Because of the quantity, complexity and speed measurements of big data, access to the data needed for big data applications becomes ever more challenging for both end-users and IT-experts. access. This has however led to problems of overloading information. While progress has been made in search engines, finding the right information still is a struggle due to the exponential increase in the everyday information provided. The need for Big Data Analytic now powers other aspects of modern society, because they can build new linkages and discoveries that help drive tomorrow's innovation. Data visualization of big data applications is an important tool to interpret and understand immense data, making the technology more enticing to use. Visualization of a search result with faceted search is increasingly popular in search engines. This seeks to allow users to easily and effectively find their way through large document collections. FS strategies presume that correct information is required so that the value, importance, and expense of achieving the requested information is optimized. In this work, we propose a new FS framework for visualizing browsing and refinements of search results to allow users to visually build complex search queries. The proposed FS can also solve the problem of lexical uncertainty in current search engines and give users more interest.

Building energy management systems (BEMSs) perform essential tasks to enhance energy-use performance. BEMSs play an important role in energy savings because it affects energy management related functions needed by a building. An efficiently designed BEMS would affect building energy efficiency and energy-use. There are several key functions each building might perform one or more than a function to contribute to energy-use depending on the purpose of BEMS embedded in that building. Some BEMSs might perform that a function to come up with a semi-optimal level in energy efficiency and energy-use. This review paper presents several function-purposed BEMSs. Monitoring of energy-use, measurement, analysis, estimation and optimization are some examples of functions BEMS performs. This review paper aims to give readers suggestions on which more suitable and adequate design of BEMS is preferable for a type of buildings than other systems to achieve a better energy management. In this review paper several top-tier researches' publishers e.g., Elsevier, IEEE, and ACM have been used from which papers are collected. This paper has considered papers published since 1982 to cover an extensive trend of research studies used for BEMS.

This paper discusses several technical issues and difficulties faced while converting a Gas Turbine Virtual Reality (VR) application to a Mixed Reality (MR) application. Direct conversion from a VR to MR is feasible. However, it is found that several techniques or methods employed in VR are ineffective in MR. This is due to the Head Mounted Device used in the MR application allows users to see the real world while visualising computer-generated image, whereby the same function is not applicable in VR. Among the functions in VR which are not compatible with MR are teleporting and interaction. These issues were discovered during a prototype testing of the MR system. Based on the observation, it is found that in an MR system, the view inside HMD is overcrowded when a virtual background is visible along with the actual background. In addition to that, in an MR system, users prefer to physically walk towards the virtual object rather than teleporting using a controller. The discussion is not only highlighting the problem faced but also the solutions. In general, the objective of this paper is to share the technical issues experienced during the development process. It is expected that this knowledge can be helpful to future researchers or developers.

Communication network topology design problem in a smart grid environment has received considerable attention in recent times, because in this environment, power transmission control data, generated by Phasor Measurement Units (PMUs), needs to be exchanged between Substations (SS) and Controls Centers (CC) in real time. In this paper, we formalize this design problem studied in a previous paper as the Rooted Delay Constrained Minimum Spanning Tree (RDCMST) problem. While other researchers have studied the RDCMST problem in a topological setting, we study it in a geometric setting. We provide a modified version of the well-known Prim's algorithm for construction of a Minimum Spanning Tree of a graph to solve the RDCMST problem. We (i) establish the necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of a solution for the RDCMST problem, (ii) demonstrate that our algorithm may fail to find the optimal solution for some problem instances, (iii) characterize conditions on the input data which will ensure that our algorithm will find the optimal solution, and (iv) demonstrate that under some pathological condition, the ratio between our algorithm and the optimal solution can be arbitrarily large. We provide an Integer Linear Programming formulation for the problem for computation of the optimal solution. We evaluate the performance of our algorithm with real substation location data of Arizona. In our experiments, our algorithm always produced either optimal or near optimal solutions.

Growing population could be one of the main factors which affect the daily increase in road movement . A developing country like Malaysia still requires transport system planning and development. In 2012, nearly 1.5 million daily and public transport trips in Klang Valley represented almost 30% of the daily main public transportation. Development of an expert system could identify problems on bus services and assist to encounter problems raised based on the expert system. Therefore, this study was aimed to develop an expert system for bus service in Klang Valley. In this study five major cities in west Klang Valley were selected, including Puchong, Petaling Jaya, Subang Jaya, Shah Alam and Klang. The Transit Capacity and Quality of Service Manual (TRCPM) was referred as studyguidelines . Three mainphases were involved in the expert system development by using MATLAB, which include analyzing job scope, management of information knowledge and development of prototype. System was named as BUS-QOS and could be used to identify the bus service quality level in specific locations and obtain suggestions from experts to improve the bus service quality of in that area. At the end of the study, validation, verification and evaluation processes should be done to check the output of system in terms of its operation and result. The result of BUS-QOS was verified based on system analysis and manual calculation. It showed that all designated attributes were almost 100% accurate. The output of the system was based on transportation engineering knowledge which could be easily used by users. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Traffic congestion is one of the issues raised as the development and urbanization moving forward. Bus services still considered as an public transport option to move from one location to another. Since 1957, bus services have been a primary selection not just a big cities like Kuala Lumpur and Georgetown as well as small town in like Alor Setar, Kota Bahru and others. As the demand increase year by year, the quality of service is expected to be improved as well. Recently, public transport in small cities in Malaysia also faced a huge competition with E-hailing services such as Grab and MyCar. Therefore, these paper is to determine the service quality of bus performance in Alor Setar, Kedah. These studies were conducted in April 2019. Service quality data have been taken at Terminal Shahab Perdana, Alor Setar. Transit Capacity and Quality of Service Manual (TCRPM) has been stated as a specific guidelines and key indicators to determine the quality service of bus performance in designated area. There were four specific areas would be focused in these studies such as service frequency, hours of service, factors of passenger load, on time performance. Based on the results, it shows that only passenger load factor has classified as A quality of service in these studies. The hours of services and on time performance were classified as Class D while the service frequency was classified as Class F. The overall quality of service in Alor Setar, Kedah is classified as Class D which consider as moderate as there is a lot of issues should be addressed. Some improvement on these three attributes should be made to increase the quality of service. Authorities also could use the outcome of these studies to determine and identifies the significant improvements for bus service on these areas. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

In this article, we present a faceted search with new strategies that reward users with multiple dimensions or filters to scan. This is to allow users to identify the categories that they want and access the required data quicker, but they also contribute to the overall data fee. The cycle will continue but that does not mean that we should (or might) stop trying to improve our knowledge collection, distribution, and management methods. That is why we believe that filtering information overload is an extremely important issue for better decisions. Although there are numerous search engines, most of them cannot always make the search engines accessible details. To obtain information about a certain subject, searchers must perform inquiries. This information overload problem can be solved by exploratory search technologies. It is transparent and has many apps that can enable users to learn important information and increase their knowledge of the mission. The main contribution of this paper is to examine previous exploratory-based research, the technology and existing implementations used, such as faceted search as a method in which filters are built to restrict the search results.

Biodiesel has gained tremendous attention from researchers due to its environmentally friendly and renewable fuel manufactured domestically from vegetable oils or animal fats. Multiple factors, including emission and fuel efficiency, measure the performance of biodiesel. These characteristics make the process of evaluation and benchmarking a multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) problem. This research attempts to survey the literature for multi-criteria decision-making applications on biodiesel. This systematic review was carried out on four scientific databases: PubMed, ScienceDirect, IEEE Xplore, and WoS. The collected articles were summarized and mapped into a coherent taxonomy, while the main challenges, motivations, and recommendations were collected and categorized for better understanding and finding out essential characteristics. The final set of included articles was 33, and they were categorized into six different categories. Most articles (n=15/33) investigated the evaluation and selection of biodiesel alternatives using MCDM. Furthermore, a state-of-art bibliometric analysis is provided. The analysis demonstrates several challenges in this area, such as source selection, optimum fuel blending, and uncertainty. This article is expected to assist future researchers in addressing the current gaps and contribute to advancing this area. © 2024 Elsevier Ltd

The education industry have evolved to meet the expectations of current technological trend. The field of mechanical engineering involves the study, design, development, construction, and testing of tools, engines, and machines. One of the critical equipment in the area of power plant engineering is the turbine, which are used to generate power. Students are taught to understand the drawings of these turbines through books or videos and occasionally visit the power plant site. This approach may not be appealing to the digital natives as they prefer to use technology to touch, feel and see the aspects of the turbine at any given time. The lack of engagement, shrinking attention span and obsession with digital devices amongst the younger generation have caused educators to experiment with various means of teaching techniques in ensuring that knowledge is successfully imparted. Hence, this paper provide results of a pilot study on a usability evaluation conducted on a group of undergraduate students to analyze the usability of a virtual reality (VR) application using the System Usability Scale (SUS) instrument. The study also aims to find out if there are any significant differences among gender and computer gamers in using the VR tool. Results indicate that the VR application requires further enhancement in terms of self-learning and interaction familiarity. © Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2019.
