Diabetes mellitus is a chronic condition characterized by insufficient insulin production and the inability to effectively utilize the insulin hormone, leading to elevated blood glucose levels. As diabetes is incurable and persists throughout a patient's lifetime, effective management requires early identification of risk factors to ensure continuous and feasible treatment. This study proposes a unique decision support system based on the Mamdani Fuzzy Inference System (MFIS) to predict diabetes risk. This study utilizes a publicly available diabetes dataset containing 442 data that includes nine key health metrics such as BMI, blood glucose, cholesterol levels, and blood pressure to predict the risk of diabetes. The dataset aims to support early diagnosis and better diabetes management by providing insights into individual risk factors. This resource contributes to the development of more accurate decision-support systems in healthcare. We identify key variables and establish a membership function to assess individual risk. The Fuzzy Inference System (FIS) is well-suited for handling complex and uncertain conditions, making it an effective tool for this application. The advantages of the MFIS include its ability to incorporate expert knowledge through linguistic variables and fuzzy rules. This system demonstrates the practical benefits of MFIS in developing intelligent decision-making tools, particularly in the domain of diabetes risk prediction.

Heat stroke is a serious medical condition that requires immediate treatment and is exacerbated by intense heat and climate change. This paper introduces a Clinical Decision Support System (CDSS) for heat stroke risk assessment based on Fuzzy Association Rule Mining. The system evaluates key attributes extracted from the Stanford Bioengineering Senior Capstone Project dataset, including daily water intake, cardiovascular history, heat index, environmental and rectal temperatures, blood pressure, pulse rate, humidity, age, and sex. These attributes help identify detailed patterns associated with heat stroke risk. Using fuzzy logic, the CDSS addresses the inherent vagueness of medical information through a set of "if- then" rules designed for healthcare practitioners. The system is tested with historical data, demonstrating its effectiveness in recognizing critical parameters to provide personalized, timely attention to potential heat stroke cases. It aims to reduce heat- related illnesses and fatalities by enabling rapid data-driven decision-making in healthcare. Despite certain limitations, this study highlights the necessity of intelligent systems for proactive health management.

Artificial intelligence in the form of machine learning algorithms is driving the latest industrial revolution, leading to disruptive changes in the ways we communicate, interact, design, collect information, and express ourselves. While these changes offer new possibilities for our societies, they may also introduce biases that can lead to unfair decisions. This issue is particularly critical in the context of medical diagnosis, as bias can jeopardize patient treatment and health. To mitigate these biases, it is essential to such biases and involve all relevant stakeholders in the design of fair machine learning algorithms. In this context, the MACAIF project aims to develop user-centred interfaces that allow stakeholders, including doctors, to challenge the fairness of machine learning algorithms based on demographics, such as gender or race. Our project proposes a methodology to engage with stakeholders and incorporate their concerns during the design of a dashboard based on MLighter - an adversarial tool which is applied to identify fairness-related issues in machine learning models. © 2023 Owner/Author.

This research introduces a novel Probabilistic Graph Modeling-based Safety Classifier Algorithm designed for the purpose of classifying road safety in smart transportation systems. Leveraging a combination of numerical integration methods and Gaussian kernel density estimation models, the proposed algorithm offers an effective approach to assess and categorizing the safety levels of roads. The integration of these techniques enables a comprehensive analysis, allowing for a more nuanced understanding of the complex interactions within transportation networks. A decision tree is an easy-to-understand tool that has been widely used for classification tasks. On the one hand, due to privacy concerns, there has been an urgent need to create privacy-preserving classifiers that conceal the user's input from the classifier. On the other hand, with the rise of cloud computing, data owners are keen to reduce risk by outsourcing their model, but want security guarantees that third parties cannot steal their decision tree model. To address these issues, Joye and Salehi introduced a theoretical protocol that efficiently evaluates decision trees while maintaining privacy by leveraging their comparison protocol that is resistant to timing attacks. However, their approach was not only inefficient but also prone to side-channel attacks. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a new decision tree inference protocol in which the model is shared and evaluated among multiple entities. We partition our decision tree model by each level to be stored in a new entity we refer to as a "level-site."Utilizing this approach, we were able to gain improved average run time for classifier evaluation for a non-complete tree, while also having strong mitigations against side-channel attacks. © 2024 IEEE.

Social networks have been playing an important role in the life of human beings for the last years, they have become a way to express and share information widely. In them, many people create harmful and offensive content towards others, such as irony, sarcasm and the use of stereotypes to refer to certain groups in society. Because the information shared on the internet grows very fast, it is necessary to have systems that can automatically detect this unwanted behavior on networks. In this paper, we describe our approach to the Profiling Irony and Stereotype Spreaders on Twitter (IROSTEREO) task promoted by PAN CLEF 2022, where we want to identify profiles of users who post ironic content on Twitter. Our proposal is to builds models based on n-grams of characters and words, as well as non-English words in combination with SVM and RF as classification algorithms, and obtains a majority vote of those with the best results for each representation. Our solution reached an accuracy of 91.67%. © 2022 Copyright for this paper by its authors.

Variations in indicators which may affect COVID-19 outcomes exist among regions in the Philippines. These variations suggest that the impacts of the pandemic differ not only between countries but also within regions and local areas in a country. This study aims to investigate COVID-19 outcomes (case fatality rate or CFR, incidence rate and hospitalization rate) over time and their correlation with regional healthcare and population factors during different phases of the pandemic across the 17 regions of the Philippines. These outcomes were chosen because they are readily available from government data sources, and are simple to work with. We mark five 100-day time periods of the COVID-19 pandemic in the country. The COVID-19 dataset was based on data maintained by the Department of Health (DOH). Spearman’s rank correlation coefficient analysis was used to examine the link between COVID-19 outcomes region-specific indicators referring to population and access to health care resources. Despite their higher vaccination coverage, regions with greater access to health care resources may still be susceptible to future COVID-19 outbreaks due to their urban and densely populated nature. However, vaccines remain effective in reducing COVID-19 hospitalizations in these regions. Therefore, it is crucial to focus on increasing vaccination coverage in rural, underserved regions and implement targeted outbreak control measures in densely populated areas. © Author(s) 2024.

In response to the exponential surge in Video on Demand (VOD) traffic, numerous research endeavors have concentrated on optimizing and enhancing infrastructure efficiency. In contrast, this paper explores whether users' demand patterns can be shaped to reduce the pressure on infrastructure. Our main idea is to design a mechanism that alters the distribution of user requests to another distribution which is much more cache-efficient, but still remains 'close enough' (in terms of cost) to fulfil individual user's preference. © 2024 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).

From Clicks to Conversations: Evaluating the Effectiveness of Conversational Agents in Statistical Analysis

The rapid proliferation of data science forced different groups of individuals with different backgrounds to adapt to statistical analysis. We hypothesize that conversational agents are better suited for statistical analysis than traditional graphical user interfaces (GUI). In this work, we propose a novel conversational agent, StatZ, for statistical analysis. We evaluate the efficacy of StatZ relative to established statistical software—SPSS, SAS, Stata, and JMP—in terms of accuracy, task completion time, user experience, and user satisfaction. We combined the proposed analysis question from state-of-the-art language models with suggestions from statistical analysis experts and tested with 51 participants from diverse backgrounds. Our experimental design assessed each participant’s ability to perform statistical analysis tasks using traditional statistical analysis tools with GUI and our conversational agent. Results indicate that the proposed conversational agents significantly outperform GUI statistical software in all assessed metrics, including quantitative (task completion time, accuracy, and user experience), and qualitative (user satisfaction) metrics. Our findings underscore the potential of using conversational agents to enhance statistical analysis processes, reducing cognitive load and learning curves and thereby proliferating data analysis capabilities, to individuals with limited knowledge of *** Codes 62-07 Copyright © 2025, The Authors. Information systems play a crucial role in facilitating effective and efficient media sharing by enabling the exchange of information. However, the current technological landscape is plagued by numerous potential attacks that can compromise the security of exchanged information. Examples of such attacks include stealing user data through interception of user-server communication, spoofing, and sniffing. Robust security measures are essential to mitigate the risks of data leakage and ensure data confidentiality during network-based information exchange. This study proposes designing a communication system based on a multi-socket network, employing the elliptic curve cryptography (ECC) encryption algorithm. The system comprises a single server and multiple clients. This paper analyzes the security of ECC from the performance comparison of ECC and RSA when implemented in multi sochet server. This work uses cryptography library implementation using C programming language. The utilization of the ECC encryption algorithm in network transmission ensures a high level of security and data confidentiality during information exchange. Furthermore, the data transmission system implemented with the ECC algorithm exhibits a swift computation time, thereby expediting key processing and message transmission while maintaining a strong level of security. © 2023 IEEE.
