This paper introduces the Biometrics Data Space framework, which is a secure ecosystem built on Data Spaces technology and it is designed to address the challenges of suspect identification during cross-border crime investigation. Apart from Data Spaces technology, the proposed framework innovates by leveraging also Privacy Enhancing Technologies (PETs) and blockchain to enable secure, trustworthy, and sovereign data exchange between Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs) across borders. Specifically, it utilizes advanced PETs, including Large-Scale Biometric Data Indexing based on deep hashing techniques and Homomorphic Encryption to allow for suspect identification without disclosing sensitive information of personal biometric data. Thus, it enables LEAs to securely compare and exchange encrypted sensitive biometric data, including facial images, fingerprints and voiceprints, while maintaining data privacy and data sovereignty. LEAs define the usage rules for the biometic data they own and these rules are enforced to and respected by the other LEAs participating in the Biometrics Data Space. The proposed architecture is designed to be scalable, allowing the incorporation of additional biometric modalitiies and the easy expansion and integration with new participant LEAs.

Integer factorization is a significant problem, with implications for the security of widely-used cryptographic schemes. No efficient classical algorithm for polynomial-time integer factorization has been found despite extensive research. Although Peter Shor’s breakthrough quantum algorithm offers a viable solution, current limitations of noisy intermediate-scale quantum (NISQ) computers hinder its practical implementation. To address this, researchers have explored alternative methods for factorization suitable for NISQ devices. One such method is the Quantum Approximate Optimization Algorithm, which treats factoring as an optimization problem defined over binary bits, resulting in various problematic aspects. In this paper, we explore the Func-QAOA approach for factorization, which premises overcoming some of the limitations of previous approaches and allows the incorporation of more advanced factorization techniques. After reviewing the most promising quantum implementations for integer arithmetics, we present a few illustrative examples to demonstrate the efficacy of the Func-QAOA approach and discuss methods to reduce the search space to speed up the optimization process. With the advancement of information technology in the recent decades, digital and online services have become essential components of everyday life in Europe. Montenegro is no different in this regard. However, as digital literacy in the country is still in a developing phase in comparison with most countries of the EU, a higher portion of its citizens may rely on assistive technical communication. In this paper, we provide a case study on the assistive technical communication of Montenegrin eServices. The work addresses the sectors of online banking, healthcare services, higher education, national administrative services, and utilities. Our findings highlight the diversity in terms of implemented assistive technical communication, and distinguish usage contexts on the level of adequacy. Yet as the functionalities of Montenegrin eServices are expected to gradually expand in the upcoming years, assistive technical communication must aim to handle the higher extents of service complexity. © 2023 IEEE.

An Event Correlation Filtering Framework for Fake News Detection

Nowadays, deep learning models have achieved great progress to tackle the problem of fake news detection. However, they usually restrict each news as a separated event and ignore the credibility correlation between events and news (CCEN). In this research, we creatively introduce the CCEN as an explainable promotion factor in fake news detection, and further design an event correlation filtering framework (ECFF). In our framework, a news characterizer is responsible for extracting the correlated events of news, which cooperates with a pseudo annotator to initialize the event credibility to assign pseudo labels for unlabeled news. In addition, a filtering updater is designed to reconstruct Kalman filter to resist the fluctuation in the news credibility. Further, an entropy selector automatically selects high-quality samples from pseudo labeled news by quantifying their news entropy to enlarge the training set. Finally, the integrated ECFF exploits the CCEN to improve the detection performance of fake news. Extensive experiments prove that the explainable introduction of the CCEN is beneficial and our proposed ECFF outperforms the state-of-the-art methods in fake news detection. © 2022, The Authors. This paper studies enhanced dense code multiple access (DCMA) system design for downlink transmission over the Nakagami-m fading channels. By studying the DCMA pairwise error probability (PEP) in a Nakagami-m channel, a novel design metric called minimum logarithmic sum distance (MLSD) is first derived. With respect to the proposed MLSD, we introduce a new family of power-imbalanced dense codebooks by deleting certain rows of a special non-unimodular circulant matrix. Simulation results demonstrate that our proposed dense codebooks lead to both larger minimum Euclidean distance and MLSD, thus yielding significant improvements of error performance over the existing sparse code multiple access and conventional unimodular DCMA schemes in Nakagami-m fading channels under different overloading factors. The Covid-19 pandemic has affected various aspects of life, one of which is education. In some certain areas, at this time the government has issued an interim policy that education provider institutions such as college, schools and its kind to conduct learning activities from home. The existence of this policy makes a change in learning patterns that are usually face-to-face to being forced to apply distance learning methods (online learnings). The limited internet quota, space and time during online learning, as well as different levels of understanding of each student make teaching methods with question and answer also hampered. The solution to that problem, we propose online learning media using Telegram Chatbot. The purpose of this research is to make the Telegram Chatbot as an online learning media with case studies of programming courses, so that be expected students can get learning with the way questions and answers about programming that can be accessed anytime and anywhere, without having to always tied to the educator. The Telegram Chatbot development method using the Prototype Method which is divided into three main stages, which are (1) system requirements analysis, (2) system design and development, and (3) evaluation. This paper considers intelligent reflecting surface (IRS)-aided simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT) in a multi-user multiple-input single-output (MISO) interference channel (IFC), where multiple transmitters (Txs) serve their corresponding receivers (Rxs) in a shared spectrum with the aid of IRSs. Our goal is to maximize the sum rate of the Rxs by jointly optimizing the transmit covariance matrices at the Txs, the phase shifts at the IRSs, and the resource allocation subject to the individual energy harvesting (EH) constraints at the Rxs. Towards this goal and based on the well-known power splitting (PS) and time switching (TS) receiver structures, we consider three practical transmission schemes, namely the IRS-aided hybrid TS-PS scheme, the IRS-aided time-division multiple access (TDMA) scheme, and the IRS-aided TDMA-D scheme. The latter two schemes differ in whether the Txs employ deterministic energy signals known to all the Rxs. Despite the non-convexity of the three optimization problems corresponding to the three transmission schemes, we develop computationally efficient algorithms to address them suboptimally, respectively, by capitalizing on the techniques of alternating optimization (AO) and successive convex approximation (SCA). Moreover, we conceive feasibility checking methods for these problems, based on which the initial points for the proposed algorithms are constructed. Simulation results demonstrate that our proposed IRS-aided schemes significantly outperform their counterparts without IRSs in terms of sum rate and maximum EH requirements that can be satisfied under various setups. In addition, the IRS-aided hybrid TS-PS scheme generally achieves the best sum rate performance among the three proposed IRS-aided schemes, and if not, increasing the number of IRS elements can always accomplish it. FOF-X: Towards Real-time Detailed Human Reconstruction from a Single Image

We introduce FOF-X for real-time reconstruction of detailed human geometry from a single image. Balancing real-time speed against high-quality results is a persistent challenge, mainly due to the high computational demands of existing 3D representations. To address this, we propose Fourier Occupancy Field (FOF), an efficient 3D representation by learning the Fourier series. The core of FOF is to factorize a 3D occupancy field into a 2D vector field, retaining topology and spatial relationships within the 3D domain while facilitating compatibility with 2D convolutional neural networks. Such a representation bridges the gap between 3D and 2D domains, enabling the integration of human parametric models as priors and enhancing the reconstruction robustness. Based on FOF, we design a new reconstruction framework, FOF-X, to avoid the performance degradation caused by texture and lighting. This enables our real-time reconstruction system to better handle the domain gap between training images and real images. Additionally, in FOF-X, we enhance the interconversion algorithms between FOF and mesh representations with a Laplacian constraint and an automaton-based discontinuity matcher, improving both quality and robustness. We validate the strengths of our approach on different datasets and real-captured data, where FOF-X achieves new state-of-the-art results. Wind turbine condition monitoring based on intra- and inter-farm federated learning

As wind energy adoption is growing, ensuring the efficient operation and maintenance of wind turbines becomes essential for maximizing energy production and minimizing costs and downtime. Many AI applications in wind energy, such as in condition monitoring and power forecasting, may benefit from using operational data not only from individual wind turbines but from multiple turbines and multiple wind farms. Collaborative distributed AI which preserves data privacy holds a strong potential for these applications. Federated learning has emerged as a privacy-preserving distributed machine learning approach in this context. We explore federated learning in wind turbine condition monitoring, specifically for fault detection using normal behaviour models. We investigate various federated learning strategies, including collaboration across different wind farms and turbine models, as well as collaboration restricted to the same wind farm and turbine model. Our case study results indicate that federated learning across multiple wind turbines consistently outperforms models trained on a single turbine, especially when training data is scarce. Moreover, the amount of historical data necessary to train an effective model can be significantly reduced by employing a collaborative federated learning strategy. Finally, our findings show that extending the collaboration to multiple wind farms may result in inferior performance compared to restricting learning within a farm, specifically when faced with statistical heterogeneity and imbalanced datasets. © 2024, CC BY-NC-ND.
