Hypocenter relocation of earthquake swarm around Jailolo volcano, North Molucca, Indonesia using the BMKG network data: Time periods of September 27-October 10, 2017

A year after the hundreds of earthquake swarm last year (2015-2016), recent swarm activity in Jailolo, north of Maluku area, Indonesia began to reactivated. We have successfully relocated 108 out of the 130 earthquake swarm from September 27 to October 10, 2017 by using the BMKG network data through hypocenter double-difference method. The results indicate improvement in hypocenter location, where the initial earthquake focal depths fixed at a depth of 10 km has been updated. A validation through the histogram of travel-time residual depicts good relocation results, in which the residual values are mostly close to zero. The relocated hypocenters are located close to Jailolo volcano area which has focus depths of about 5 – 30 km. We analyzed of waveform of several swarm events (with largest and smallest magnitude) which are recorded by the nearest BMKG station and show has frequency range of 2 to 8 Hz. Our preliminary interpretation, these swarm events probably associated with stress change due to combination of tectonic and deep magma activity in the area.

OT 081 is a luminous blazar well known for its variability in many energy bands. The very-high-energy (VHE;E > 100 GeV) gamma-ray emission from the source was discovered by MAGIC and H.E.S.S. during flaring activity in July 2016, after a trigger from the Large Area Telescope (LAT) onboard the Fermi satellite. By analysing the multiwavelength light curves and the broadband spectral energy distribution (SED), we study the activity of the source and investigate four individual states of activity in the window from MJD 57575 to 57602. The intrinsic gamma-ray spectrum can be described by a power law with spectral indices of 3.27 ± 0.44 (MAGIC) and 3.39 ± 0.58 (H.E.S.S.) over energy ranges 60-300 GeV and 120-500 GeV, respectively. The combined contemporaneous high-energy (HE;E > 100 MeV) through VHE SED shows curvature and can be described by a log-parabola shape. A simple one-zone synchrotron self-Compton (SSC) model is not sufficient to describe the broadband SED. The presence of broad emission lines in the optical spectrum of the source challenges the categorisation of OT 081 as a BL Lac and, together with the emission scenarios tested, points to the possibility that the source is transitional in nature between a BL Lac and a flat-spectrum radio quasar. © Copyright owned by the author(s) under the terms of the Creative Commons.

Thermodynamics properties and combustion performance investigation of higher chain alcohol-RON 92 gasoline system

The increasing consumption of fossil fuel in Indonesia is not followed by the rising on domestic oil production. This will lead to the depletion of fossil fuel reserves that will affect the availability of energy resources. Biofuel is considered as the critical solution to solve this problem in Indonesia. In recent years, alcohol produced from biomass has been used as an oxygenated compound in gasoline to increase the octane number and reduce pollutants resulting from motor vehicle exhaust emissions. However, the use of alcohol as an additive compounds is still limited to ethanol. In fact, the use of higher-chain alcohol such as 1-butanol offers more benefits over ethanol due to its higher calorific value. 1-butanol also has good characteristics for gasoline mixture such as less corrosive than ethanol, more resistant to water contamination, its low vapor pressure which leads to more safety application. This work investigated the effect of 1-butanol addition on the thermodynamic properties of gasoline-ethanol blend, in the form of density values, isobaric expansion coefficient, and the calorific value. The addition of 1-butanol up to 15% weight (80% RON 92-5% ethanol-15% 1-butanol) gives higher density to alcohol-gasoline blend up to 2% compared with pure RON 92 gasoline. Moreover, this addition produces the calorific value of gasoline blend of 11,313 cal/gr compared to pure RON 92 gasoline with the calorific value of 12,117 cal/gram. This blend can reduce the RON 92 gasoline consumption up to 15% from calorific value perspective.

This report reviews the published results of searches for possible additional scalar particles and exotic decays of the Higgs boson performed by the ATLAS Collaboration using up to 140 fb⁻¹ of 13 TeV proton–proton collision data collected during Run 2 of the Large Hadron Collider. Key results are examined, and observed excesses, while never statistically compelling, are noted. Constraints are placed on parameters of several models which extend the Standard Model, for example by adding one or more singlet or doublet fields, or offering exotic Higgs boson decay channels. Summaries of new searches as well as extensions of previous searches are discussed. These new results have a wider reach or attain stronger exclusion limits. New experimental techniques that were developed for these searches are highlighted. Search channels which have not yet been examined are also listed, as these provide insight into possible future areas of exploration. © 2024 The Author(s)

This research discusses the testing and analysis of cracking Aluminum (Al) material. Al as a handle lever was used for a braking device on a motor vehicle. Cracking of handle lever due to the part content of porosity from hydrogen gas. The existence of the H2 can be caused by the casting process and dies design that is less perfect, especially at the gate or brisket and overflow. This research is to optimize the process of making Al part handle lever, and the construction dies by following the standard. The results of these improvements were reevaluated through the chemical and mechanical testing properties stages, such as density test and tensile test on the workpiece as part handle lever. The loads on the tensile test are 25 kg and 35 kg, and the tensile test result has met the standard set by the motor vehicle company. The optimization result has the porosity defect can be reduced by 99 %. Therefore the best part handle lever can be produced.

Differential cross-sections are measured for the production of four charged leptons in association with two jets. These measurements are sensitive to final states in which the jets are produced via the strong interaction as well as to the purely-electroweak vector boson scattering process. The analysis is performed using proton-proton collision data collected by ATLAS at s = 13 TeV and with an integrated luminosity of 140 fb⁻¹. The data are corrected for the effects of detector inefficiency and resolution and are compared to state-of-the-art Monte Carlo event generator predictions. The differential cross-sections are used to search for anomalous weak-boson self-interactions that are induced by dimension-six and dimension-eight operators in Standard Model effective field theory. © The Author(s) 2024.

PG 1553+113 is one of the few blazars with a convincing quasi-periodic emission in the gamma-ray band. The source is also a very high-energy (VHE;>100 GeV) gamma-ray emitter. To better understand its properties and identify the underlying physical processes driving its variability, the MAGIC Collaboration initiated a multiyear, multiwavelength monitoring campaign in 2015 involving the OVRO 40-m and Medicina radio telescopes, REM, KVA, and the MAGIC telescopes, Swift and Fermi satellites, and the WEBT network. The analysis presented in this paper uses data until 2017 and focuses on the characterization of the variability. The gamma-ray data show a (hint of a) periodic signal compatible with literature, but the X-ray and VHE gamma-ray data do not show statistical evidence for a periodic signal. In other bands, the data are compatible with the gamma-ray period, but with a relatively high p-value. The complex connection between the low and high-energy emission and the non-monochromatic modulation and changes in flux suggests that a simple one-zone model is unable to explain all the variability. Instead, a model including a periodic component along with multiple emission zones is required. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

A search for R-parity-violating supersymmetry in final states with high jet multiplicity is presented. The search uses 140 fb⁻¹ of proton-proton collision data at s = 13 TeV collected by the ATLAS experiment during Run 2 of the Large Hadron Collider. The results are interpreted in the context of R-parity-violating supersymmetry models that feature prompt gluino-pair production decaying directly to three jets each or decaying to two jets and a neutralino which subsequently decays promptly to three jets. No significant excess over the Standard Model expectation is observed and exclusion limits at the 95% confidence level are extracted. Gluinos with masses up to 1800 GeV are excluded when decaying directly to three jets. In the cascade scenario, gluinos with masses up to 2340 GeV are excluded for a neutralino with mass up to 1250 GeV. © The Author(s) 2024.
