Due to the emergency of multi-view graph data, considerable attention is focused on the multi-view graph clustering. Although great efforts have been made in developing the multi-view graph clustering methods, most of them implicitly follow the homophily assumption, where the connected nodes with edges tend to be in the same category. As a matter of fact, such an ideal assumption is hard to be satisfied in the real-world graph data, and there are some heterogeneous edges connecting dissimilar nodes in graph. How to well consider the homophily and refine the noisy/heterogeneous edges in multi-view graph clustering still remains an under-explored challenge. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a Homophily-enhanced Adaptive Graph Refinement for Multi-view Graph Clustering (HomoMGC) method, where an adaptive graph refinement strategy is seamlessly designed. Specifically, a feature-oriented graph is constructed based on the shared feature, and an integrated graph is computed by averagely fusing all the input adjacent graphs. Then, the feature-oriented graph and integrated graph are stacked into a graph tensor with a low-rank tensor constraint, where a refined affinity probability matrix can be adaptively recovered from the integrated graph by considering multiple graph information as well as the semantics features. Extensive experiments on several benchmark datasets demonstrate the superiority of HomoMGC compared with the state-of-the-art graph clustering methods. Study on the identification and classification of fish is challenging and valuable because of its role in advancing the marine and agricultural fields. This research has benefits interms of monitoring fish populations and ecosystems in a particular area. Furthermore, this research helps monitor fish that are considered threatened or endangered so that it makes iteasier to map prohibited areas for fishing. This research aims to know performance of MobileNetV2 and VGG16 with parameter tuning process by identifying the value of batch size, epoch, learning rate, and optimizer for fish image dataset. The proposed research phase consists of five main stages, including experimental setup, dataset construction, dataset preprocessing, dataset training and modelling and evaluation. As the result, VGG16 obtained the highest accuracy value. For VGG16 without fine-tuning, the testing accuracy is 98.07%. For VGG16 with fine-tuning, the testing accuracy is 96.56%.

This manuscript is concerned with phase changes of signals transmitted through deforming optical fibres. As a first result, it establishes an exact relation between observable phase changes and the deformation tensor along the fibre. This relation is non-linear, and it includes effects related to both local changes in fibre length and deformation-induced changes of the local speed of light or refractive index. In seismic applications, where the norm of the earthquake-induced deformation tensor is orders of magnitude smaller than 1, a useful first-order relation can be derived. It simply connects phase changes to an integral over in-line strain along the fibre times the local refractive index. Under the assumption that spatial variations of the refractive index are fast compared to the seismic wavelength, this permits a direct synthesis of phase change measurements from distributed strain measurements, for instance, from Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS). A more detailed analysis of the first-order relation reveals that a perfectly straight fibre would produce zero phase change measurements, unless deformation was sufficiently widespread to affect the starting and end points of the fibre. If this condition is not met, non-zero measurements can only result from curvature of the fibre or from a heterogeneous distribution of the refractive index. Segments of the fibre that are strongly curved generally make larger contributions to the observed phase change. Second- or higher-order effects, not captured by the first-order relation, may be observable in specific scenarios, including deformation exactly perpendicular to the fibre orientation. They are associated with a frequency content that is higher than that of the underlying deformation field. Though higher-order effects may be realised in controlled laboratory settings, they are unlikely to occur in seismic experiments where fibre geometries are irregular and waves asymptotically propagate in all directions with all

The extensive amount of results obtained from any Web search operation and loads of related and/or irrelevant hits presented on the user’s screen are still poses challenges in the information retrieval field of study;especially if the user is an academic researcher and is looking for reliable and focused results. Therefore, improving the performance of Web search engines continues to be an active research topic. One of the biggest challenges to search engine optimization is when a user submits incomplete query statements or fragmented keywords. Using broken or fragmented keywords the semantic correlation will fail to result in inconsistent and outsized search results. This oversized (or overloaded) problem can be mitigated by utilizing the Exploratory Search technique with a faceted search refining mechanism. A combinatorial algorithm for computing the entire sequence of the maximum degree of minors of a generic partitioned polynomial matrix with 2 × 2 submatrices

In this paper, we consider the problem of computing the entire sequence of the maximum degree of minors of a block-structured symbolic matrix (a generic partitioned polynomial matrix) A = (Aαβxαβtdαβ), where Aαβ is a 2 × 2 matrix over a field F, xαβ is an indeterminate, and dαβ is an integer for α = 1, 2, . . ., µ and β = 1, 2, . . ., ν, and t is an additional indeterminate. This problem can be viewed as an algebraic generalization of the maximum weight bipartite matching problem. The main result of this paper is a combinatorial O(µν min{µ, ν}2)-time algorithm for computing the entire sequence of the maximum degree of minors of a (2 × 2)-type generic partitioned polynomial matrix of size 2µ × 2ν. We also present a minimax theorem, which can be used as a good characterization (NP ∩ co-NP characterization) for the computation of the maximum degree of minors of order k. Our results generalize the classical primal-dual algorithm (the Hungarian method) and minimax formula (Egerváry’s theorem) for the maximum weight bipartite matching problem. The research presents a comparative analysis of the selection of objects of interest in color medical cytology images. For these purposes, the individual edge detection operators studied are Canny, Roberts, and LoG. The comparison contrasts the standard method of assessing color photographs with a technique that incorporates supplementary information. Data from individual color channels, derived from the breakdown of a color image in RGB format, serve as supplementary information. The following individual cases for potential examination are emphasized: Image processing with a complete level of reuse of edge detection operators; with a partial level of reuse of edge detection operators. The results are displayed through an array of tables, graphs, and images. Metrics of visual perception of images are utilized for comparative analysis. Compared with traditional edge detection methods, the proposed approach yields better results, which can exceed the estimates of the classical approach by 20%.

This paper presents an adaptive online learning framework for systems with uncertain parameters to ensure safety-critical control in non-stationary environments. Our approach consists of two phases. The initial phase is centered on a novel sparse Gaussian process (GP) framework. We first integrate a forgetting factor to refine a variational sparse GP algorithm, thus enhancing its adaptability. Subsequently, the hyperparameters of the Gaussian model are trained with a specially compound kernel, and the Gaussian model’s online inferential capability and computational efficiency are strengthened by updating a solitary inducing point derived from newly samples, in conjunction with the learned hyperparameters. In the second phase, we propose a safety filter based on high order control barrier functions (HOCBFs), synergized with the previously trained learning model. By leveraging the compound kernel from the first phase, we effectively address the inherent limitations of GPs in handling high-dimensional problems for real-time applications. The derived controller ensures a rigorous lower bound on the probability of satisfying the safety specification. Finally, the efficacy of our proposed algorithm is demonstrated through real-time obstacle avoidance experiments executed using both simulation platform and a real-world 7-DOF robot. Rapid technological advances in the domain of Wireless Power Transfer (WPT) pave the way for novel methods for power management in systems of wireless devices and recent research works have already started considering algorithmic solutions for tackling emerging problems. However, many of those works are limited by the system modelling, and more specifically the one-dimensional abstraction suggested by Friis formula for the power received by one antenna under idealized conditions given another antenna some distance away. Different to those works, we use a model which arises naturally from fundamental properties of the superposition of energy fields. This model has been shown to be more realistic than other one-dimensional models that have been used in the past and can capture superadditive and cancellation effects. Under this model, we define two new interesting problems for configuring the wireless power transmitters so as to maximize the total power in the system and we prove that the first problem can be solved in polynomial time. We present a distributed solution that runs in pseudo-polynomial time and uses various knowledge levels and we provide theoretical performance guarantees. Finally, we design three heuristics for the second problem and evaluate them via simulations. © 2021, CC BY-NC-ND.

Wireless charging for weighted energy balance in populations of mobile peers

Wireless energy transfer is an emerging technology that is used in networks of battery-powered devices in order to deliver energy and keep the network functional. Existing state-of-the-art studies have mainly focused on applying this technology on networks of relatively strong computational and communicational capabilities (wireless sensor networks, ad-hoc networks);also they assume energy transfer from special chargers to regular network nodes. Different from these works, we study how to efficiently transfer energy wirelessly in populations of battery-limited devices, towards prolonging their lifetime. In contrast to the state-of-the-art, we assume a much weaker population of distributed devices which are exchanging energy in a "peer to peer" manner with each other, without any special charger nodes. We address a quite general case of diverse energy levels and priorities in the network and study the problem of how the system can efficiently reach a weighted energy balance state distributively, under both loss-less and lossy power transfer assumptions. Three protocols are designed, analyzed and evaluated, achieving different performance trade-offs between energy balance quality, convergence time and energy efficiency. © 2021, CC BY-NC-ND.

Trash to Treasure: Using text-to-image models to inform the design of physical artefacts

Text-to-image generative models have recently exploded in popularity and accessibility. Yet so far, use of these models in creative tasks that bridge the 2D digital world and the creation of physical artefacts has been understudied. We conduct a pilot study to investigate if and how text-to-image models can be used to assist in upstream tasks within the creative process, such as ideation and visualization, prior to a sculpture-making activity. Thirty participants selected sculpture-making materials and generated three images using the Stable Diffusion text-to-image generator, each with text prompts of their choice, with the aim of informing and then creating a physical sculpture. The majority of participants (23/30) reported that the generated images informed their sculptures, and 28/30 reported interest in using text-to-image models to help them in a creative task in the future. We identify several prompt engineering strategies and find that a participant's prompting strategy relates to their stage in the creative process. We discuss how our findings can inform support for users at different stages of the design process and for using text-to-image models for physical artefact design. © 2023, CC BY.
