The management of electronics waste and the development of sustainable end-of-life strategies are key aspects of the green evolution of the electronics industry. To address this global issue, we implemented thin-film resistance temperature detectors (RTDs) using green sensing metals, such as Mg, Mo, and Zn, and poly-ether ether ketone (PEEK), as a biocompatible, flexible, and thermally resistant substrate. The environmentally friendly RTDs were characterized in a range of temperature, from 25 °C to 70 °C, showing consistent response and average sensitivities of 1.1×10-1%/°C, 7×10-2 %/°C, and 5.8×10-2%/°C for Mg, Mo, and Zn, respectively. At a constant temperature 25 °C, the effect of humidity variation from 10% to 90% on the resistance of the sensors was observed to be 2.0×10-5 %/relative humidity (RH), 3.4×10-2%/RH, and 5×10-3 %/RH, respectively, for Mg, Mo, and Zn RTDs. Furthermore, the sensor's response to mechanical strain was evaluated by bending the devices down to a 10-mm bending radius. In addition, the dissolution of the green RTDs in water allows the reusability of the substrate for a new fabrication batch, minimizing the amount of electronics waste generated. Through this study, a promising solution to environmental concerns, realizing is endowed for realizing temperature sensors, with applications in green and sustainable wearable systems is demonstrated. © 2022 IEEE.

Knowledge acquisition is important for innovation and adaptation of organizations including universities. New knowledge and capabilities can be acquired from inside or outside of the institution. There are large body of literature discuss the interaction of universities and the other Triple-helix model's agents, but rarely found and discuss intra helices interactions. This research explores the characteristics of Indonesian academic inventors' knowledge acquisition strategy for patenting in Indonesia. There are two points of view of this research: firstly, the study discusses the knowledge acquisition strategy of Indonesian universities in regard of the knowledge diversity among two collaborating universities and secondly, how is the magnitude of knowledge gaps between two entities influencing the decision for inhouse or out of university *** the data from Sinta, knowledge diversity index is measured using Shannon entropy index of the academic inventor' expertise, university's department, and university's division. The research recognition's gap between two collaborating inventors is measured using the difference of their Scopus' h-indices. The findings show some interesting facts of how academic inventors strategize their collaboration patterns. First, interuniversity collaborations for patenting reveal more diversity on the academic inventors' knowledge than those are in intra-university collaborations. Second, collaborations for patenting with different universities expect better knowledge spill-overs than collaborations within a university. But, this knowledge spill-over only significant at individual level but not at institutional level. It seems that individual recognition is more important than institutional recognition when choosing a collaboration partner. © 2023 IEEE.

Improving Harmful Brain Activity Classification Model with Electroencephalography Spectrogram Using Transfer Learning

The classification of harmful brain activity has become a crucial research focus, with great impact on diagnosing and preventing neurological disorders. This study aims to deepen the understanding and improve the identification of harmful brain activity by developing more advanced classification algorithms. By applying transfer learning and data augmentation techniques, this study seeks to improve the accuracy in classifying and detecting abnormal brain patterns, especially those related to seizure conditions and rhythmic and periodic patterns. This research utilises electroencephalography spectrogram data as input to train deep learning models using transfer learning and data augmentation methods. The results showed that applying augmentation techniques and custom transfer learning EfficientnNetV2 to the deep learning model improved the classification accuracy of harmful brain activity. The best model achieved 69% validation accuracy with a validation loss of 0.9603, which is better than the initial model. The contribution of this research is not only significant in the field of electroencephalography signal processing but also has great potential in the development of early detection and intervention systems for various medical conditions related to brain disorders. © 2024, The Authors. A comparison of deep neural network models for cluster cancer patients through somatic point mutations

It is now well-known that genetic mutations contribute to development of tumors, in which at least 15% of cancer patients experience a causative genetic abnormality including De Novo somatic point mutations. This highlights the importance of identifying responsible mutations and the associated biomarkers (e.g., genes) for early detection in high-risk cancer patients. The next-generation sequencing technologies have provided an excellent opportunity for researchers to study associations between De Novo somatic mutations and cancer progression by identifying cancer subtypes and subtype-specific biomarkers. Simple linear classification models have been used for somatic point mutation-based cancer classification (SMCC);however, because of cancer genetic heterogeneity (ranging from 50 to 80%), high data sparsity, and the small number of cancer samples, the simple linear classifiers resulted in poor cancer subtypes classification. In this study, we have evaluated three advanced deep neural network-based classifiers to find and optimized the best model for cancer subtyping. To address the above-mentioned complexity, we have used pre-processing clustered gene filtering (CGF) and indexed sparsity reduction (ISR), regularization methods, a Global-Max-Pooling layer, and an embedding layer. We have evaluated and optimized the three deep learning models CNN, LSTM, and a hybrid model of CNN + LSTM on publicly available TCGA-DeepGene dataset, a re-formulated subset of The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) dataset and tested the performance measurement of these models is 10-cross-validation accuracy. Evaluating all the three models using a same criterion on the test dataset revealed that the CNN, LSTM, and CNN + LSTM have 66.45% accuracy, 40.89% accuracy, and 41.20% accuracy in somatic point mutation-based cancer classification. Based on our results, we propose the CNN model for further experiments on cancer subtyping based on DNA mutations. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive licence

Wireless power transfer (WPT) technology offers the capability to wirelessly charge electronic devices without physical connections. This study delves into the design and analysis of a WPT system with a spiral coil as a crucial component. Existing WPT systems grapple with efficiency, distance limits, and electromagnetic interference, curtailing their broad application. The proposed setup includes a tuned transmitter and receiver with spiral coils to boost efficiency and extend transfer distances. ANSYS software models and configures inductive coils, utilizing a 20-turn copper spiral coil for magnetic induction, which deviates from conventional designs. The aim is to estimate the distance between coils and the copper spiral coil, revealing insights into coil inductance. For instance, employing a 20-turn copper coil with a 0.5 mm diameter, the transmitter coil exhibits a measured inductance of 17.185 μH at a proximity of 10 mm. Similarly, the receiver coil demonstrates the highest inductance value among the tested distances, recording 17.50 μH under identical conditions. Further examination at various distances highlights notable variations. At a 50 mm distance, the transmitter coil's inductance is 17.099 μH, while the receiver coil shows a slightly higher value of 18.273 μH. These findings underscore the sensitivity of inductance to changes in the distance between transmitter and receiver coils. © 2024 IEEE.

Plastic was invented in 1907 by Leo Baekeland who is a Belgian Chemist. Since then, his creation has paved the way for the future of polymers. Nowadays, plastics come in different types with multitude of uses ranging from household storage purpose to medical packaging means. However, it also adversely affects humanity, particularly on the environment and bioplastics is noticeably would be the way forward to achieve a sustainable environment. Bioplastics is synthesized from biomass or other natural material as the new alternative to plastic as it degrades much faster. Eventually, a bioplastic testing kit will be necessary, especially in the market where the use of plastic will be regulated. A prototype test kit based on Arduino and a color sensor was developed to distinguish different plastic types based on their distinct color reactions to specific chemical reagents. The fundamental question was how to create a feasible way to distinguish between cellulose-based, starch-based, biodegradable, and conventional plastics and deal with the accompanying challenges. The reagents applied to the samples included iodine, iodine-CaCl2, and Schultze reagents. Notably, the cellulose-based and starch-based straw samples exhibited a dark purple color change with iodine and dark blue with iodine-CaCl2 and Schultze reagent. In contrast, starch-based singlet bags exhibited brown transforming into purple with iodine and Schultze reagents. Besides, biodegradable, and conventional plastics displayed no color changes with any reagents. The test kit has shown a promising way to assist consumers to make a more informed decision through a simple test. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

Image processing has become an important tool in various fields of human activity. One of its important applications lies in the determination of the size and dimensions of an object. Thus, in the present paper, we deal with the contactless measurement of triangular components, which was found to have certain limitations once performed on a production line in real time. These are (i) low quality output with unclear rotation in the space of a 3D scanner (missing accurate Cartesian coordinate system rotation data) and (ii) fully autonomous measurement for the selected shape of the component (no manual data tweaking as possible in the laboratory). Besides measurement, the application program contains preprocessing, such as segmentation or removing outliers. But we focus on just the key problem of measurement, i.e., finding the best-fitting hyperplane through three preprocessed point clouds and measuring the sides of the triangle projected onto the hyperplane. The problem is solved by orthogonal linear regression utilizing the Principal Component Analysis approach.
