This review investigates the latest advancements in intelligent Network-on-Chip (NoC) architectures, focusing on innovations from 2022 to 2024. The integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) into NoC designs has driven significant improvements in performance, scalability, energy efficiency, and security. Key contributions include AI/ML-driven techniques to optimize routing, reduce latency, manage power consumption, and enhancing security against emerging threats. Despite these advancements, challenges such as computational overhead and integration complexities remain. This review consolidates these findings, addresses existing challenges, and proposes future research directions to further leverage AI and ML for developing robust and adaptable NoC architectures. © 2024 IEEE.

Seamless communication between authorities, people, and smart devices is crucial in today's globally interconnected world. Unprecedented demands on software design result from the advent of ubiquitous connectivity, which allows connections at any time and from any location. By structuring applications as separate services that can communicate both internally inside a platform and externally across platforms, microservices (MS) architecture satisfies these requirements. One of the most difficult parts, though, is still controlling communication between MS services, which calls for knowledge of the best design patterns. In order to solve this, we suggest a context-aware recommender system that is adapted to MS design patterns. This system not only makes recommendations for appropriate patterns, but it also gives statistical scores that show how relevant each solution is to the particular issue at hand. Other patterns with ratings indicating their possible feasibility are also displayed by our algorithm. On the other hand, sentence transformers handle intricate, human-like problem descriptions, while our method uses MS Domain Ontologies to distinguish pattern applications, constraints, and best practices. Our methodology provides a refined examination of solution suitability and recommendations through the use of weighing and correlation algorithms. Extensively tested with more than 237 developer-style scenarios, our framework offers qualitative and quantitative insights into its performance and efficacy, showing notable gains over current solutions in terms of offering pattern-specific, contextually accurate guidance for MS communication challenges. © 2024 IEEE.

The Vehicle Routing Problem with pickups, deliveries and spatiotemporal service constraints (VRPPDSTC) is a quite challenging algorithmic problem that can be dealt with in either an offline or an online fashion. In this work, we focus on a generalization, called VRPPDSTCtd, in which the travel-time metric is time-dependent: the traversal-time per road segment (represented as a directed arc) is determined by some function of the departure-time from its tail towards its head. Time-dependence makes things much more complicated, even for the simpler problem of computing earliest-arrival-time paths which is a crucial subroutine to be solved (numerous times) by VRPPDSTCtd schedulers. We propose two online schedulers of requests to workers, one which is a time-dependent variant of the classical Plain-Insertion heuristic, and an extension of it trying to digest some sort of forecasts for future demands for service. We enrich these two online schedulers with two additional heuristics, one targeting for distance-balanced assignments of work loads to the workers and another that makes local-search-improvements to the produced solutions. We conduct a careful experimental evaluation of the proposed algorithms on a real-world instance, with or without these heuristics, and compare their quality with human-curated assignments provided by professional experts (human operators at actual pickup-and-delivery control centers), and also with feasible solutions constructed from a relaxed MILP formulation of VRPPDSTCtd, which is also introduced in this paper. Our findings are quite encouraging, demonstrating that the proposed algorithms produce solutions which (i) are significant improvements over the human-curated assignments, and (ii) have overall quality pretty close to that of the (extremely time-consuming) solutions provided by an exact solver for the MILP formulation. © Spyros Kontogiannis, Andreas Paraskevopoulos, and Christos Zaroliagis.

YouTube is a popular online video-sharing and social media platform, hosting diverse content for all ages. The platform is gradually gaining ground against traditional media, with major turnover increasingly turning there due to videos and creators' influence, especially in younger audiences. Some of the videos may attain a large number of views often accompanied by many comments. Comments, often focus not only on the content of the video but also on several other aspects and topics. In this paper, we focus on the sentiment analysis of video comments, using a variety of methods we explore the correlation between user comments' sentiment polarity score and the popularity of the relevant video. Some adversities of machine learning or neural network model approach to the task include linguistic irregularities, typing errors, niche vocabulary, sarcastic and ambiguous content, or unrelated events influencing the commented themes. Unlike previous works [1], [2], our focus is centered on leveraging comment sentiment polarity for deriving predictions of the popularity and success of the respective videos. Our methods depend on lexicon-based sentiment analysis approaches like VADER and TextBlob but also on neural network architectures including BERT and RoBERTa. Our experimental analysis resulted in promising results, setting a baseline for this application theme. © 2023 IEEE.

System operators in low-inertia power systems often have to curtail renewable energy sources (RES) and employ strict under-frequency load shedding (UFLS) schemes to ensure frequency security after an event leading to loss of generation. This approach limits the maximum RES penetration in a system and results to the loss of load. To tackle these problems, fast frequency response (FFR) schemes can be used to limit the frequency Nadir after a disturbance and decrease the need for RES curtailments and UFLS. This article provides insights on the interaction between the Kinetic Energy (KE), Frequency Containment Reserves (FCR), and Nadir after a disturbance, which are the driving mechanisms leading to RES curtailment. Then, it analyses the impact of FFR on the Nadir and its ability to alleviate RES curtailment problems. The low-inertia, islanded, Cyprus dynamic model is used to quantify the results and showcase the impact on a real system. © The Institution of engineering & Technology 2024.

Adverse drug reactions (ADRs) remain a crucial challenge in healthcare systems, highly contributing to patient mortality. We present an innovative smart pharmacy system that utilizes advanced large language models (LLMs) to enhance drug safety and pharmacy operational efficiency. Our system integrates real-time data from patient's prescriptions, medication databases, and electronic health records (EHR) to automate the detection of potential drug interactions, optimizing clinical decision-making and reducing ADR-related risks. The system's architecture is designed to easily manage prescription processing for patients, inventory management and control, and Pharmacist consultations through an intelligent chatbot interface. Key features include real-time tracking of medication expiration and inventory levels, an interaction checker API for identifying and mitigating risky drug combinations, and an LLM-powered chatbot for accurate data analysis and visualization. By combining advanced computational techniques with AI-driven insights, our smart pharmacy system not only improves medication safety but also eases pharmacy operations. This transformative approach holds the potential to significantly reduce ADR-related hospital admissions and enhance overall healthcare delivery. Our research underscores the vital role of AI and LLMs in modern pharmacy practice, offering an inclusive solution that integrates easily into existing healthcare infrastructures. The proposed smart pharmacy system can be plugged into hospital EHR systems to automatically track patient medications. © 2025 IEEE.

Traffic congestion in freeways poses significant challenges, impacting travel times and environmental sustainability. This paper proposes a novel approach to enhance ramp metering control using predictive traffic insights derived from physics-informed LSTM (Long Short-Term Memory) models. By integrating predictive capabilities with established control strategies like ALINEA, the method dynamically adjusts on-ramp flow rates based on anticipated traffic conditions. Real-world traffic data are used to evaluate the effectiveness of the approach, demonstrating improved performance compared to the adoption of conventional controllers. © 2024 IEEE.

Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ) is undeniably a crucial factor that affects the occupants’ overall health and well-being. However, there is a significant lack of available actionable and measurable real-time metrics for the impact of IEQ on occupants, restricting potential control solutions and the validation of their effectiveness. Even more, occupant-centric and energy concerned automatic control solutions with direct aim to decrease or even prevent any negative effects of poor IEQ on occupants are required for creating sustainable built environments. In this work, we propose a novel framework for an occupant-centric proactive air-purification and ventilation control methodology (PPV). The method utilizes state-space models along with what-if scenarios to generate the potential solution space. A multi-objective optimization extracts the optimal solution in terms of air-purification and ventilation operation points, while minimizing various computed IEQ impact metrics in terms of the occupants’ health, comfort and virus transmissibility risk, and also considering the energy expenditure. © 2024 18th Conference of the International Society of Indoor Air Quality and Climate, INDOOR AIR 2024 - Conference Program and Proceedings. Nowadays, robotics implementation spans industries such as manufacturing, healthcare, and logistics, integrating AI-driven capabilities to enhance efficiency and collaboration in diverse operational environments. The ability to respond and interact while considering human presence is crucial for a mobile robot to operate effectively and be accepted in a human social environment. It is necessary to make a robot that can detect the presence of humans around it to make it capable of navigating while considering the social environment. Meanwhile, considering that the lidar sensor is almost always available in many robot navigation cases, it becomes an accessible tool for detecting the presence of humans in its surroundings. We brought the one-dimensional lidar data into two-dimensional image data, then involved some object selection based on weak characteristics, such as the acceptable range radius of the object and the acceptable distance between two legs. The result of the process is a group of human candidates. We use a deep learning model with a pretrained mobilenetv3 model as the feature extractor to ensure whether the candidates are humans and a fully connected layer of neural networks as the classifier. We defined several scenarios in an indoor environment to test the performance of the proposed algorithm. The experiment results show the system's performance with a precision score of 0.902, a recall score of 0.782, and an F1 score of 0.837. © 2023 IEEE.

High utility itemset mining (HUIM) is a well-known pattern mining technique. It considers the utility of the items that leads to finding high profit patterns which are more useful for real conditions. Handling large and complex dataset are the major challenges in HUIM. The main problem here is the exponential time complexity. Literature review shows multi-core approaches to solve this problem by parallelising the tasks, but it is limited to single machine resources and also needs a novel strategy. To address this problem, we proposed new strategies namely distributed computing (DC-PLB) and shared memory (SM-PLB)-based utility list buffer miner with parallel frameworks (PLB). It utilises cluster nodes to parallelise and distribute the tasks efficiently. Thorough experiments with results proved that the proposed frameworks achieved better runtime (448 s) in dense datasets compared to the existing PLB (2,237 s). It has effectively addressed the challenges of handing large and complex datasets. © 2023 Inderscience Enterprises Ltd.
