Tectonics earthquake distribution pattern analysis based focal mechanisms (Case study Sulawesi Island, 1993–2012)

Indonesia is the meeting zone between three world main plates: Eurasian Plate, Pacific Plate, and Indo – Australia Plate. Therefore, Indonesia has a high seismicity degree. Sulawesi is one of whose high seismicity level. The earthquake centre lies in fault zone so the earthquake data gives tectonic visualization in a certain place. This research purpose is to identify Sulawesi tectonic model by using earthquake data from 1993 to 2012. Data used in this research is the earthquake data which consist of: the origin time, the epicenter coordinate, the depth, the magnitude and the fault parameter (strike, dip and slip). The result of research shows that there are a lot of active structures as a reason of the earthquake in Sulawesi. The active structures are Walannae Fault, Lawanopo Fault, Matano Fault, Palu – Koro Fault, Batui Fault and Moluccas Sea Double Subduction. The focal mechanism also shows that Walannae Fault, Batui Fault and Moluccas Sea Double Subduction are kind of reverse fault. While Lawanopo Fault, Matano Fault and Palu – Koro Fault are kind of strike slip fault.

Preliminary result of P-wave speed tomography beneath North Sumatera region

The structure of P-wave speed beneath the North Sumatra region was determined using P-wave arrival times compiled by MCGA from time periods of January 2009 to December 2012 combining with PASSCAL data for February to May 1995. In total, there are 2,246 local earthquake events with 10,666 P-wave phases from 63 stations seismic around the study area. Ray tracing to estimate travel time from source to receiver in this study by applying pseudo-bending method while the damped LSQR method was used for the tomographic inversion. Based on assessment of ray coverage, earthquakes and stations distribution, horizontal grid nodes was set up of 30×30 km2 for inside the study area and 80×80 km2 for outside the study area. The tomographic inversion results show low Vp anomaly beneath Toba caldera complex region and around the Sumatra Fault Zones (SFZ). These features are consistent with previous study. The low Vp anomaly beneath Toba caldera complex are observed around Mt. Pusuk Bukit at depths of 5 km down to 100 km. The interpretation is these anomalies may be associated with ascending hot materials from subduction processes at depths of 80 km down to 100 km. The obtained Vp structure from local tomography will give valuable information to enhance understanding of tectonic and volcanic in this study area.

WiMAX IEEE 802.16e is one of promising advancing technologies in wireless broadband, and the development & deployment of this standard or system has been maintained and performed continually. During its development phase period, we proposed and developed a sole module for software-based uplink subframe mapping method, after a certain existing method called as multi-modules method had been designed and used for certain period of time. The proposed sole module implemented and verified together with other modules to FPGA-based development board to construct proper functionalities of a Subscriber Station used for Time Division Duplexing WiMAX IEEE 802.16e. It has been proven that the sole module works properly as the existing method does during the testing and verification. Indeed, the sole module reduces complexity for designing the software module of uplink burst mapping. One another significant advantage of the sole module is its capability to process burst data faster than the usage of multi-module technique. The sole module is considered a proper development for the software-based uplink burst mapping.

We have searched for proton decays into a charged antilepton (e+, μ+) plus a meson (η, ρ0, ω) and for neutron decays into a charged antilepton (e+, μ+) plus a meson (π−, ρ−) using Super-Kamiokande I-IV data, corresponding to 0.316 megaton·years of exposure. This measurement updates the previous published result by using 2.26 times more data and improved analysis methods. No significant evidence for nucleon decay is observed and lower limits on the partial lifetime of the nucleon are obtained. The limits range from 3×1031 to 1×1034 years at 90% confidence level, depending on the decay mode.

The real-time conditions may develop a need for data originating from the concrete reference system. Sometimes this can refer to the Gauss-Krüger coordinates and UTM projections with a specific datum. This paper analyses a connection between UTM projection with datum WGS-1984 and Gauss-Krüger coordinates for a wider area of the City of Rijeka, without precise need for making the reference to the specific reference coordinate system. Paper also includes the observations of mathematical frames which define Helmert transformations as tool that enables switching from one reference system to another. Additionally, it discusses the needs and possibilities of described tool within GIS and GPS navigation and possibilities of computer program which can modularly be implemented into the specialized programs for Geodesic purposes.

A new scheme for adaptive neural networks for nonlinear dynamic system identification is proposed in this paper. The network of structure multi-layer perceptron with external recurrence is trained offline at first to get the initial network parameters. The parameters of the network are classified into short-term memory part and long-term memory part. The short-term memory part includes the parameters which are linear to the network output. In the implementation, the network is validated in each sampling time using a set of new measurement data. Training procedure will be executed if the model error exceeds a specified value and the short-term memory part will be adjusted. The application in modelling of room thermal behaviour demonstrates the performance of the proposed scheme. © 2013 IEEE.

A stable light intensity level of a classroom can actually be obtained by integrating automatic lamp brightness controller with automatic blind system. A brightness controller of the lamp, especially incandescent type can be developed by adopting the principle of phase firing angle. It should be implemented in such a way so that the firing angle is set precisely to keep the classroom's light intensity stays in a steady level. Next, the opening and closing process of the blind can also be done using stepper motor which will be controlled automatically by a microcontroller through a hardware driver. This is intended to take the advantage of light contribution from the outside instead of directly switching on or brightening the lamp. © 2013 IEEE.

A search for boosted dark matter using 161.9 kiloton-years of Super-Kamiokande IV data is presented. We search for an excess of elastically scattered electrons above the atmospheric neutrino background, with a visible energy between 100 MeV and 1 TeV, pointing back to the Galactic Center or the Sun. No such excess is observed. Limits on boosted dark matter event rates in multiple angular cones around the Galactic Center and Sun are calculated. Limits are also calculated for a baseline model of boosted dark matter produced from cold dark matter annihilation or decay. This is the first experimental search for boosted dark matter from the Galactic Center or the Sun interacting in a terrestrial detector. Copyright © 2017, The Authors. All rights reserved.

We present the results of a search in the Super-Kamiokande (SK) detector for excesses of neutrinos with energies above a few GeV that are in the direction of the track events reported in IceCube. Data from all SK phases (SK-I through SK-IV) were used, spanning a period from April 1996 to April 2016 and corresponding to an exposure of 225 kilotonne-years. We considered the 14 IceCube track events from a data set with 1347 livetime days taken from 2010 to 2014. We use Poisson counting to determine if there is an excess of neutrinos detected in SK in a 10 degree search cone (5 degrees for the highest energy data set) around the reconstructed direction of the IceCube event. No significant excess was found in any of the search directions we examined. We also looked for coincidences with a recently reported IceCube multiplet event. No events were detected within a ± 500 s time window around the first detected event, and no significant excess was seen from that direction over the lifetime of SK. Copyright © 2017, The Authors.
