Today, management and orchestration are considered prime components of the new network management layer. Multi-domain orchestration has helped in simplifying infrastructural operations and enables better scaling and faster deployment of network services. However, resource provisioning considering network optimization and fulfillment of multi-constraint quality of service (QoS) is still a major concern. In this article, an architecture comprising multi-domain edge orchestration (MDEO) entrusted by blockchain designed to solve the problem of multi-constraint QoS is proposed. A dynamic end-to-end (E2E) network slicing algorithm is devised to execute at the MDEO to enable multi-tenant on-demand network infrastructure provisioning isolation and security. The algorithm first calculates an optimum network slice topology and then instantiates the involved virtual network functions. Based on multi-constraint QoS, it fulfills the E2E slice request. Blockchain is deployed to ensure trustworthiness between different telecom operators, introduce transparency and to automate the fulfillment of service-level agreements through smart contracts. In addition, an experimental simulation of the system is performed and the burst and response times of the proposed framework are analyzed using different distributions. The data in both cases demonstrates a lognormal distributed behavior. © 2018 IEEE.

Using Natural Language Processing to Predict Costume Core Vocabulary of Historical Artifacts

Historic dress artifacts are a valuable source for human studies. In particular, they can provide important insights into the social aspects of their corresponding era. These insights are commonly drawn from garment pictures as well as the accompanying descriptions and are usually stored in a standardized and controlled vocabulary that accurately describes garments and costume items, called the Costume Core Vocabulary. Building an accurate Costume Core from garment descriptions can be challenging because the historic garment items are often donated, and the accompanying descriptions can be based on untrained individuals and use a language common to the period of the items. In this paper, we present an approach to use Natural Language Processing (NLP) to map the free-form text descriptions of the historic items to that of the controlled vocabulary provided by the Costume Core. Despite the limited dataset, we were able to train an NLP model based on the Universal Sentence Encoder to perform this mapping with more than 90% test accuracy for a subset of the Costume Core vocabulary. We describe our methodology, design choices, and development of our approach, and show the feasibility of predicting the Costume Core for unseen descriptions. With more garment descriptions still being curated to be used for training, we expect to have higher accuracy for better generalizability. Copyright © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.

In this paper, we introduce a novel approach for autonomous driving trajectory generation by harnessing the complementary strengths of diffusion probabilistic models (a.k.a., diffusion models) and transformers. Our proposed framework, termed the "World-centric Diffusion Transformer"(WcDT), optimizes the entire trajectory generation process, from feature extraction to model inference. To enhance the scene diversity and stochasticity, the historical trajectory data is first preprocessed into "Agent Move Statement" and encoded into latent space using Denoising Diffusion Probabilistic Models (DDPM) enhanced with Diffusion with Transformer (DiT) blocks. Then, the latent features, historical trajectories, HD map features, and historical traffic signal information are fused with various transformer-based encoders that is used to enhance the interaction of agents with other elements in the traffic scene. The encoded traffic scenes are then decoded by a trajectory decoder to generate multimodal future trajectories. Comprehensive experimental results show that the proposed approach exhibits superior performance in generating both realistic and diverse trajectories, showing its potential for integration into automatic driving simulation systems. Simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) is critical to the implementation of autonomous driving. Most LiDAR-inertial SLAM algorithms assume a static environment, leading to unreliable localization in dynamic environments. Moreover, the accurate tracking of moving objects is of great significance for the control and planning of autonomous vehicles. This study proposes LIMOT, a tightly-coupled multi-object tracking and LiDAR-inertial odometry system that is capable of accurately estimating the poses of both ego-vehicle and objects. We propose a trajectory-based dynamic feature filtering method, which filters out features belonging to moving objects by leveraging tracking results before scan-matching. Factor graph-based optimization is then conducted to optimize the bias of the IMU and the poses of both the ego-vehicle and surrounding objects in a sliding window. Experiments conducted on the KITTI tracking dataset and self-collected dataset show that our method achieves better pose and tracking accuracy than our previous work DL-SLOT and other baseline methods. Visual Place Recognition (VPR) aims to retrieve frames from a geotagged database that are located at the same place as the query frame. To improve the robustness of VPR in perceptually aliasing scenarios, sequence-based VPR methods are proposed. These methods are either based on matching between frame sequences or extracting sequence descriptors for direct retrieval. However, the former is usually based on the assumption of constant velocity, which is difficult to hold in practice, and is computationally expensive and subject to sequence length. Although the latter overcomes these problems, existing sequence descriptors are constructed by aggregating features of multiple frames only, without interaction on temporal information, and thus cannot obtain descriptors with spatio-temporal discrimination. In this paper, we propose a sequence descriptor that effectively incorporates spatio-temporal information. Specifically, spatial attention within the same frame is utilized to learn spatial feature patterns, while attention in corresponding local regions of different frames is utilized to learn the persistence or change of features over time. We use a sliding window to control the temporal range of attention and use relative positional encoding to construct sequential relationships between different features. This allows our descriptors to capture the intrinsic dynamics in a sequence of frames. Comprehensive experiments on challenging benchmark datasets show that the proposed approach outperforms recent state-of-the-art methods. LOG-LIO: A LiDAR-Inertial Odometry with Efficient Local Geometric Information Estimation

Local geometric information, i.e., normal and distribution of points, is crucial for LiDAR-based simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) because it provides constraints for data association, which further determines the direction of optimization and ultimately affects the accuracy of localization. However, estimating normal and distribution of points are time-consuming tasks even with the assistance of kdtree or volumetric maps. To achieve fast normal estimation, we look into the structure of LiDAR scan and propose a ring-based fast approximate least squares (Ring FALS) method. With the Ring structural information, estimating the normal requires only the range information of the points when a new scan arrives. To efficiently estimate the distribution of points, we extend the ikd-tree to manage the map in voxels and update the distribution of points in each voxel incrementally while maintaining its consistency with the normal estimation. We further fix the distribution after its convergence to balance the time consumption and the correctness of representation. Based on the extracted and maintained local geometric information, we devise a robust and accurate hierarchical data association scheme where point-to-surfel association is prioritized over point-to-plane. Extensive experiments on diverse public datasets demonstrate the advantages of our system compared to other state-of-the-art methods. Deductive verification of hybrid systems (HSs) increasingly attracts more attention in recent years because of its power and scalability, where a powerful specification logic for HSs is the cornerstone. Often, HSs are naturally modelled by concurrent processes that communicate with each other. However, existing specification logics cannot easily handle such models. In this paper, we present a specification logic and proof system for Hybrid Communicating Sequential Processes (HCSP), that extends CSP with ordinary differential equations (ODE) and interrupts to model interactions between continuous and discrete evolution. Because it includes a rich set of algebraic operators, complicated hybrid systems can be easily modelled in an algebra-like compositional way in HCSP. Our logic can be seen as a generalization and simplification of existing hybrid Hoare logics (HHL) based on duration calculus (DC), as well as a conservative extension of existing Hoare logics for concurrent programs. Its assertion logic is the first-order theory of differential equations (FOD), together with assertions about traces recording communications, readiness, and continuous *** prove continuous relative completeness of the logic w.r.t. FOD, as well as discrete relative completeness in the sense that continuous behaviour can be arbitrarily approximated by discretization. Finally, we implement the above logic in Isabelle/HOL, and apply it to verify two case studies to illustrate the power and scalability of our logic. Copyright © 2023, The Authors. Vital sign (breathing and heartbeat) monitoring is essential for patient care and sleep disease prevention. Most current solutions are based on wearable sensors or cameras;however, the former could affect sleep quality, while the latter often present privacy concerns. To address these shortcomings, we propose Wital, a contactless vital sign monitoring system based on low-cost and widespread commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) Wi-Fi devices. There are two challenges that need to be overcome. First, the torso deformations caused by breathing/heartbeats are weak. How can such deformations be effectively captured? Second, movements such as turning over affect the accuracy of vital sign monitoring. How can such detrimental effects be avoided? For the former, we propose a non-line-of-sight (NLOS) sensing model for modeling the relationship between the energy ratio of line-of-sight (LOS) to NLOS signals and the vital sign monitoring capability using Ricean K theory and use this model to guide the system construction to better capture the deformations caused by breathing/heartbeats. For the latter, we propose a motion segmentation method based on motion regularity detection that accurately distinguishes respiration from other motions, and we remove periods that include movements such as turning over to eliminate detrimental effects. We have implemented and validated Wital on low-cost COTS devices. The experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of Wital in monitoring vital signs. © 2021, CC BY.

Breast cancer stands as the most frequently diagnosed life-threatening cancer among women worldwide. Understanding patients' drug experiences is essential to improving treatment strategies and outcomes. In this research, we conduct knowledge discovery on breast cancer drugs using patients' reviews. A new machine learning approach is developed by employing clustering, text mining and regression techniques. We first use Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) technique to discover the main aspects of patients' experiences from the patients' reviews on breast cancer drugs. We also use Expectation-Maximization (EM) algorithm to segment the data based on patients' overall satisfaction. We then use the Forward Entry Regression technique to find the relationship between aspects of patients' experiences and drug's effectiveness in each segment. The textual reviews analysis on breast cancer drugs found 8 main side effects: Musculoskeletal Effects, Menopausal Effects, Dermatological Effects, Metabolic Effects, Gastrointestinal Effects, Neurological and Cognitive Effects, Respiratory Effects and Cardiovascular. The results are provided and discussed. The findings of this study are expected to offer valuable insights and practical guidance for prospective patients, aiding them in making informed decisions regarding breast cancer drug consumption. © 2024 The Authors
