2023 International Symposium From the Universe Back to Earth: Developing Astronomy to Meet Today's Natural Challenges

A new VGOS (VLBI Global Observing System) radio telescope will be constructed at Bosscha Observatory Lembang, West Java, in cooperation between Shanghai Astronomical Observatory (SHAO) and Institut Teknologi Bandung. One of the preparation steps is to conduct RFI (Radio Frequency Interference) measurements to obtain the RFI environment from the vicinity of the observatory. In this work, we report preliminary measurements of the RFIs that were done for several days in August and September 2023. Instruments used includes: A-INFOTM LB-20180 horn antenna, Wright TechnologiesTM low noise amplifier, and AaroniaTM Spectran V5 80200 OEM spectrum analyzer. The frequency range of 2.0 - 18.0 GHz is targeted referring to VGOS frequencies. Measurements in one day are carried out for about 24 hours in eight cardinal directions and two polarizations. The results and analysis are presented in spectral power flux density plots. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Offsets Reconstruction Method for Clock Skew Measurement Over High-Jitter Communication

Measuring clock skew of devices over a network fully relies on the offsets, the differences between sending and receiving times. Offsets that shape a thick line are the most ideal one as their slope is directly the clock skew sought. When some outliers separate from the thick line due to higher delay jitter, current advanced approaches use the lower bound or the majority of offsets to derive accurate clock skew. However, outliers in offsets that shape parallel dotted lines, reduce the availability of offsets in the lower region, and scatter widely the offsets from their majority zone. These conditions drive the current skew estimation approaches to lose their accuracy. This paper then developed a new method, which reconstructs back the outliers into their origin positions, in order to provide ideal offsets for clock skew measurement. The experimental evaluations have demonstrated that the clock skew accuracy of dotted-lines offsets tampered by outliers was improved from 2.1 to 0.9 ppm by the proposed reconstruction method. For a broader purpose, the reconstruction method has been adjusted to be implemented also on non-dotted-lines offsets. The robustness of the proposed method for this case has also been exhibited by the very ideal reconstructed offsets that shape like a thick line. © The Author(s) 2025.

Depression is a mental health issue that impacts over 300 million individuals worldwide. Daily anxiety impacts the relationships of depressed individuals with their family and friends, affects their health, and, in the worst-case scenario, leads to suicide. Due to the an increase of social networks, a vast majority of people now express their thoughts, feelings, and emotions via social media. The researchers mainly focused on features and building predictions, making it difficult for them to detect depression via social media. Word embedding offers a potential solution for processing and transforming unstructured data into meaningful representations. Embedded words represent textual data as numeric numerals with equivalent meaning. Using the Bidirectional Long Short-Term Memory (Bi-LSTM) paradigm, this investigation attempts to experiment with various weighting dimensions using the Word2Vec and GloVe methods. The data used is Depression: Reddit Dataset labelled: depressed and non-depressed. The experimental results of word weight dimensions using Word2Vec with a dimension of 500 are better than Glove. The results of accuracy, precision, recall and f1-score for the Word2Vec method were 96.22%, 97.02%, 95.30% and 96.15%, while the Glove method was 95.91%, 96.40%, 95.30% and 95.85% with a dimension of 200. Overall, Word Embedding Dimensions influences the results of this study. Based on these findings, it is concluded that the proposed Word2Vec method is a significant approach. © 2023 The Authors. At present, ad hoc networks are getting a lot of attention, because they have many features that differ from the rest of the networks and because they are technically advanced. In routing protocols, the Vehicular Ad-hoc network (VANET) differ in performance because each protocol has different variables, such as variable density, speed, and traffic scenarios. In this work, we proposed topology-based routing namely Ad hoc On Demand Distance Vector (AODV) protocol. The AODV protocol has been simulated in case of the movement of vehicles at a fixed velocity at 60km/h, and in case of randomly changing the vehicle's locations in the network. There are three parameters used to investigate the performance of the proposed AODV protocol which are packet delivery ratio, and overheads. The Simulation results show a significant decrease from 0.55 to 0.82 in the packet delivery ratio. On the other hand, the performance of the AODV protocol demonstrates effective communication for the VANETs. © 2023 IEEE.

ChatGPT has generated significant interest and discussion within the academic community since its initial introduction. This study aims to investigate the students’ intentions to use ChatGPT for educational purposes in higher education. A proposed conceptual model based on the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology model-2 (UTAUT2) was employed in this current study. A total of 575 data obtained from a questionnaire survey of higher education students were analyzed using partial least square-structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM). The results of the hypothesis testing revealed that both cognitive attitude and emotional attitude have a significant influence on the intention to use ChatGPT. The cognitive attitude was influenced by performance expectancy and effort expectancy. Affective attitudes were shaped by factors such as novelty value, performance expectancy, hedonic motivation, and effort expectancy.

Polymer-based dampening layer application to improve the operating shock tolerance of hard disk drive

This paper discusses a passive vibration control method to improve the shock tolerance of hard disk drives (HDDs) in operating condition (op-shock tolerance). Past works in improving the HDDs’ op-shock tolerance includes (i) parking the head when shock is detected, (ii) installing a lift-off limiter, (iii) structural modification of the suspension, and (iv) installing an external vibration isolation. Methods (i) and (iv) have practical issues, method (ii) works only on single shock direction, and method (iii) requires major engineering design/manufacturing work. Compared to these works, this paper proposes a method which has no practical issues and without requiring major engineering design/manufacturing work. The proposed method is to apply a polymer-based dampening layer on the backside of the baseplate with the purpose of increasing the damping ratio of the 1st bending mode of the baseplate. The location of the dampening layer on the baseplate is first determined by modal analysis and then fine-tuned by non-op-shock tests. The op-shock tolerance improvement is confirmed by op-shock tests where 2.5″ HDD with the dampening layer on the baseplate can withstand a 300G 0.5-ms shock without failure while unmodified HDD can only withstand 250G 0.5-ms shock without failure. © 2022, The Author(s).

In an era where human-machine interaction is becoming increasingly important, the ability to understand emotions can enhance user experience across various applications, such as customer service and monitoring systems. This study aims to develop an emotion recognition system through voice using the Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) model and Mel-Frequency Cepstral Coefficients (MFCC) feature extraction. The dataset used in this research includes seven emotion classes: happy, sad, angry, surprised, neutral, fearful, and disgusted, with a total of 2.800 samples obtained from the open-source Kaggle platform. The LSTM model is implemented to capture temporal patterns in voice data, while MFCC features are employed to represent the characteristics of the voice. The evaluation results show a classification accuracy of 98.80%, with the LSTM model proving effective in addressing the challenges of time series data with long-term dependencies. This research not only contributes to the understanding of emotions through voice but also opens opportunities for further development of real-time emotion recognition systems. The implementation of this technology can enrich human-machine interaction, creating more responsive and emotionally aware systems, and contribute to innovations in artificial intelligence.

Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES) has a spirit to become a Conservation and International Reputation University is realized through strategic missions. One of the conservation-oriented implementation programs is H-BAT (Green, Clean and Healthy) program. In its implementation, there is a problem, namely the achievement of H-BAT program has not been maximized during the last 3 years in assessment. The objectives of this research are: (1) to identify of the potential and character of environmental support in the work units;(2) to determine the achievement of the indication of a green campus based on the assessment indicators on H-BAT program. This research was carried out in four stages: (1) Data collection;(2) Spatial data processing;(3) Non Spatial data processing;(4) Analysis (ecological, technical standards);The results achieved in June 2020 are as follows: FT got 87,50%, FE got 85,87%, FMIPA got 81,52%, BUHK got79,49%, FIP got 73,91%, LP3 got 69,23%, LP2M got 63,46%, FIS got 60,33%,PPS got 57,07%, FIK got 56,52%, FH got 52,72%, FBS got 49,46%, TIK got 40,38%, BPB got 34,62%, Library got 30,13%, Archive got 17,31%. From these results, it can be seen that there is a lack of maximum achievement due to, among others, the lack of guidance and technical assistance in the management of the unit. So it is necessary to complete governance guidelines and technical assistance that are more intensive in unit governance to achieve the goals of UNNES as a green campus. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Digital picture or image becomes more and more important in people's daily life, such as for administration, documentation, active communications, and learning processes. People also demand the exchange of information through digital applications and social media. Taking picture or photo of a document, book, certificate, or thing is usually done by the help of digital scanner, but not all these stuffs can be converted into digital with a scanner. In specific condition people need real image transfer and will take photo of the real view directly using their own digital camera or smartphone camera. From author experience and observations, when taking photos of a document or book or certificate or thing normally with plastic cover or glass surface or bouncing surface, we clearly got an annoying light came from the camera focus light or flash that usually creates noise and messy image. This research was conducted based on the idea to remove or avoid getting the unwanted or disturbing light while taking photos of glossy or bouncing surfaces. A procedure to get a clear and smooth image instead of noise and broken image was derived and implemented by author using light guiding and image warping. These two methods bring accurate images that are necessary for communication needs and facilitate better future works without compromising security policies and people's rights. As the research methodology, author performed literature study, observation, analysis, and implementation. The result of this research offers a good procedure and method that can help people getting clear photos or pictures of a glossy or bouncing surface, advance research to be implemented related to camera technology, and best comprehension to improve photography techniques for future developments. © 2022 ACM.
