Evaluation of Time-Difference-of-Arrival Error of Acoustic Beacons Caused by Velocity of Microphone Array

In this paper, we described a criterion of estimating the quality of time-difference-of-arrival (TDOA) estimation with a moving microphone array. The microphone array was supposed to receive a known signal from an acoustic beacon which transmitted a binary code with binary phase shift keying (BPSK). The movement of the microphone array may cause two kinds of error on the TDOA estimation; physical change of TDOA caused by the movement, and apparent change caused by the lower correlation values of Doppler-shifted signals. For evaluating the latter error, we employed the peak to average power ratio (PAPR) of the cross correlation function. The Doppler effect on TDOA error were evaluated with a computer simulation. The microphone array was moved at -2 to 2 m/s, covering the velocity range of indoor mobile robot. Besides the velocity, following three parameters of the sound were investigated. The types of the code for evaluation were chosen as M-, Gold and Kasami sequences, carrier frequencies were 0-40 kHz, and chip rates of the binary code were 0.5 - 20 kHz. As the results, it was confirmed that if PAPR is lower than a certain value, 40 in this simulation, the peak detection of the cross correlation is difficult and it results in high and unpredictable TDOA errors. Higher chip rates and lower carrier frequencies showed better resilience against the Doppler effect. The proposed criterion may infer the maximum velocities at which TDOA can be estimated without any measure against the Doppler effect for realistic parameters. This criterion would contribute to the on-line evaluation of the quality of TDOA, which may be beneficial for estimating sound direction of arrival.

The ratio of branching ratios of the W boson to muons and electrons, $$R^{\,\mu /e}_W={{\mathcal {B}}(W\rightarrow \mu \nu )}$$ / $${{\mathcal {B}}(W\rightarrow e\nu )}$$ , has been measured using $$140\,\text{ fb}^{-1}\,$$ of pp collision data at $$\sqrt{s}=13$$ $$\text {T}\text {e}\hspace{-1.00006pt}\text {V}$$ collected with the ATLAS detector at the LHC, probing the universality of lepton couplings. The ratio is obtained from measurements of the $$t\bar{t}$$ production cross-section in the ee, $$e\mu $$ and $$\mu \mu $$ dilepton final states. To reduce systematic uncertainties, it is normalised by the square root of the corresponding ratio $$R^{\,\mu \mu /ee}_Z$$ for the Z boson measured in inclusive $$Z\rightarrow ee$$ and $$Z\rightarrow \mu \mu $$ events. By using the precise value of $$R^{\,\mu \mu /ee}_Z$$ determined from $$e^+e^-$$ colliders, the ratio $$R^{\,\mu /e}_W$$ is determined to be $$\begin{aligned} R^{\,\mu /e}_W&= 0.9995\pm 0.0022\,\mathrm {(stat)}\,\pm 0.0036\,\mathrm {(syst)}\\ &\quad \pm 0.0014\,\mathrm {(ext)} . \end{aligned}$$ The three uncertainties correspond to data statistics, experimental systematics and the external measurement of $$R^{\,\mu \mu /ee}_Z$$ , giving a total uncertainty of 0.0045, and confirming the Standard Model assumption of lepton flavour universality in W-boson decays at the 0.5% level.

Sanseviera trifasciata commonly called mother-in-law tongue also known as snake plant is native to Indonesia, India and Africa. Sansevieria is a new fiber in composite research and has showed promising properties as reinforcement material in polymer matrix composites. Chemical treatment on reinforcing fiber is crucial to reduce hydrophilic tendency and thus improve compatibility with the matrix. In this study, effect of maleic anhydride as chemical treatment on the mechanical properties of Sansevieria fiber/vinyl ester composite was investigated. Sansevieria fibers were immersed by using NaOH 3% for two hours at 100°C and then treated by using maleic anhydrate for two hours at 120°C. Composites were prepared by solution casting with various volume fractions of fiber; 0%, 2.5%, 5%, 7.5% and 10%. Actual density, volume fraction of void and mechanical properties of composite were conducted according to ASTM standard testing methods D792, D3171 and D3039. It was found that mechanical properties of composites increased as volume fractions of fiber was increased. The highest tensile strength and modulus of elasticity of composites were 57.45 MPa and 3.47 GPa respectively, obtained from composites with volume fraction of fiber 10%.

Context. Imaging atmospheric Cherenkov telescopes (IACTs) are used to observe very high-energy photons from the ground. Gamma rays are indirectly detected through the Cherenkov light emitted by the air showers they induce. The new generation of experiments, in particular the Cherenkov Telescope Array Observatory (CTAO), sets ambitious goals for discoveries of new gamma-ray sources and precise measurements of the already discovered ones. To achieve these goals, both hardware and data analysis must employ cutting-edge techniques. This also applies to the LST-1, the first IACT built for the CTAO, which is currently taking data on the Canary island of La Palma. Aims. This paper introduces a new event reconstruction technique for IACT data, aiming to improve the image reconstruction quality and the discrimination between the signal and the background from misidentified hadrons and electrons. Methods. The technique models the development of the extensive air shower signal, recorded as a waveform per pixel, seen by CTAO telescopes’ cameras. Model parameters are subsequently passed to random forest regressors and classifiers to extract information on the primary particle. Results. The new reconstruction was applied to simulated data and to data from observations of the Crab Nebula performed by the LST-1. The event reconstruction method presented here shows promising performance improvements. The angular and energy resolution, and the sensitivity, are improved by 10 to 20% over most of the energy range. At low energy, improvements reach up to 22%, 47%, and 50%, respectively. A future extension of the method to stereoscopic analysis for telescope arrays will be the next important step. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

The first loading of gadolinium (Gd) into Super-Kamiokande in 2020 was successful, and the neutron capture efficiency on Gd reached 50%. To further increase the Gd neutron capture efficiency to 75%, 26.1 tons of Gd2(SO4)3·8H2O was additionally loaded into Super-Kamiokande (SK) from May 31 to July 4, 2022. As the amount of loaded Gd2(SO4)3·8H2O was doubled compared to the first loading, the capacity of the powder dissolving system was doubled. We also developed new batches of gadolinium sulfate with even further reduced radioactive impurities. In addition, a more efficient screening method was devised and implemented to evaluate these new batches of Gd2(SO4)3 · 8H2O . Following the second loading, the Gd concentration in SK was measured to be 333.5 ±2.5 ppm via an Atomic Absorption Spectrometer (AAS). From the mean neutron capture time constant of neutrons from an Am/Be calibration source, the Gd concentration was independently measured to be 332.7 ± 6.8(sys.) ± 1.1(stat.) ppm, consistent with the AAS result. Furthermore, during the loading the Gd concentration was monitored continually using the capture time constant of each spallation neutron produced by cosmic-ray muons, and the final neutron capture efficiency was shown to become 1.5 times higher than that of the first loaded phase, as expected. study the influence of high concentrations of antioxidants N-isopropyl-N-phenyl-p-phenylenediamine (IPPD) and 2,2,4-trimethyl-1,2-dihydroquinoline (TMQ) and the mixing time of the vulcanization physical properties, thermal properties, mechanical properties and structure micro on natural rubber compound has been done. The purpose of this study is to compare the effect of anti-oxidants types IPPD and TMQ and mixing time of vulcanization of the physical properties, mechanical properties, microstructure and elemental composition of the synthesis of natural rubber compound. Processes of vulcanization with variations in the concentration of antioxidant IPPD and TMQ: 2, 3, and 4 grams and mixing time: 20, 30, and 40 minutes. Analysis characterization of physical properties and mechanical properties of natural rubber compound showed that the maturity value 0,499Nm (TMQ) and 0.489 Nm (IPPD), Mooney viscosity value of 26.7 (TMQ) and 20.8 (IPPD), the value of the elongation at break 583.75 % (IPPD), and 552.63% (TMQ) as well as the value of tensile strength of 28.108 *** (TMQ), and 27.986 *** (IPPD). Analysis of thermal properties of natural rubber compound antioxidant IPPD with DTA shows there are three endothermic peak on the curve that is temperature 405°C, 550°C and 660°C and tested by TGA showed that the curve of the total reduction in the sample are 81.745% and compound rubber antioxidant TMQ with the analysis of DTA also contained 3 endothermic peak at a temperature 397,21°C, 514,02°C, and 610,27°C and TGA analysis shows the curve of the total sample of 82.356% reduction. Gsi fun group analysis rubber-antioxidant compound IPPD / TMQ with FTIR spectrophotometer shows some typical infrared absorption peak at the wave number (1 / λ) 833-895 cm-1 for cluster / CH bonds, 1,313 cm-1 for group / single bond Si-O, 1368 cm-1 to g ugus / single bond CC, 1507 cm-1, for cluster / bond C = C, 1665 cm-1For cluster / bond-C = O, 2128 cm-1 is the group / bond CN single, 3371cm-1 for

At the Unit Laka Lantas Polres Lhokseumawe determining accident-prone areas on roads in Lhokseumawe still using manual systems. Determination of accident-prone areas are less effective because the police Unit Laka Lantas Polres Lhokseumawe just using the data of the last year and had to repeatedly calculate manually accident-prone areas based on the number of human casualties. In this study the system implementation CUSUM method (Cummulative Summary) to determine the accident-prone areas designed using the web-based programming language PHP. In this system there are three processes to determine areas prone to accidents, the accident rate calculations based on the weighted severity, blacksite calculations using the Z-Score method for determining areas prone to accident blackspots and calculations using the CUSUM method to determine the critical points of an accident. The data used are secondary data obtained from the Police Unit Laka Lantas Polres Lhokseumawe years 2009-2013.

In anticipating damages to buildings caused by earthquakes, many types of building constructions have been developed and studied. One of these is eccentrically braced frames that uses the link element as part of the structural element that serves to absorb seismic energy. When tested for its ductility, strength, rigidity and energy absorption, the long link performed more poorly compared to short ones. However, advantages of using long links includes space for architectural design and the ease of meeting building requirements. The focus of this study is to provide information on using supplemental double stiffeners on both sides of the web at the ends of long links. The behavior of long links is maintained by positioning the flange failures at the end of the link. The supplemental double stiffeners can improve performance of the long link due to the extension of the inelastic zone and the slowing of failure in the flange at both ends of the link. A numerical study was carried out on several specimens of the long link consisting of a standard specimen and specimens modified by the addition of supplemental double stiffeners. Long link specimens were modified by varying the thickness and hole width on the supplemental double stiffeners. The results showed that the addition of double stiffeners can improve the performance of long links compared to the standard link according to the requirements of AISC 341-10.

Geochemical study of pyroclastic rocks in Maninjau Lake, West Sumatra

Maninjau area situated in Barisan Mountain range was a central of volcanic eruption during Plistocene-Holocene. Eruption of Maninjau volcano resulted in andesitic lava flows, and pyroclastic flows. Maninjau deposites accummulated around Maninjau Lake are covered by andesitic rocks. This Plistocene - Holocene volcano might have a close link with Semangko fault (Sumatra Fault). Pyroclastic rocks in the study area predominantly consist of pumice deposites with some crystals of plagioclase ± quartz ± pyroxene + hornblende + andesitic, lithics and glass shards. These deposites are slightly unwelded and mostly weathered. On the basis of its chemical composistion, Maninjau deposite can be divided into Ryolitic Pumiceous Tuff (Ignembrite Maninjau) and Andesitic Pumiceous Tuff (Tephra) deposites. Ignembrite Maninjau deposite is characterized by the occurrence of high-K rhyolite, whereas Tephra deposite is able to be grouped into calc-alkaline andesite. In general, these deposites have major elements with various silisic contents; this sugests that Maninjau deposites originated from heterogeneous magmas, and was erupted from a magma chamber. The relationship between SiO2 and another oxide shows negative correlation except Na2O. Pumice deposites contain various high trace elements, suggesting that the source of magma was likely from the subducted slab of oceanic plate underneath an active continental margin.
