The escalating visibility of secure direct object reference (IDOR) vulnerabilities in API security, as indicated in the compilation of OWASP Top 10 API Security Risks, highlights a noteworthy peril to sensitive data. This study explores IDOR vulnerabilities found within Android APIs, intending to clarify their inception while evaluating their implications for application security. This study combined the qualitative and quantitative approaches. Insights were obtained from an actual penetration test on an Android app into the primary reasons for IDOR vulnerabilities, underscoring insufficient input validation and weak authorization methods. We stress the frequent occurrence of IDOR vulnerabilities in the OWASP Top 10 API vulnerability list, highlighting the necessity to prioritize them in security evaluations. There are mitigation recommendations available for developers, which recognize its limitations involving a possibly small and homogeneous selection of tested Android applications, the testing environment that could cause some inaccuracies, and the impact of time constraints. Additionally, the study noted insufficient threat modeling and root cause analysis, affecting its generalizability and real-world relevance. However, comprehending and controlling IDOR dangers can enhance Android API security, protect user data, and bolster application resilience.

Modeling of diffusion of adsorbates through porous materials with atomistic molecular dynamics (MD) can be a challenging task if the flexibility of the adsorbent needs to be included. This is because potentials need to be developed that accurately account for the motion of the adsorbent in response to the presence of adsorbate molecules. In this work, we show that it is possible to use accurate machine learning atomistic potentials for metal−organic frameworks in concert with classical potentials for adsorbates to accurately compute diffusivities though a hybrid potential approach. As a proof-of-concept, we have developed an accurate deep learning potential (DP) for UiO-66, a metal− organic framework, and used this DP to perform hybrid potential simulations, modeling diffusion of neon and xenon through the crystal. The adsorbate−adsorbate interactions were modeled with Lennard−Jones (LJ) potentials, the adsorbent−adsorbent interactions were described by the DP, and the adsorbent−adsorbate interactions used LJ cross-interactions. Thus, our hybrid potential allows for adsorbent−adsorbate interactions with classical potentials but models the response of the adsorbent to the presence of the adsorbate through near-DFT accuracy DPs. This hybrid approach does not require refitting the DP for new adsorbates. We calculated self-diffusion coefficients for Ne in UiO-66 from DFT-MD, our hybrid DP/LJ approach, and from two different classical potentials for UiO-66. Our DP/LJ results are in excellent agreement with DFT-MD. We modeled diffusion of Xe in UiO-66 with DP/LJ and a classical potential. Diffusion of Xe in UiO-66 is about a factor of 30 slower than that of Ne, so it is not computationally feasible to compute Xe diffusion with DFT-MD. Our hybrid DP−classical potential approach can be applied to other MOFs and other adsorbates, making it possible to use an accurate DP generated from DFT simulations of an empty adsorbent in concert with existing classical potentials for ads

Understanding historical wildfire variations and their environmental driving mechanisms is key to predicting and mitigating wildfires. However, current knowledge of climatic responses and regional contributions to the interannual variability (IAV) of global burned area remains limited. Using recent satellite-derived wildfire products and simulations from version v1.0 of the land component of the U.S. Department of Energy's Energy Exascale Earth System Model (E3SM land model [ELM] v1) driven by three different climate forcings, we investigated the burned area IAV and its climatic sensitivity globally and across nine biomes from 1997 to 2018. We found that 1) the ELM simulations generally agreed with the satellite observations in terms of the burned area IAV magnitudes, regional contributions, and covariations with climate factors, confirming the robustness of the ELM to the usage of different climate forcing sources;2) tropical savannas, tropical forests, and semi-arid grasslands near deserts were primary contributors to the global burned area IAV, collectively accounting for 71.7%–99.7% of the global wildfire IAV estimated by both the satellite observations and ELM simulations;3) precipitation was a major fire suppressing factor and dominated the global and regional burned area IAVs, and temperature and shortwave solar radiation were mostly positively related with burned area IAVs;and 4) noticeable local discrepancies between the ELM and remote-sensing results occurred in semi-arid grasslands, croplands, boreal forests, and wetlands, likely caused by uncertainties in the current ELM fire scheme and the imperfectly derived satellite observations. Our findings revealed the spatiotemporal diversity of wildfire variations, regional contributions and climatic responses, and provided new metrics for wildfire modeling, facilitating the wildfire prediction and management.

Computer vision has been used in many areas such as medical, transportation, military, geography, etc. The fast development of sensor devices inside camera and satellite provides not only red-greed-blue (RGB) images but also multispectral dataset with some channels including RGB, infrared, short-wave, and thermal wave. Most of the dataset is panchromatic (black and white) and RGB, for example Google Map and other satellite-based map applications. This study examines the effects of multispectral dataset for semantic segmentation of land cover. The comparison between RGB with band 2 to band 7 of Landsat 8 Satellite shows an improvement of accuracy from 90.283 to 94.473 for U-Net and from 91.76 to 95.183 for DeepLabV3+. In addition, this research also compares two well-known semantic segmentation methods, namely U-Net and DeepLabV3+, that shown that DeepLabV3+ outperformed U-Net regarding to speed and accuracy. Super-resolution algorithms aim to produce magnified high-resolution versions from low-resolution images. Some methods, however, are prone to generate blur during the process. Simple sharpening filters are adopted to alleviate this type of artifact. However, the actual effectiveness of this approach is not clear-cut in the literature. This work evaluates the effect of three simple sharpening filters on the quality of images obtained from super-resolution methods. Two metrics were considered in the evaluation: the Peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) metric, and the Learned Perceptual Image Patch Similarity (LPIPS). One of the filters could consistently improve the LPIPS metric of magnified images from diverse benchmark sets on top of seven super-resolution methods. The increments obtained for the perceptual metric seem to occur due to the sharpening effect. Improvements on PSNR values were not as consistent. © 2022 SPIE.

The rise of multimodal generative AI is transforming the intersection of technology and art, offering deeper insights into large-scale artwork. Although its creative capabilities have been widely explored, its potential to represent artwork in latent spaces remains underexamined. We use cutting-edge generative AI, specifically Stable Diffusion, to analyze 500 years of Western paintings by extracting two types of latent information with the model: formal aspects (e.g., colors) and contextual aspects (e.g., subject). Our findings reveal that contextual information differentiates between artistic periods, styles, and individual artists more successfully than formal elements. Additionally, using contextual keywords extracted from paintings, we show how artistic expression evolves alongside societal changes. Our generative experiment, infusing prospective contexts into historical artworks, successfully reproduces the evolutionary trajectory of artworks, highlighting the significance of mutual interaction between society and art. This study demonstrates how multimodal AI expands traditional formal analysis by integrating temporal, cultural, and historical contexts. Copyright © 2025, The Authors. All rights reserved.

In this paper we consider the filtering of a class of partially observed piecewise deterministic Markov processes (PDMPs). In particular, we assume that an ordinary differential equation (ODE) drives the deterministic element and can only be solved numerically via a time discretization. We develop, based upon the approach in [20], a new particle and multilevel particle filter (MLPF) in order to approximate the filter associated to the discretized ODE. We provide a bound on the mean square error associated to the MLPF which provides guidance on setting the simulation parameter of that algorithm and implies that significant computational gains can be obtained versus using a particle filter. Gene regulatory networks govern complex gene expression programs in various biological phenomena, including embryonic development, cell fate decisions and oncogenesis. Single-cell techniques are increasingly being used to study gene expression, providing higher resolution than traditional approaches. However, inferring a comprehensive gene regulatory network across different cell types remains a challenge. Here, we propose to construct context-dependent gene regulatory networks (CDGRNs) from single-cell RNA sequencing data utilizing both spliced and unspliced transcript expression levels. A gene regulatory network is decomposed into subnetworks corresponding to different transcriptomic contexts. Each subnetwork comprises the consensus active regulation pairs of transcription factors and their target genes shared by a group of cells, inferred by a Gaussian mixture model. We find that the union of gene regulation pairs in all contexts is sufficient to reconstruct differentiation trajectories. Functions specific to the cell cycle, cell differentiation or tissue-specific functions are enriched throughout the developmental process in each context. Surprisingly, we also observe that the network entropy of CDGRNs decreases along differentiation trajectories, indicating directionality in differentiation. Overall, CDGRN allows us to establish the connection between gene regulation at the molecular level and cell differentiation at the macroscopic level. © The Author(s) 2023.

This paper examines the reproducibility of massive information analytics under particular factors. The paper proposes the 'performing Scalable Inference' technique to cope with scalability troubles and to exploit current big statistics platforms for efficient computing and statistics garage of the statistics. In particular, the paper describes how to perform leak-free, parallelizable visible analytics over massive datasets using present extensive records analytics frameworks such as Apache Flink. This method presents an automated manner to execute analytics that preserves reproducibility and the ability to make adjustments without re-running the entire technique. The paper also demonstrates how these analytics may help several real-world use instances, explore affected person cohorts for studies, and develop stratified patient cohorts for hospital therapy. In the end, the paper observes how the proposed method may be exercised within the real world. Actively scalable inference for massive information analytics is pivotal in optimizing decision-making and allocation of assets. Typically, such inferences are made based on information accumulated from numerous sources, databases, unstructured data, and different digital sources. So one can ensure scalability, a complete cloud-primarily based platform has to be hired. This solution will permit the ***, deploying the essential records series and evaluation algorithms are prime here. It could permit the platform to recognize the styles inside the statistics and discover any ability correlations or traits. Additionally, predictive analytics and system mastering strategies may be incorporated to provide insights into the results of the information. In the long run, by leveraging those techniques, the platform can draw efficient inferences and appropriately compare situations in an agile and green way.. © 2023 IEEE.

We investigate the use of animal videos (observations) to improve Reinforcement Learning (RL) efficiency and performance in navigation tasks with sparse rewards. Motivated by theoretical considerations, we make use of weighted policy optimization for off-policy RL and describe the main challenges when learning from animal videos. We propose solutions and test our ideas on a 2D navigation task. We show how the use of animal videos improves performance over RL algorithms that do not leverage such observations.
