The comparison effect of CPP-ACP containing propolis and CPP-ACP without propolis on the number of Streptococcus mutans in white-spot enamel surface

Background: The use of CPP-ACP combined with antibacterial propolis agents has not been widely observed and developed. Objective: To compare the effect of CPP-ACP containing propolis and CPP-ACP without propolis on the number of Streptococcus mutans in white-spot enamel surfaces of children aged 7 to 9 years old. Method: Design study was quasi-experimental using one group pretest-posttest design. The subjects were 32 students age 7-9 year old who had white-spot in enamel surfaces were divided into two groups. The two young dentists as examiner were calibrated by Kappa result was 0.82. Both groups carried out baseline on the variable number of S. mutans, which then one group was applied with CPP-ACP propolis paste and other group was applied with CPP-ACP without propolis every day for 4 weeks, then finally, data collection was carried out afterwards, the differences effect were statistically analyzed with T-Test and Wilcoxon. Results: There was a significant decrease (28% from applied CPP-ACP propolis, and 26% applied CPP-ACP without propolis) in the number of S. mutans from each treatment group (p < 0.05). However, there was no significant difference of effect CPP-ACP propolis compared to effect CPP-ACP without propolis in decreasing the number of Streptococcus mutan (p > 0.05). Conclusion: CPP-ACP containing propolis is not proven to be better than CPP-ACP without propolis in the decreasing number of Streptococcus mutans, yet it has the potential to be used as an alternative preventive material that could prevent demineralization and improve remineralization of white-spot in enamel surfaces.

There has been a growing interest in Health informatics applications, research, and education within the Middle East and North African Region over the past twenty years. People of this region share similar cultural and religious values, primarily speak the Arabic language, and have similar health care related issues, which are in dire need of being addressed. Health informatics efforts, organizations, and initiatives within the region have been largely under-represented within, but not ignored by, the International Medical informatics Association (IMIA). Attempts to create bonds and collaboration between the different organizations of the region have remained scattered, and often, resulted in failure despite the fact that the need for a united health informatics collaborative within the region has never been more crucial than today. During the 2017 MEDINFO, held in Hangzhou, China, a new organization, the Middle East and North African Health informatics Association (MENAHIA) was conceived as a regional non-governmental organization to promote and facilitate health informatics uptake within the region endorsing health informatics research and educational initiatives of the 22 countries represented within the region. This paper provides an overview of the collaboration and efforts to date in forming MENAHIA and displays the variety of initiatives that are already occurring within the MENAHIA region, which MENAHIA will help, endorse, support, share, and improve within the international forum of health informatics.

The scoreboard is designed and made for a universal use that can be used in matches in some sports such as basketball, futsal, ping pong, badminton, and others. The scoreboard is designed and made based on the needs of several sports in the Student Activity Unit at HKBP Nommensen University which can be easily moved. Scores displayed on the scoreboard is not only the result of the game but also displayed time in the countdown. This scoreboard can be operated by using a cable and can also without using a cable by using a mobile phone through communication using bluetooth. This scoreboard is based on a microcontroller and uses backup power through rechargeable batteries that can be automatically charged. In trials in several games, this tool works well with a few drawbacks in case of a match that takes more than 100 minutes because the time display can only display a maximum time of 99 minutes.

The oxidation behaviour of ZrO2 nanoparticles added to Fe-18Al alloy has been studied. Isothermal oxidation behaviour with various temperatures and times was investigated and the results of microstructure showed the presence of Fe3Al intermetallic phases in grey color, Al2O3 oxide in white color, and the porosity indicated by dark color. The results of XRD and SEM-EDS analysis also confirmed the presence of the ZrO2 nanoparticles in addition to Fe3Al intermetallic phases and Al2O3 oxide phases. The addition of ZrO2 nanoparticles tended to decrease oxidation rate by promoting Al2O3 layers.

The Cherenkov Telescope Array (CTA) is the future ground-based gamma-ray observatory and will be composed of two arrays of imaging atmospheric Cherenkov telescopes (IACTs) located in the Northern and Southern hemispheres respectively. The first CTA prototype telescope built on-site, the Large-Sized Telescope (LST-1), is under commissioning in La Palma and has already taken data on numerous known sources. IACTs detect the faint flash of Cherenkov light indirectly produced after a very energetic gamma-ray photon has interacted with the atmosphere and generated an atmospheric shower. Reconstruction of the characteristics of the primary photons is usually done using a parameterization up to the third order of the light distribution of the images. In order to go beyond this classical method, new approaches are being developed using state-of-the-art methods based on convolutional neural networks (CNN) to reconstruct the properties of each event (incoming direction, energy and particle type) directly from the telescope images. While promising, these methods are notoriously difficult to apply to real data due to differences (such as different levels of night sky background) between Monte Carlo (MC) data used to train the network and real data. The GammaLearn project, based on these CNN approaches, has already shown an increase in sensitivity on MC simulations for LST-1 as well as a lower energy threshold. This work applies the GammaLearn network to real data acquired by LST-1 and compares the results to the classical approach that uses random forests trained on extracted image parameters. Augmented Reality is a technology that allows users to see the real world, with virtual objects placed on it or combined with the real world. Augmented Reality itself can be applied to various things, including as an educational media. In the field of education, technology can be used a culture introduction to society. One part of Indonesian culture is traditional houses. Traditional house is a building that symbolizes the culture of the local community. In North Sumatra itself, there are several traditional houses that have different forms. The use of Vuforia SDK in the construction of this application can display augmented objects in the form of 3-dimentional objects and also provide information on the house. This application will run on the Android mobile platform to make it easier for users to access it. In addition, users can choose their own objects to be used as markers to make the application use much easier.

Detecting the Diffuse Supernova Neutrino Background at Super-Kamiokande requires designing state-of-the-art background removal technique to reject radioactivity induced by cosmic muon spallation, and identify atmospheric neutrino interactions. Identifying the neutron produced by the interaction of DSNB antineutrinos would allow to remove most of these backgrounds, but is particularly challenging in pure water. With the advent of the SK-Gd era, with Gadolinium being dissolved in the SK water, the efficiency of the neutron tagging procedure will increase dramatically, and the SK experiment will make significant gains in its sensitivity to the DSNB. Super-Kamiokande (SK) is a 50-kt water Cherenkov detector, instrumented with ∼ 13k photo-multipliers and running since 1996. It is sensitive to neutrinos with energies ranging from 4.5 MeV to several TeV. A new framework has been developed for the follow-up of gravitational wave (GW) alerts issued by the LIGO-Virgo collaboration (LVC). Neutrinos are searched for, using a 1000-second time window centered on the alert time and in both SK low-energy and high-energy samples. Such observation can then be used to constrain the neutrino emission from the GW source. The significance of potential signals has been obtained by comparing neutrino direction with the localization of the GW. The computation of limits on incoming neutrino flux and on the total energy emitted in neutrinos by the source has been performed for the different neutrino flavors. PPFIA3 encodes the protein-tyrosine phosphatase, receptor-type, F-polypeptide-interacting-protein-alpha-3 (PPFIA3), which is a member of the LAR-protein-tyrosine phosphatase-interacting-protein (liprin) family involved in synapse formation and function, synaptic vesicle transport, and presynaptic active zone assembly. The protein structure and function are evolutionarily well conserved, but human diseases related to PPFIA3 dysfunction are not yet reported in OMIM. Here, we report 20 individuals with rare PPFIA3 variants (19 heterozygous and 1 compound heterozygous) presenting with developmental delay, intellectual disability, hypotonia, dysmorphisms, microcephaly or macrocephaly, autistic features, and epilepsy with reduced penetrance. Seventeen unique PPFIA3 variants were detected in 18 families. To determine the pathogenicity of PPFIA3 variants in vivo, we generated transgenic fruit flies producing either human wild-type (WT) PPFIA3 or five missense variants using GAL4-UAS targeted gene expression systems. In the fly overexpression assays, we found that the PPFIA3 variants in the region encoding the N-terminal coiled-coil domain exhibited stronger phenotypes compared to those affecting the C-terminal region. In the loss-of-function fly assay, we show that the homozygous loss of fly Liprin-α leads to embryonic lethality. This lethality is partially rescued by the expression of human PPFIA3 WT, suggesting human PPFIA3 function is partially conserved in the fly. However, two of the tested variants failed to rescue the lethality at the larval stage and one variant failed to rescue lethality at the adult stage. Altogether, the human and fruit fly data reveal that the rare PPFIA3 variants are dominant-negative loss-of-function alleles that perturb multiple developmental processes and synapse formation.
