In previous years, 3G and 4G cellular homogeneous networks configured with macro Base Stations (BSs) relied only on the downlink signal, even though transmission power and interference levels differ significantly between uplink and downlink. In 5G Heterogeneous Networks (HetNet), a new generation which have multiple BSs of different types such as Femto BS and Macro BS, there is the possibility of choosing to receive the data from one BS and transmit them to a different BS, and therefore decoupling the uplink and downlink. Especially, the increasing demand for faster, more reliable, and efficient connectivity has made the optimization of User Equipment (UE) allocation in 5G networks a crucial task. To tackle the challenges posed by heterogeneous 5G networks, this study compares and evaluates the performance of Downlink/Uplink Decoupling (DUDe) and traditional Downlink/Uplink Coupled (DUCo) user allocation approaches. Simulation results show that DUDe UE allocation outperforms DUCo by providing improved network performance and more efficient utilization of network resources in diverse network conditions. These findings have important implications for the design and optimization of 5G networks and provide valuable insights for researchers and practitioners in the field. © 2023 IEEE.

Due to the push for more sustainable generation, small-scale distributed energy resources (DERs) penetration has increased significantly. Most countries have no remote monitoring and control requirements for DERs below a certain size. Therefore, they can be labeled as uncontrollable DERs (UDERs). In isolated systems, the UDERs hosting capacity is limited due to frequency stability concerns, as it is impossible to modify or curtail their generation in a centralized manner. In this paper, we propose the utilization of the active power over-frequency reduction curve for increasing the hosting capacity of UDERs in isolated power systems. Cyprus’s power system has been used to evaluate the proposed solution’s performance. The optimal settings of the curve have been identified, and it was found that UDERs hosting capacity can be increased significantly with the proposed methodology. © 2023 IEEE.

Recent interest in unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) has grown due to the wide range of possible civilian uses for these aircraft. However, present robot navigation technologies still need to be improved in various situations. Researchers are particularly interested in the 'Sense and Avoid' capacity as a critical issue. UAVs operating in civilian areas must have this functionality to do so safely. Numerous path planning and navigation algorithms have been developed for autonomous decision-making and control of UAVs. These path-planning algorithms are divided into either heuristic and non-heuristic or accurate methods. Both existing UAV route planning algorithms for the first and second techniques will be thoroughly compared in this work. Each algorithm is put through its paces in three diverse obstacle scenarios. Each method has been evaluated under various global and local obstacle information availability conditions while comparing the computational time and solution optimality. © 2023 SPIE.

The matching and linear matroid intersection problems are solvable in quasi-NC, meaning that there exist deterministic algorithms that run in polylogarithmic time and use quasi-polynomially many parallel processors. However, such a parallel algorithm is unknown for linear matroid matching, which generalizes both of these problems. In this work, we propose a quasi-NC algorithm for fractional linear matroid matching, which is a relaxation of linear matroid matching and commonly generalizes fractional matching and linear matroid intersection. Our algorithm builds upon the connection of fractional matroid matching to non-commutative Edmonds' problem recently revealed by Oki and Soma (2023). In the field of multilingual machine translation, many pretrained language models have achieved the inspiring results. However, the results based on pretrained models are not yet very satisfactory for low-resource languages. This paper investigates how to leverage code-switching data to fine-tune pretrained multilingual machine translation model, in order to boost the performance of few-shot low resource machine translation. By utilizing a multilingual mixed corpus, the code-switching method can enhance the cross-linguistic generalization ability of the model and improve its overall understanding of the language. In this paper, on the smaller size model of FLORES-101 benchmark, we use the code-switching data augmentation method to achieve the results of benchmark's larger model on six direction pairs of three languages, Chinese, English and Malay. This paper studied various corpus mixture mechanisms to construct the data in code-switching, and the experimental findings show that the results using the code-switching fine-tuning model improve the spBLEU score by an average of 2 to 3 points over the results without code-switching. © 2024 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).

The development of Mobile Applications in Indonesia is proliferating, especially in the development of Information Technology (IT) through social media and Instant Messaging (IM). The chatbot feature in some IMs is used daily to obtain information, one of which is LINE Messenger. Based on a survey conducted by authors to 221 respondents, the average number of respondents was 75.1% who were LINE users. In addition, the Covid-19 outbreak has hit the world. Covid-19 is a pandemic that is happening in many countries around the world. Therefore, many people are worried about the impact, and the authority must be ready to overcome the problem caused by this. Various research and collaborative efforts for Covid-19 wellness support by utilizing IT were conducted. This paper reports the use of LINE Chatbot as a platform to support the Covid-19 wellness program with the Sentence Similarity Measurement method. In addition to the chatbot, we created a website to make it easier for users to access the chatbot and obtain information generated from user queries. The accuracy rate of the SSM method for the Covid-19 chatbot is 85.71% in responding to user natural language questions. © 2022 IEEE.

Almost half of the vehicle accident fatalities occur at night. Driving at night is riskier. Even the most familiar roads can look distant in the dark. It becomes difficult to see other vehicles, pedestrians, and other objects. One of the problems is the lack of light, especially at road bends, because the vehicle headlights are always straight. The purpose of the research is to design the adaptive vehicle headlights direction that is always facing the road even if it is on the curving road. There are several processes to implement the system are detecting roads, processing detected road conditions and controlling the direction of the headlights. To detect the road using the camera sensor and image processing based the road lane and recognizing it using Hough Transform algorithm. the results of road detection are processed to drive the servo motor which adjust the direction of the lights. The implemented system works with the success rate 76.63% with accuracy error rate 1.28 degrees for the left bend and 80% with accuracy error rate 1.45 degrees to the right bend. © 2023 IEEE.

The development of technology in the field of internet of things (IoT) increase the development of android applications that are used to practically control IoT systems, especially in the field of monitoring. The current surveillance systems that using closed-circuit television (CCTV) are still very popular, but these systems require high costs for installation and their capabilities are not very flexible and scalable. Thus it is considered necessary to build stream and photo applications that low-cost, and more flexible. Therefore, in this study a simple remote application that utilizes video streams using Android with the help of websocket protocol on sending the command is developed. Testing is carried out to measure the performance of the developed system. The test is carried out in two stages, the first test was testing the function of the Android application and web server on raspberry pi with black box testing. The second test, performed a performance test on each feature by looking at the running time of each main software feature to see its real time capability. The low cost and flexibility of the surveillance system are achieved with the use of multi threading and with the usage of websocket making a flexibility at the level of low technical manipulation, although the stream and the device are still not responsive enough due to the encoding of the h264 data stream when it will be sent by the help of the VLC software. © 2022 IEEE.

A Comparative Study of Physics-Informed and Conventional Neural Networks for Predicting On-Screen Gaze Points from Eye-Tracking Data

Physics-Informed Neural Networks (PINNs) take advantage of physical constraints to improve the predictive performance of neural networks. They have demonstrated remarkable success in physics, chemistry, biology, and medicine, sparking interest in their potential applications in other fields, such as Human-computer Interaction (HCI). Despite their versatility, PINNs are underutilized in certain disciplines due to the challenge of defining Partial Differential Equations (PDEs) that adequately constrain specific problems. This study investigates the application of PINNs to predict fixations captured by an eye-tracking device, employing equations that model head and eye movements. The data for this study were collected during an experiment involving an adaptive user interface for pilots, encompassing a variety of fixation points and rapid glances. The results establish PINNs as a superior method, achieving a mean absolute error (MAE) of 0.61 for horizontal predictions (X) and 0.35 for vertical predictions (Y), significantly outperforming the conventional neural network (NN). Additionally, the PINN demonstrated stronger predictive accuracy for vertical gaze dynamics, as evidenced by an [[EQUATION]] of 0.91 compared to 0.85 for the NN. These findings underscore the robustness of the PINN approach in modeling gaze points with enhanced precision and reliability. While conventional neural networks perform adequately, the added benefit of physical constraints in PINNs encourages further exploration of their application in non-natural science domains. These promising results point toward the potential of PINNs in creating more adaptive and context-aware systems for various HCI applications. © 2025, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Even if an explosive number of proposals and prototype systems of blockchain based certificates and verification have been suggested and implemented since 2015, still in the public service areas paper certificates are prevalent. Because of advancement of color duplication and editing tools obtainable at almost no price in the internet, paper certificates are easily forged and modified. For the reason, the verification technology of the paper certificates needs need regressive research and can provide abundant research opportunities. In this research, various research suggestions and technical implementation are reviewed and a new system, called 'one-shot' verification is briefly described. The one-shot verification captures the image and QR code of the printed certificates with mobile devices before sending them to block-chained server. The block-chained server decides whether the printed certificates are tampered or not, with the OCR content by comparing hash value with hash value of the original content. The image OCR of the paper was trained with more than 1,700 images using YOLOv8. In the testing with preprocessing, the technology showed 96% accuracy. © 2024 IEEE.
