Recently, person re-identification (person Re-ID) equipped with an attention mechanism has gradually emerged as one of the most active areas of study in the field of computer vision and neural processing. Despite the upsurge in related research, existing attention-based methods still face two major challenges when recognizing different persons with similar appearances in unpredictable realistic environments: (1) the adaptability of a single local salient feature to hostile scenes cannot be guaranteed, and (2) most existing methods originating from attention features usually find a simple linear transformation or implement variation strategies, which makes it difficult to discriminate different pedestrians with similar appearance attributes. To address these issues, this paper proposes a spatial attention cooperative-based graph convolutional model (SACGCM) to examine the relevance of local body regions for individuals. The proposed framework encompasses a multi-dimensional attention model (MAM) and spatial adaptive graph convolutional model (SAGCM). In particular, the MAM comprises a dual-attention (local and global) module and feature channel-attention stage, which are used to capture multiple key points for each person. Then, SAGCM is used to construct spatial nonlinear transformation relationships among the various body regions for each person using graph optimization. Extensive experiments were conducted using public person Re-ID datasets (Market-1501, DukeMTMC-reid, and CUHK-03). The results demonstrate that the performance of the proposed approach is superior to that of state-of-the-art methods by between 2 and 10\% at Rank-1 (mAP). © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Autonomous Vehicles (AVs) use natural images and videos as input to understand the real world by overlaying and inferring digital elements, facilitating proactive detection in an effort to assure safety. A crucial aspect of this process is real-time, accurate object recognition through automatic scene analysis. While traditional methods primarily concentrate on 2D object detection, exploring 3D object detection, which involves projecting 3D bounding boxes into the three-dimensional environment, holds significance and can be notably enhanced using the AR ecosystem. This study examines an AI model’s ability to deduce 3D bounding boxes in the context of real-time scene analysis while producing and evaluating the model’s performance and processing time, in the virtual domain, which is then applied to AVs. This work also employs a synthetic dataset that includes artificially generated images mimicking various environmental, lighting, and spatiotemporal states. This evaluation is oriented in handling images featuring objects in diverse weather conditions, captured with varying camera settings. These variations pose more challenging detection and recognition scenarios, which the outcomes of this work can help achieve competitive results under most of the tested conditions. © 2024, CC BY-NC-ND.

Deterministic distributed algorithms and lower bounds in the hybrid model

The HYBRID model was recently introduced by Augustine et al. [6] in order to characterize from an algorithmic standpoint the capabilities of networks which combine multiple communication modes. Concretely, it is assumed that the standard LOCAL model of distributed computing is enhanced with the feature of all-to-all communication, but with very limited bandwidth, captured by the node-capacitated clique (NCC). In this work we provide several new insights on the power of hybrid networks for fundamental problems in distributed algorithms. First, we present a deterministic algorithm which solves any problem on a sparse n-node graph in Õ (√n) rounds of HYBRID, where the notation Õ(·) suppresses polylogarithmic factors of n. We combine this primitive with several sparsification techniques to obtain efficient distributed algorithms for general graphs. Most notably, for the all-pairs shortest paths problem we give deterministic (1 + ϵ)- and log n/log log n-approximate algorithms for unweighted and weighted graphs respectively with round complexity Õ(√n) in HYBRID, closely matching the performance of the state of the art randomized algorithm of Kuhn and Schneider [41]. Moreover, we1 make a connection with the Ghaffari-Haeupler framework of low-congestion shortcuts [26], leading-among others-to a (1 + ϵ)-approximate algorithm for Min-Cut after O(polylog(n)) rounds, with high probability, even if we restrict local edges to transfer O(log n)-bits per round. Finally, we prove via a reduction from the set disjointness problem that Ω(e n1/3) rounds are required to determine the radius of an unweighted graph, as well as a (3/2 − ϵ)-approximation for weighted graphs. As a byproduct, we show an Ω(e n) round-complexity lower bound for computing a (4/3 − ϵ)-approximation of the radius in the broadcast variant of the congested clique, even for unweighted graphs. Work Engagement Recognition in Smart Office

The COVID-19 pandemic has forced a sudden change of traditional office works to smart working models, which however force many workers staying at home with a significant increase of sedentary lifestyle. Metabolic disorders, mental illnesses, and musculoskeletal injuries are also caused by the physical inactivity and chronic stress at work, threatening office workers' physical and physiological health. In the modern vision of smart workplaces, cyber-physical systems play a central role to augment objects, environments, and workers with integrated sensing, data processing, and communication capabilities. In this context, a work engagement system is proposed to monitor psycho-physical comfort and provide health suggestion to the office workers. Recognizing their activity, such as sitting postures and facial expressions, could help assessing the level of work engagement. In particular, head and body posture could reflects their state of engagement, boredom or neutral condition. In this paper we proposed a method to recognize such activities using an infrared sensor array by analyzing the sitting postures. The proposed approach can unobstructively sense their activities in a privacy-preserving way. To evaluate the performance of the system, a working scenario has been set up, and their activities were annotated by reviewing the video of the subjects. We carried out an experimental analysis and compared Decision Tree and k-NN classifiers, both of them showed high recognition rate for the eight postures. As to the work engagement assessment, we analyzed the sitting postures to give the users suggestions to take a break when the postures such as lean left/right with arm support, lean left/right without arm support happens very often.

Vortex flow characteristics in a reservoir and horizontal water intake have been predicted by using regression models in this numerical research. In this paper, three standalone machine learning models–Random Forest (RF), K-nearest neighbours (KNN), Gradient Boosting (GB)–and a proposed hybrid model based on Lévy Jaya Algorithm (LJA) and GB (LJA-GB) are employed to estimate the effect of trash racks on flow properties at power intakes. The experimental data which are prepared for the proposed study in this paper were obtained through a rectangular laboratory tank 8.3 m³ with various submergence depths and Froude numbers on nine trash racks with 63.7%–84.1% opening, made out of 2, 2.5, 4, and 6 mm thick copper wire. The outcomes revealed that the proposed LJA-GB model shows the best overall performance among the four models used for estimation. Thus, the LJA-GB model has the lowest mean absolute error (MAE) (0.3344), mean squared error (MSE) (0.1784), and root mean squared error (RMSE) (0.4223) values and highest R-squared ((Formula presented.)) (0.9899) and Willmott’s index (WI) values (0.9508) in the testing stage metrics for (Formula presented.) estimation and MAE (0.0061), MSE (0.0001), RMSE (0.0073), (Formula presented.) (0.9971), WI (0.9727) for (Formula presented.) estimation. Whereas the RF and KNN models exhibited poor performance in both stages of estimation. © 2024 The Author(s). In the era of global digitalization, digital innovation hubs have become essential, as they function as transforming forces. In this paper, we provide an analysis of the Montenegrin Academic Digital Innovation Hub by applying multi-criteria qualitative evaluation over several criteria: process flow of fully digitized operations of the Hub (with aspects of the innovation life-cycle, ethics, and security), resource management, strategic goals, and feasibility. The paper also proposes a model of comprehensive resource management via the perspective of smart specialization priorities of Montenegro. © 2023 IEEE.

This article addresses the problem of the non-circulation of information in each stage of architectural design. This paper explores the architectural design process based on the BIM platform and puts forward the structural design method based on the BIM platform. It carries out the seismic analysis of a high-rise building with a transfer floor structure and compares the analysis results with the structural analysis software commonly used by the current design institute. The results obtained for experimentation show that the period ratio, displacement ratio, and the first six modes calculated by the two methods in the modal analysis are consistent. The error between calculation results and PKPM calculation results is within a reasonable range. In the analysis of the mode decomposition response spectrum method, the seismic forces in X and Y directions, floor shear, overturning moment, floor average displacement, and displacement angle obtained by the two models are compared respectively. The analysis results of the two methods accord with the mechanical characteristics of the transfer floor structure, and the calculation error is within the allowable range. The structural design based on the BIM platform has the advantages of high visualization, parameter-driven component size, and high model accuracy, improving design drawing efficiency. © 2022 Slovene Society Informatika. Disentangling Prosody Representations with Unsupervised Speech Reconstruction

Human speech can be characterized by different components, including semantic content, speaker identity and prosodic information. Significant progress has been made in disentangling representations for semantic content and speaker identity in Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) and speaker verification tasks respectively. However, it is still an open challenging research question to extract prosodic information because of the intrinsic association of different attributes, such as timbre and rhythm, and because of the need for supervised training schemes to achieve robust large-scale and speaker-independent ASR. The aim of this paper is to address the disentanglement of emotional prosody from speech based on unsupervised reconstruction. Specifically, we identify, design, implement and integrate three crucial components in our proposed speech reconstruction model Prosody2Vec: (1) a unit encoder that transforms speech signals into discrete units for semantic content, (2) a pretrained speaker verification model to generate speaker identity embeddings, and (3) a trainable prosody encoder to learn prosody representations. We first pretrain the Prosody2Vec representations on unlabelled emotional speech corpora, then fine-tune the model on specific datasets to perform Speech Emotion Recognition (SER) and Emotional Voice Conversion (EVC) tasks. Both objective (weighted and unweighted accuracies) and subjective (mean opinion score) evaluations on the EVC task suggest that Prosody2Vec effectively captures general prosodic features that can be smoothly transferred to other emotional speech. In addition, our SER experiments on the IEMOCAP dataset reveal that the prosody features learned by Prosody2Vec are complementary and beneficial for the performance of widely used speech pretraining models and surpass the state-of-the-art methods when combining Prosody2Vec with HuBERT representations. In a wireless network, multiple channels can increase network capacity. However, it causes other problems, e.g., multi-channel hidden terminal problem and the issue about how to allocate channels to wireless nodes. Basically, a well-defined channel assignment can avoid radio interference and improve transmission performance. Therefore, in this study, we proposed a multiple channel assignment scheme, called concentric-hexagon-oriented multichannel assignment (CHOMA for short), in which all deployed eNBs are organized as concentric-hexagon (C-hexa for short). Available channels are grouped and then allocated to the C-hexas. We also arrange channels allocated to a C-hexa so as to reduce radio interference among its eNBs, consequentially improving the transmission capability and performance of a wireless network. Experimental results show that the CHOMA is really an interference-free scheme, no matter whether the target system is a network with SISO, SIMO, MISO or MIMO stations.
