Fiducial and total W± and Z boson cross sections, their ratios and the ratio of top-antitop-quark pair and W-boson fiducial cross sections are measured in proton–proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of s...

Fiducial and total W^± and Z boson cross sections, their ratios and the ratio of top-antitop-quark pair and W-boson fiducial cross sections are measured in proton–proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of s=13.6 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 29 fb⁻¹ of data collected in 2022 by the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider. The measured fiducial cross-section values for W⁺→ℓ⁺ν, W⁻→ℓ⁻ν¯, and Z→ℓ⁺ℓ⁻ (ℓ=e or μ) boson productions are 4250±150 pb, 3310±120 pb, and 744±20 pb, respectively, where the uncertainty is the total uncertainty, including that arising from the luminosity of about 2.2%. The measurements are in agreement with Standard-Model predictions calculated at next-to-next-to-leading-order in α_s, next-to-next-to-leading logarithmic accuracy and next-to-leading-order electroweak accuracy. © 2024 The Author(s)

A search for charged leptons with large impact parameters using 139 fb−1 of s=13 TeV pp collision data from the ATLAS detector at the LHC is presented, addressing a long-standing gap in coverage of possible new physics signatures. Results are consistent with the background prediction. This search provides unique sensitivity to long-lived scalar supersymmetric lepton partners (sleptons). For lifetimes of 0.1 ns, selectron, smuon, and stau masses up to 720, 680, and 340 GeV, respectively, are excluded at 95% confidence level, drastically improving on the previous best limits from LEP.

A search for new phenomena is presented in final states with two leptons and one or no b-tagged jets. The event selection requires the two leptons to have opposite charge, the same flavor (electrons or muons), and a large invariant mass. The analysis is based on the full run-2 proton-proton collision dataset recorded at a center-of-mass energy of s=13 TeV by the ATLAS experiment at the LHC, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 139 fb−1. No significant deviation from the expected background is observed in the data. Inspired by the B-meson decay anomalies, a four-fermion contact interaction between two quarks (b, s) and two leptons (ee or μμ) is used as a benchmark signal model, which is characterized by the energy scale and coupling, Λ and g*, respectively. Contact interactions with Λ/g* lower than 2.0 (2.4) TeV are excluded for electrons (muons) at the 95% confidence level, still far below the value that is favored by the B-meson decay anomalies. Model-independent limits are set as a function of the minimum dilepton invariant mass, which allow the results to be reinterpreted in various signal scenarios.

This study aims to analyze the potential aplication of of palm oil-based foaming agent as peat fires fighter in Indonesia. From literature review, it has been known that the foaming agent able to form foam to extinguish fire, wrap and refrigerate the burning peat. It is necessary to develop the production and application of foaming agent in Indonesia because peat fires occur almost every year that caused smoke haze. Potential raw material for the production of environmental friendly foaming agent as foam extinguishing for peat fires in Indonesia aong other is palm oil due to abundant availability, sustainable, and foam product easily degraded in the environment of the burnt areas. Production of foaming agent as fire-fighting in Indonesia is one alternative to reduce the time to control the fire and smog disaster impact. Application of palm oil as a raw material for fire-fighting is contribute to increase the value added and the development of palm oil downstream industry.

A search for lepton-flavor-violating Z→eτ and Z→μτ decays with pp collision data recorded by the ATLAS detector at the LHC is presented. This analysis uses 139 fb−1 of Run 2 pp collisions at s=13 TeV and is combined with the results of a similar ATLAS search in the final state in which the τ lepton decays hadronically, using the same data set as well as Run 1 data. The addition of leptonically decaying τ leptons significantly improves the sensitivity reach for Z→ℓτ decays. The Z→ℓτ branching fractions are constrained in this analysis to B(Z→eτ)<7.0×10−6 and B(Z→μτ)<7.2×10−6 at 95% confidence level. The combination with the previously published analyses sets the strongest constraints to date: B(Z→eτ)<5.0×10−6 and B(Z→μτ)<6.5×10−6 at 95% confidence level.

Preparation of MWCNT-Fe3O4 Nanocomposites from Iron Sand Using Sonochemical Route

The composites of multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) and magnetite (Fe3O4) nanoparticles from iron sand were successfully prepared via the sonochemical route. In this experiment, the MWCNT-Fe3O4 nanocomposites were prepared with different compositions of MWCNT (0.01%, 0.02%, and 0.04%) with the constant composition of Fe3O4 particles. The characterizations were performed by means of X-Ray Diffractometry (XRD), Fourier Transform Infra-Red (FTIR) Spectrometer and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) integrated with Energy Dispersive X-Ray (EDX). The XRD data analysis showed that the Fe3O4 crystallize in spinel structure in nanometric size. Furthermore, the crystallinity of the samples tended to reduce by increasing the MWCNT compositions. The SEM images showed that Fe3O4 tend to agglomerate in nanometric size. The FTIR spectra detected the functional groups of Fe-O bonding that showed the existence of Fe2+ and Fe3+. In the composites, the Fe3O4 nanoparticles were physically mixed with the MWCNTs constructing a unique structure. The as prepared MWCNT-Fe3O4 nanocomposites have the potential for bio-applications.

Moldable setting time evaluation between sodium alginate and bovine gelatine of glutinous rice mixture as dental putty materials

Putty elastomeric material is a viscous, moldable material that can be used as a dental impression to record and duplicate the tooth structure. Commercially available putty materials are hardly found in the Indonesian market. The aim of this work is to develop an alternative putty dental material from glutinous rice with two different gelling agents; sodium alginate and bovine gelatine. A commercially putty material was used as a control. The length of time required for the putty materials to set (setting time) was evaluated with compression set test. The result showed that sodium alginate and bovine gelatine gelling agents resulted in moldable putty materials that comparable to the commercial product. Glutinous rice mixed with sodium alginate gelling agent demonstrated longer setting time (more than 1 hours) compared to bovine gelatine (6 minutes). These may occur due to heat treatment applied to the bovine gelatine, while sodium alginate mixture has a chemical reaction since CaCl2 crosslink agent had been added to the mixture. Glutinous rice with bovine gelatine mixture is a promising candidate to be used as a dental putty material.

Preliminary result of 3-D attenuation tomography beneath Sunda Strait and western part of Java

Sunda strait lies in the transition zone of two different subduction system that is almost perpendicular to the subduction in southern Java and oblique subduction in western Sumatra. The series of major disasters such as earthquakes and volcanic eruptions is a manifestation of its tectonic setting complexity. We used selected waveform data from724 earthquakes that occurred around the Sunda strait and western part of Java from 2009 – 2015 recorded by 21 MCGA network stations to construct three dimensional image of seismic attenuation. Frequency independent attenuation operators (t*) was determined using spectral fitting method for P and S wave arrivals, respectively. The inversion was performed using simul2000 algorithm to image the lateral and vertical variations of Qp and Qs value in the Sunda Strait and western part of Java. Some interesting features such as subducting slab, mantle wedge, magma chamber under volcanos and fault zones can be imaged well.

A search is conducted for a new scalar boson S, with a mass distinct from that of the Higgs boson, decaying promptly into four leptons (ℓ=e, μ) via an intermediate state containing two on-shell, promptly decaying new spin-1 bosons Z_d: S→Z_dZ_d→4ℓ, where the Z_d boson has a mass between 15 and 300 GeV, and the S boson has a mass between either 30 and 115 GeV or 130 and 800 GeV. The search uses proton–proton collision data collected with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider with an integrated luminosity of 139 fb⁻¹ at a centre-of-mass energy of s=13 TeV. No significant excess above the Standard Model background expectation is observed. Upper limits at 95% confidence level are set on the production cross-section times branching ratio, σ(gg→S)×B(S→Z_dZ_d→4ℓ), as a function of the mass of both particles, m_S and m_Zd. © 2025 CERN for the benefit of the ATLAS Collaboration

BACKGROUND:Copy number variants (CNVs) increase risk for neurodevelopmental conditions. The neurobiological mechanisms linking these high-risk genetic variants to clinical phenotypes are largely unknown. An important question is whether brain abnormalities in individuals carrying CNVs are associated with their degree of penetrance. METHODS:We investigated if increased CNV-penetrance for schizophrenia and other developmental disorders was associated with variations in cortical and subcortical morphology. We pooled T1-weighted brain magnetic resonance imaging and genetic data from 22 cohorts from the ENIGMA-CNV consortium. In the main analyses, we included 9,268 individuals (aged 7 to 90 years, 54% females), from which we identified 398 carriers of 36 neurodevelopmental CNVs at 20 distinct loci. A secondary analysis was performed including additional neuroimaging data from the ENIGMA-22q consortium, including 274 carriers of the 22q11.2 deletion and 291 non-carriers. CNV-penetrance was estimated through penetrance scores that were previously generated from large cohorts of patients and controls. These scores represent the probability risk to develop either schizophrenia or other developmental disorders (including developmental delay, autism spectrum disorder and congenital malformations). RESULTS:For both schizophrenia and developmental disorders, increased penetrance scores were associated with lower surface area in the cerebral cortex and lower intracranial volume. For both conditions, associations between CNV-penetrance scores and cortical surface area were strongest in regions of the occipital lobes, specifically in the cuneus and lingual gyrus. CONCLUSIONS:Our findings link global and regional cortical morphometric features with CNV-penetrance, providing new insights into neurobiological mechanisms of genetic risk for schizophrenia and other developmental disorders.
