Deep neural network (DNN) models have shown promise in lung disease classification using spectrogram transformations of respiratory sounds. However, these models typically process entire images, which can be computationally expensive, and they require large datasets for effective training. With the largest available respiratory dataset, ICBHI, containing only 920 recordings, training a robust DNN becomes challenging. To address this issue, this paper introduces a simplified DNN framework that incorporates novel techniques such as patch splitting and transfer learning. Specifically, the proposed framework splits the spectrogram image into a sequence of fixed-size patches, effectively reducing computational demands. These patches are processed with the position embeddings by DNN encoders to capture acoustic characteristics, leveraging a pre-trained ImageNet model to make efficient use of the limited dataset. Evaluation experiments on the ICBHI dataset show that the proposed method improves the state-of-the-art 8-class classification accuracy by 1.91%. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.

The article discusses the challenges of using deep learning in healthcare due to the lack of extensive medical datasets and concerns about confidentiality and privacy. The article then focuses on the analysis of skin lesion images, which are complex and difficult to classify. The article presents a unique CNN model (skin-net) using a progressively private federated learning architecture to potentially address these issues. Recent advancements in medical image analysis using convolutional neural networks and federated learning techniques have shown promising results (96.19 accuracy, 96.37 sensitivity and 96.53 specificity) in accurately classifying skin diseases while maintaining data privacy. Using these methods offers a potentially effective way to examine human skin while improving the model's generalization performance through image augmentation. © 2023 IEEE.

The total labeling of a graph G = (V, E) is a bijection from the union of the vertex set and the edge set of G to the set {1, 2, . . . , |V(G)| + |E(G)|}. The edge-weight of an edge under a total labeling is the sum of the label of the edge and the labels of the end vertices of that edge. The vertexweight of a vertex under a total labeling is the sum of the label of the vertex and the labels of all the edges incident with that vertex. A total labeling is called edge-magic or vertex-magic when all the edge-weights or all the vertex-weights are the same, respectively. When all the edge-weights or all the vertex-weights are different then a total labeling is called edge-antimagic or vertex-antimagic total, respectively. In this paper we deal with the problem of finding a total labeling of some classes of graphs that is simultaneously vertex-magic and edge-antimagic or simultaneously vertex-antimagic and edge-magic, respectively. The integration of edge controllers into smart grid infrastructures facilitates advanced functionalities and high responsiveness, thereby bolstering the overall efficiency of the energy grid. The freshness of the sensing information received at the edge controller, captured by the Age of Information (AoI) metric, is vital to maintain system stability, where outdated information may lead to incorrect responses to grid conditions, potentially causing inefficiencies or system disruptions. However, the timeliness of the transmitted updates is mainly compromised by the delay and congestion within the routing links in the Neighborhood Area Network (NAN). In this work, we develop an intelligent routing strategy to improve the AoI of the Routing Protocol for Low-power and lossy networks (RPL), which is the common routing protocol for smart grids. Our proposed method is based on an AoI-aware parent selection mechanism, by which a node becomes attached to the parent with the highest probability of delivering a packet within a predefined AoI threshold. The prediction is made based on a supervised machine learning model, trained using the collection of heterogeneous routing metrics. The performance of the proposed method is evaluated via extensive discrete-event simulations and the results show its potency to improve the peak AoI and the AoI violation probability compared to the standard RPL. © 2024 IEEE.

The Greek School Network (GSN) provides support to students, teachers, and school units in secondary education across Greece. Handling numerous user queries manually can be challenging, necessitating the development of an automated system for accurate categorization of these queries. This paper presents a comparative study of various transformer-based models for multi-class text categorization of Greek language queries submitted to the GSN helpdesk. We introduce a new experimental balanced dataset and extract vector representations from eleven transformer-based models. These representations are evaluated using ten classic machine learning classifiers. Our findings highlight the superior performance of the Multilingual E5 Text Embeddings model, particularly when paired with the extreme gradient-boosting classifier. This combination demonstrates a clear advantage in accurately categorizing user queries, paving the way for more efficient automated helpdesk systems. © 2024 IEEE.

Recommendation systems are pivotal in industries like entertainment, where competitiveness is intense. This study enhances movie recommendations by utilizing rich datasets from IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes, incorporating movie ratings, user profiles, audience scores, and critics' reviews. These elements were subjected to sentiment analysis to refine the data quality. We explored three filtering techniques: content-based, which analyzes movie features;collaborative, which processes user behavior patterns;and hybrid, combining both to leverage their strengths. The effectiveness of these methods was assessed using Mean Average Precision at k (MAP-k) and Root Mean Square Error (RMSE), with our results showing notable improvements in recommendation accuracy. For instance, the hybrid method achieved a MAP ©k of 0.271 and an RMSE of 0.634, indicating enhanced precision and reliability of the recommendations. These findings suggest significant potential for improving user satisfaction and retention in digital platforms, demonstrating the benefit of integrating diverse data sources and analytical techniques in recommendation systems.

Plant-parasitic nematodes are major agricultural pathogens contributing to massive crop losses worldwide. It is crucial to identify plant-parasitic nematodes to decide the best pest control and management strategy. The current identification technique is based on visual observation from nematode microscopic images done by the nematologist. However, this method requires a long process and is prone to error. A deep learning-based method can be implemented to speed up the current identification process. This study explores the effect of combining several data augmentation techniques, namely brightness, contrast, blur, and noise, on the performance of the EfficientNetV2B0 and EfficientNetV2M models for identifying plant-parasitic nematodes. Moreover, this study also compared three optimizers while training the models to find the best optimizer for each model and data augmentation. The results show that the EfficientNetV2B0 model yielded the highest test accuracy of 96.91% when employing no augmentation and trained using SGD and RMSProp optimizer. Furthermore, the EfficientNetV2M model gave the highest test accuracy of 96.91% when the combination of brightness and contrast augmentations was applied and trained using the RMSProp optimizer. © 2023 IEEE.

One of the most notable advantages of utilizing social media is its ability to aid communication during natural disasters, specifically in regards to disseminating information. Social media users serve as community monitors by collecting public messages from a multitude of social media platforms. The implementation of artificial intelligence can facilitate the automatic recognition of messages concerning natural disasters. Deep learning-based artificial intelligence models for text classification, such as Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) and Long Short-Term Memory networks (LSTM), each possess their own unique strengths and weaknesses. Nevertheless, the utilization of word padding techniques presents a further challenge to accurately classify texts, as its implementation may negatively impact classification performance. In this study, feature extraction based on word embedding and word padding techniques were employed, utilizing a maximum number of words to be processed by a hybrid 2D CNN LSTM model. The results indicate the highest level of accuracy in cases of floods, with an 81.27% accuracy rate, forest fires with an 86.14% accuracy rate, and earthquakes with an 80.16% accuracy rate. This outcome represents a significant advancement over the accuracy attained by the classification model constructed with feature extraction based on word embedding and word padding based on mean and using solely 2D CNN. © 2023 ACM.

Tuna products are one of Indonesia's leading export commodity products. Accuracy in determining the quality grade of tuna is necessary to ensure food safety and product quality. Several cases of rejection of Indonesian fishery products by the United States and cases of food poisoning show a lack of food safety management in Indonesia. Determination of fish quality grade was done manually by identifying the eyes condition, gills, and meat color, taking a sample of tuna meat using a spike, which is the manual grading process causing human error. Previous studies had been carried out to identify the freshness and quality of fish using odor profiles, and color profiles from color sensors, measuring fish freshness and quality based on fish eye images. According to Robert DiGregorio, five parameters determine the grade quality of tuna, namely freshness, fish size and shape, meat color, texture, and fat content. Fish grades are grouped into grade 1, grade 2+, grade 2, and grade 3. This study aims to determine the grade quality of tuna meat based on color space through image preprocessing, dataset training, and classification. Image preprocessing consists of image cropping, converting images from RGB to HSV, and feature extraction using a wavelet. The training phase uses the k-NN algorithm using k=4 based on the number of classes. The result shows the correlation coefficient between grades of feature extraction using wavelet Symlet better than Haar. Classification of 65 images test dataset using Symlet wavelet and k-NN has a better accuracy of 81.8% compared to the Haar wavelet k-NN with an accuracy of 80.3%. © 2023 IEEE.

The Network Data Analytics Function (NWDAF) within the 5G core is not an inherent feature of open-source 5G cores, making its implementation necessary based on provider demands. However, for those seeking to integrate NWDAF into the core but lacking expertise in core architecture or application programming interface (API) integration, this task can be daunting, potentially resulting in the abandonment of data analytics implementation efforts. While the current version of NWDAF specifies certain use cases, it does not provide alternatives for developing new analytics scenarios. To fill this gap, this paper proposes a framework for 5G network data analytics designed to facilitate algorithmic modifications and the addition of new analytical contexts. The framework was developed considering the 3GPP technical specifications related to data analytics. Its evaluation was performed through a use case focused on cybersecurity anomaly detection applied to a 5G network core. The results demonstrated that the framework simplifies installation, increases flexibility for new algorithms, and integrates seamlessly into the 5G network core, effectively addressing previously identified shortcomings. © 2024 IEEE.
