compared to the other scenarios. The overtopping scenario inundated 355 ha areas along the river. Six villages would become the victims, namely, Bengkala, Bila, Menyali, Jagaraga, Bungkulan, and Kubutambahan. Tamblang Dam failures’ danger level was figured out in this research according to the PenRis Hazard Classification of Dams in Indonesia. For this case, it is found that 2527 residents are at immediate risk of flooding caused by the failures. Therefore, following the Danger Classification from the Public Work and Housing Guidelines of Indonesia, it can be stated that the Tamblang Dam is a 4-class dam with an extremely high danger status level.

This paper presents the smart parking system using NodeMCU ESP8266 for web-based car reservation in public areas. Conventional parking system made car users take a long time to find the parking in public areas like shopping centers or malls. Therefore, its necessary to overcome this problem by implementing the smart parking system of car reservation. The system prototype integrates the Internet of Things (IoT) technology, NodeMCU ESP8266 (microcontroller), Ultrasonic Sensor HC-SR04 (vehicle detector sensor in parking area), IR obstacle sensor (entry and exit), SG90 Servo (at the entry and exit gate) and Firebase to create a real-time database connected to a web platform. The system provides real-time slot availability information via the web platform and LCD as information at the entrance gate. Users can easily make and cancel reservations with additional features such as OTP verification, and automatic booking cancellation have been successfully implemented. The prototype test method consist of calibration test, sending OTP test, automatic booking cancellation test and manual booking cancellation test. The result of calibration test on 10 cm range have a 80% success rate for ultrasonic sensor 1 as well as the result of ultrasonic sensor 2. While, additional features test result such as sending OTP, automatic booking cancellation, and manual booking cancellation having 100% success rate. It can be concluded that this prototype is successfully implemented and reach the goals with minimum error can be tolerated. The authors suggest to adding a keypad and payment system to this prototype for improvement in the future.

Health Service, also referred to as Health Care System, plays a pivotal role in maintaining and enhancing health by preventing illnesses and injuries. In this context, electronic health records are essential for both inpatients and outpatients, serving as a crucial tool for healthcare providers and policymakers. However, the potential of these records extends beyond individual care to support broader health policy and research initiatives. Personal Smart Health Care, an individual-based digital health technology, bridges the gap between personal health management and medical records, enabling comprehensive healthcare improvements. Smart healthcare, driven by technologies like IoT, mobile applications, cloud computing, big data, 5G, artificial intelligence, and biotechnology, offers a holistic approach to healthcare, emphasizing diagnosis, treatment, disease prevention, risk monitoring, and virtual assistance. An intelligent framework for smart healthcare includes four layers: The instrumentation layer, information system layer, business intelligence layer, and gamification layer, each contributing to enhanced patient outcomes, streamlined processes, and improved patient care. The gamification layer incentivizes healthy behaviors and fosters patient engagement, especially in healthcare scenarios. This comprehensive framework underscores the transformative potential of smart healthcare, where technology-driven solutions can revolutionize the healthcare landscape, improving patient care, health management, and the overall well-being of individuals and populations. © 2023 IEEE.

Technology advancements in energy harvesting have been sparked by increasing demand for renewable energy sources that are sustainable. This research work outlines the development and experiment of a prototype of piezoelectric voltage generation for energy harvesting from human footsteps. The study addresses the feasibility of generating electricity by converting mechanical energy from the vibrations generated by foot traffic in public areas such as stairs and entrance doors. The objectives of this study are to implement a sustainable and efficient method of generating electricity using piezoelectric materials, explore, and also optimize the mechanical design of the prototype to maximize the conversion of mechanical energy into electrical energy. The proposed system was developed on 2 different devices which are Tile A (25 parallel and 5 series sensor connections) and Tile B (20 parallel and 5 series sensor connections) and tested under different circumstances such as different tile placements, weights, and conditions which are 100, 200, and 300 steps to address the consistency on each predetermined parameter. Furthermore, the final system has the highest voltage generated up to 0.98 V from tile A and 2.54 V from tile B. This is due to the different approach of human footsteps when stepping on stairs and entrance door.

Data Encryption Standard (DES) is a symmetric encryption algorithm that uses a single key to encrypt and decrypt information. In addition, the cipher text will be hidden inside an image using Stepic. DES Encryption use symmetric encryption to encrypt and decryption to decrypt. It will secure the symmetric encryption and maintain the speed of the encryption and decryption. The result of this study is the lowest error that we got as the Mean Square Error (MSE) is 0.00% and is inversely proportional with the Peak Signal to Noise Ratio (PSNR) and Avalanche with 79.36% and 34.91% in order that is not stable for result of Avalanche Effect (AVA). Inversely proportional to the length of the text that is hidden in the image, the longest text that is hidden, the more changes that we get in the image with the highest Unified Average Changing Intensity (UACI) and Number of Pixels Change Rate (NPCR) with the biggest image size with 43.47% for UACI and 99.87% for the NPCR. © 2023 IEEE.

This research aims to construct a two-dimensional image to represent an underwater geometry map with a Side Scan Sonar (SSS) mounted on a Hybrid Autonomous Underwater Glider (HAUG). Building the underwater map has two stages of the process. The first stage is preprocessing which includes Time-varying gains (TVG), slant range correction, and ground range correction. The second is HAUG navigation, the movement of HAUG orientation to the angle and distance of SSS readings and plotting the geometry of the grid map. With these two stages, a two-dimensional grid map will be formed. Meanwhile, the 3D plot utilizes slant range and ground range correction to obtain the surface height of the bottom of the pool. From the experiments conducted to conduct mapping in the pool, two-dimensional and three-dimensional visual forms of the pool floor and pool walls were produced. The results of the estimated measurement of the width of the pool obtained 14.05 meters and the height of the pool 3.199 meters with an SSS beam angle of 58 degrees. © 2023 IEEE.

Total dissolved solids (TDS) consisting of inorganic salts and organic matter are pollutants to the aquatic and water systems for human use. This paper studied the effect of ceramic adsorbent composition on improving the quality of the produced water (PW) by decreasing TDS before entering reverse osmosis (RO). Manufacturing ceramic adsorbents use a mixture of spent catalysts of residues catalytic cracking (RCC) and natural clay in various compositions. Experiments were performed using the PW from one oil and gas company in South Sumatra, Indonesia. The initial characterization of produced water contains total dissolved solids of 14,556 mg/L. The flow rate of PW into the ceramic adsorbent column were varied from 6 to 8 L/min at a contact time of 15 to 120 min. The results showed that ceramic adsorbent A (diameter 10 mm and thickness 10 mm, 70% clay, and 30% RCC) reduced TDS by 74.58%. Adsorbent B (diameter of 20 mm and thickness of 10 mm, 70% RCC and 30% clay) lowers TDS by 56.68% at a flow rate of 6 L/min and a contact time of 60 min. Adsorbent C (diameter of 10 mm and thickness of 10 mm, 30% clay, and 70% RCC) reduced TDS by 59.40% at a flow rate of 6 L/min and a flow time of 60 min. Adsorbent D (diameter of 20 mm, thickness of 10 mm, 30% clay, and 70% RCC) lowers TDS by 54.38% at a flow rate of 6 L/ min and a contact time of 60 min. After being transferred into the adsorption column, their filtrates were sent into the Reverse Osmosis (RO) membrane. The final permeates of RO have TDS values between 1,720 mg/L to 3,930 mg/L that met water standards for oil and gas exploration wastewater in Indonesia. © 2023 The Authors. All rights reserved.

The Langat River Basin in Malaysia is vulnerable to soil erosion risks because of its exposure to intensive land use activities and its topography,which primarily consists of steep slopes and mountainous ***,climate change frequently exposes this basin to drought,which negatively affects soil and water ***,recent studies have rarely shown how soil reacts to drought,such as soil ***,the purpose of this study is to evaluate the relationship between drought and soil erosion in the Langat River *** analyzed drought indices using Landsat 8 satellite images in November 2021,and created the normalized differential water index(NDWI)via Landsat 8 data to produce a drought *** used the revised universal soil loss equation(RUSLE)model to predict soil *** verified an association between the NDWI and soil erosion data using a correlation *** results revealed that the southern and northern regions of the study area experienced drought *** predicted an average annual soil erosion of approximately 58.11 t/(hm^(2)·a).Analysis of the association between the NDWI and soil erosion revealed a strong positive correlation,with a Pearson correlation coefficient of *** assumed that the slope length and steepness factor was the primary contributor to soil erosion in the study *** a result,these findings can help authorities plan effective measures to reduce the impacts of drought and soil erosion in the future.

This research investigates the application of sparse logistic regression for predicting academic success, utilizing engagement data from 410 students across 85,280 learning sessions. Sparse logistic regression, which effectively manages large, feature-rich datasets by eliminating non-essential variables, proved superior to traditional logistic regression in this context. Our analysis focused on three core metrics of student engagement: interaction, feedback, and participation. The study's findings indicate a robust positive correlation between both student interaction and participation with academic achievement, underscoring the critical importance of active engagement in educational success. In contrast, feedback did not significantly impact academic performance, suggesting its influence might be conditional or less directly related to measurable academic outcomes. The advantage of sparse logistic regression in our study highlights its potential as an effective tool for educational data analysis, particularly in environments burdened by high-dimensional data. These results advocate for educational strategies that prioritize interactive and participatory learning experiences over traditional feedback-focused approaches. © 2024 IEEE.

In 2022, Indonesia initiated a pilot project to transition from liquid petroleum gas (LPG) stoves to induction stoves, targeting 8.2 million households by 2025. While LPG is considered a clean cooking fuel by the World Health Organization due to its low PM2.5 emissions, this program aims to further reduce CO2 emissions from cooking activities, aligning with Indonesia’s clean energy transition and 2060 Net Zero Emission goals. Throughout the program, doubts and criticisms arose among various sectors of society, particularly concerning the sustainability of this program. This research aims to determine and analyze the driving factors that support the sustainability of the induction stove transition program. Five sustainability aspects, namely, economic, social, environmental, technical, and institutional, were analyzed. A total of 315 Indonesian citizens participated as respondents in this research survey. The Partial Least Squares-Structural Equation Model (PLS–SEM) method was utilized as the analytical approach for the study. The results revealed that nine factors significantly influenced program sustainability, with the strongest impacts from technology costs (path coefficient = 0.859), contextual factors (0.803), electrical infrastructure (0.792), and community perception (0.773). Economic sustainability was driven by technology costs and business opportunities (0.643), while environmental sustainability was strongly influenced by electrical infrastructure. Post-installation support (0.307) and financial management (0.391) significantly impacted technical and institutional sustainability respectively. These empirical findings improve previous research on the sustainability of an energy transition program, which provides insights for researchers and stakeholders in the energy management field, especially in developing countries, for policy determination and decision-making. © 2025, Aalborg University Press.
