Thanks to advancements in technology, the importance of computational methods used in tasks like storing and processing data is increasing as the data produced becomes more complex in both size and detail. Methods such as Tucker Decomposition, CANDECOMP/PARAFAC, Alternating Least Squares and their derivations, are widely used in the field to meet the requirements in numerous areas. These cases contain expressing high-dimensional data using lower-dimensional tensors, cleansing the data of errors that occur during data acquisition while also ensuring an efficient compression. This study proposes a new method that exploits the tensor structure of 3-dimensional data by calculating the lower-dimensional components via Enhanced Multivariance Products Representation and produces a superior approximation compared to well-known tensor decomposition methods. An iterative process is established to calculate the optimal support tensors and to determine the lower-dimensional components, which in further steps are employed to reconstruct the approximation.

Many Internet protocol (IP) lookup algorithms have been formulated to improve network performance. This study reviewed and experimentally evaluated technologies for trie-based methods that reduce memory access, memory consumption and IP lookup time. Experiments involving binary tries (for simplicity) were conducted on four real-world data sets, two of which were on IPv4 router tables (855,997 and 876,489 active prefixes) and two of which were on IPv6 router tables (155,310 and 157,579 active prefixes). Technologies designed to reduce time taken (at the expense of memory consumption) worked well for IPv4, and those designed to reduce memory consumption worked well for IPv6. Various combinations of these technologies were applied together in the experiments. © 2022 Elsevier Inc.

The escalating visibility of secure direct object reference (IDOR) vulnerabilities in API security, as indicated in the compilation of OWASP Top 10 API Security Risks, highlights a noteworthy peril to sensitive data. This study explores IDOR vulnerabilities found within Android APIs, intending to clarify their inception while evaluating their implications for application security. This study combined the qualitative and quantitative approaches. Insights were obtained from an actual penetration test on an Android app into the primary reasons for IDOR vulnerabilities, underscoring insufficient input validation and weak authorization methods. We stress the frequent occurrence of IDOR vulnerabilities in the OWASP Top 10 API vulnerability list, highlighting the necessity to prioritize them in security evaluations. There are mitigation recommendations available for developers, which recognize its limitations involving a possibly small and homogeneous selection of tested Android applications, the testing environment that could cause some inaccuracies, and the impact of time constraints. Additionally, the study noted insufficient threat modeling and root cause analysis, affecting its generalizability and real-world relevance. However, comprehending and controlling IDOR dangers can enhance Android API security, protect user data, and bolster application resilience. © 2023 IEEE.

Humanoid robot is able to mimic repetitive activities done by human. By having them, humans can focus on tasks that require extra focus, while leaving the simple one to be done by humanoid robot. To extend the functionality of the 3D-printed upper-body humanoid robot, a camera along with a machine learning algorithm is implemented. In this case, their responses can be categorized based on the gesture it sees. In this paper, the authors evaluate the performance of an upper-body humanoid robot that implements CVZone. The method of evaluation is conducted under three different distances, and each distance has three different brightness levels. It is found that the success rate is highest at the shortest distance which is 50 cm, and under medium-lighted environment. As the distance increases, the hand gesture gets harder to differentiate. At the same time, low or high brightness environment makes the image that contain hand gesture hard to interpret, thus lowering the success rate. Finally, hand gesture that involves third and little finger has the lowest success rate of 75%, while the movement that involves three fingers simultaneously has the second lowest success rate of 80.9%. Meanwhile, simple hand gesture such as clenched-fist or lifting a thumb has 100% success rate under all condition. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

As climate change alters the physical world we inhabit, opinions surrounding this hot-button issue continue to fluctuate. This is apparent on social media, particularly Twitter. In this paper, we explore concrete climate change data concerning the Air Quality Index (AQI), and its relationship to tweets. We incorporate commonsense connotations for appeal to the masses. Earlier work focuses primarily on accuracy and performance of sentiment analysis tools/models, much geared towards experts. We present commonsense interpretations of results, such that they are not impervious to the masses. Moreover, our study uses real data on multiple environmental quantities comprising AQI. We address human sentiments gathered from linked data on hashtagged tweets with geolocations. Tweets are analyzed using VADER, subtly entailing commonsense reasoning. Interestingly, correlations between climate change tweets and air quality data vary not only based upon the year, but also the specific environmental quantity. We anticipate that this study will shed light on possible areas to increase awareness of climate change, and methods to address it, by the scientists as well as the common public. Ensemble learning has gained attention due to its ability to improve predictive performance in classification and regression problems. However, there are several issues related to optimizing accuracy, diversity, and efficiency simultaneously in the ensemble learning process. Existing studies mostly focus on one or two of them, or focus on all three but only on the specific process of ensemble learning. Besides, the quantum approach has been expected to accelerate the optimization process while maintaining accuracy. The contribution of this study is to design a hybrid classical-quantum methodology for optimizing ensemble learning in a holistic way. This methodology combines classical (i.e. clustering, improved evaluation measures, and generalized weighted ensemble with internally tuned hyperparameters) and quantum (i.e. quantum annealing) approaches, and this methodology is analyzed to provide more optimal results. © 2022 IEEE.

In medical genetics, each genetic variant is evaluated as an independent entity regarding its clinical importance. However, in most complex diseases, variant combinations in specific gene networks, rather than the presence of a particular single variant, predominates. In the case of complex diseases, disease status can be evaluated by considering the success level of a team of specific variants. We propose a high dimensional modelling based method to analyse all the variants in a gene network together, which we name 'computational Gene Network Analysis' (CoGNA). To evaluate our method, we selected two gene networks, mTOR and TGF-ββ. For each pathway, we generated 400 control and 400 patient group samples. mTOR and TGF-ββ pathways contain 31 and 93 genes of varying sizes, respectively. We produced Chaos Game Representation images for each gene sequence to obtain 2-D binary patterns. These patterns were arranged in succession, and a 3-D tensor structure was achieved for each gene network. Features for each data sample were acquired by exploiting Enhanced Multivariance Products Representation to 3-D data. Features were split as training and testing vectors. Training vectors were employed to train a Support Vector Machines classification model. We achieved more than 96% and 99% classification accuracies for mTOR and TGF-ββ networks, respectively, using a limited amount of training samples. © 2004-2012 IEEE.

Sasirangan cloth is one of the traditional cloths owned by Indonesia and is a typical cloth originating from the province of South Kalimantan. This Sasirangan cloth has many motifs and is unique. Sasirangan cloth is also one of the potentials that can attract local and foreign tourists to visit South Kalimantan. However, in recent years, tourist visits to South Kalimantan have decreased due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Then it also has an impact on the delay in the implementation of the Banjarmasin Sasirangan Festival which is usually held annually. The next impact is a decrease in turnover and interest in shopping for Sasirangan cloth, so that employees who work for Sasirangan cloth craftsmen are dismissed and reduce people's income. So the purpose of this study is to report the results of the development of a Virtual Reality Game application called VR-SasiranganKu by integrating the interaction of Non-Player Character (NPC) behavior with the type of narrative in the simulation genre game. VR-SasiranganKu is recommended to introduce and at the same time promote Sasirangan cloth to users, then justify the reaction to knowledge and shopping experience, and evaluate user experience using the UX Honeycomb method. Respondents involved as many as 100 people who are local and national tourists. The results show that the interaction of NPC behavior can provide good direction to users regarding the introduction of Sasirangan cloth by presenting an appropriate interaction design based on the narrative and the theme of the NPC that has been adopted, the results of justification using VR-SasiranganKu can provide knowledge reaction and very good shopping experience, and based on user experience evaluation that VR-SasiranganKu has adopted a very good UX with an average score of 4.91. © 2022 IEEE.

Microsatellite instability (MSI) is a pivotal genetic marker influencing the efficacy of immunotherapy in colorectal cancer. Traditional MSI examination often requires additional genetic or immunohistochemical tests, whereas histology images, widely available in colorectal cancer diagnosis, offer a valuable alternative for MSI prediction. Although Transformer-based models have demonstrated promising outcomes in predicting MSI from histology images, they are hampered by traditional local attention mechanisms that struggle to capture long-range interdependencies and establish a comprehensive global receptive field. In this study, we introduce DiNAT-MSI, a novel framework for histology-based MSI prediction that incorporates the Dilated Neighborhood Attention Transformer (DiNAT). This model enhances global context recognition and substantially expands receptive fields, all without additional computational burden. Our results demonstrate that DiNAT-MSI achieves a superior patientwise AUROC compared to ResNet18 and Swin Transformer, along with commendable explainability. Our work not only illustrates a more accessible diagnostic tool for leveraging histological data but also underscores the potential of Transformerbased models with sophisticated attention designs in advancing precision medicine for colorectal cancer patients. © 2024 IEEE.

Eye-tracking studies focused on art galleries and museums within the realm of Instagram, especially in the Indonesian context, are notably scant. This investigation elucidates the user interaction and experience of the art gallery’s Instagram account, @galerinasional. Employing a quantitative approach, we implemented eye-tracking experiments using the well-known online eye-tracking software RealEye. The study participants were followers of the National Gallery of Indonesia’s (Galnas) Instagram profile, seven women and three men, in two age brackets: 18–24 years (n = 5) and 25–34 years (n = 5). The experimental protocol required participants to execute five tasks centered on locating exhibition details and artwork on the Galnas Instagram platform, with a duration of 100 s allocated to each task. The Participant Quality Grade (PQG), examination duration, optimal browser dimensionality, K-factor mean, gaze and fixation frequencies, and heat maps were determined for the participants. The key findings are as follows. (1) The participants’ PQG scores were predominantly between 4 and 6. (2) Investigative browsing typically exceeded the 100-s limit. (3) The consensus on the ideal browser dimensions hovered around 1,368.6 × 814.8 px. (4) The K-factor mean across participants tended toward K > 0. (5) The average gaze occurrence was 27 items per second for most participants. (6) A noticeable disparity in fixation counts was observed between the two age groups, with individuals aged 25–34 demonstrating prolonged engagement with Galnas’ content. (7) Heat maps accentuated a pronounced concentration on visual content, encompassing photographs, videos, and their associated captions. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.
